I got a text to this effect just now from tbe passport service. I know it's a kosher message because I had a message from the same number about my DD's Uk passport application recently. I apparently need a new passport if I want to go to the EU after 31 December 2020.

Firstly, fuck off you cock wombles because I also have an Irish passport so you can stick it up your Brexity arse.

Secondly, do Brexiteers know they have to buy their way into the EU with a new passport.

Thirdly, see Firstly and fuck off.

Bellini - no as far as i know we can't fast track, although I haven't done this for a while as I no longer bother with a U.K. passport for my kids (expensive and not very useful when they have two other pieces of photo ID).

Honestly I understand your exasperation. I'm so over Brexit that I no longer care (helps being on the right side of the channel) but this passport validity thing and the idea of standing in queues at the Eurostar check-in give me the rage. First world problems, I know.

KonTikki · 29/10/2020 16:48

Took me exactly 2 weeks to get a new passport, it arrived yesterday.
Took the photo on my phone and uploaded to the Passport Office website.
Sent old passport to them by post, 2nd class stamp.
No trouble at all, and they updated me by email at every step of the way.
Very easy and simple to do for a straight forward renewal online.
I was pleasantly surprised.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 19:04

Yes, KonTikki , I know. I recently did my daughter's. The Irish one was better for tracking and just as quick. It also didn't require me, as the Uk one does, to send them the other passport I have.
I'll do it, I'll give them the £80 that I need to pay earlier than I need to because of Brexit. And I will still secretly stick two fingers up at Brexiteers. As I live in Brexit Central, they will never know the contempt I hold them in.

They can't make you send the other passport, which is technically the property of another state. The last time I renewed DD's child passport I didn't send them her French one. It didn't occur to me and maybe I didn't read the notes very well ;) but in any case, what they don't know can't hurt them..

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 19:59

Afraid it says in Documents you must send "current passport from another country if you have one"

Hi bellini and congrats on getting your Irish Passport which I hope makes you a much happier bunny. Are you planning on leaving the UK? I hope not because I appreciate your turn of phrase and explicit desciptive language and wish more here spoke like you do.

If you told me to Fuck Off it might make me love you and your Prep Cupboards even more.

Mistigri · 29/10/2020 21:30

Afraid it says in Documents you must send "current passport from another country if you have one"

I know it says that, but it can't insist on you sending something that (a) isn't theirs and (b) they don't know you have Halo

Even if they know you have dual nationality, they wouldn't know if you held a passport or not. Total overreach, and unenforceable.

I don't yet have a French passport but I won't be telling the home office when I do get one ;)

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 21:45

Thing is Mistigri , I want to get that paperwork done before the year end.

HateIsNotGood Feck off my old palGrin

And Hate - I'm not planning to leave this country. I've lived and worked abroad a lot and know how hard it is. Much as I love Ireland, I love this fucked up country too and it will come back to me, as much as Brexit sickens me.

Update: I called to query why they needed my other passport. I was told new legislation to stop people having multiple passports in multiple names. I asked what business it was of theirs what name I used for my Irish passport. No clear answer.

Link to that legislation please Grin
bellinisurge · 02/11/2020 20:23

Don't worry, as soon as I get my passport back I will be reporting it to the Information Commissioner.
Right now, I just want my updated passport. Damage is done. If it's illegal I'll ask them to destroy my data. Won't succeed but I'll make them explain themselves.

ListeningQuietly · 02/11/2020 20:42

Indeed.
I can promise that the country who issue my non UK passport take a very dim view of other governments wanting it Wink

Brefugee · 02/11/2020 21:00

My British passport expired in Feb and I've been worrying about applying for a renewal (not in UK) because of this "requirement" to send in my other passport. Which i absolutely am not going to do (who knows if i may need to use a passport for some reason while the British one is being processed)

So assuming I'm honest and check the "yes" box to the other nationality question, i can just ignore the request to send my other passport? I'm not that fussed about having a British passport (expensive and a faff to get) but if i need to get back to the UK in a hurry it might be an advantage to have one.

doradoo · 03/11/2020 07:33

I thought you did t actually need to send the other passport, just a full colour copy of the it. That's all we had to do with our renewals post dual citizenship.

As an aside, finally heard back on DDs renewal, it was sent yesterday- I applied in August.

bellinisurge · 03/11/2020 07:53

I don't think you can ignore. I'm ridiculously honest and I think had I ticked yes but not sent in my passport it would have delayed things. I did my DD's earlier with same process.
I just wanted to get the shit done.
It really is shitty.

OP posts:
Brefugee · 03/11/2020 08:31

I think I'll ignore it - i don't really need a British Passport but it would be nice to have one.
Currently, btw, the website says not to apply for one unless it's urgent, so I'll wait.

bellinisurge · 03/11/2020 09:09

Mine magically running out because of Brexit makes it urgent- my extra added months from the last one are wiped off because of Brexit.
I do not want to face post 31 December 2020 without all my passports in place.

OP posts:
ListeningQuietly · 03/11/2020 09:33

Bellini
Ask them to show you the link on the .gov.uk website that asks for it
and the legislation backing that up.
The UK Govt has NO RIGHT to hold the passport of another country
tested VERY thoroughly with Jamaican passports and Windrush

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 03/11/2020 09:44

I feel like that is new - when we renewed DS1's passport we definitely didn't send in his other passport - just his old British one...

GiantKitten · 03/11/2020 10:00

I didn’t think it was because of Brexit - just bringing us into line with most (all?) other countries which don’t allow carrying forward of unexpired months?
ListeningQuietly · 03/11/2020 10:02

I suspect GiantKitten is right.
My other passport always runs from date of renewal to date of renewal
regardless of the date on the old one

it always seemed odd that the UK did not

bellinisurge · 03/11/2020 10:23

Fair enough. I suppose I should thank Brexit for prompting me to get an Irish passport. I flirted with the idea years ago when I was living and working abroad but UK being in the EU meant I got support from any EU country in a crisis - I was actually in a couple of crises so it mattered.
Getting my dd on the Foreign Birth Register was definitely prompted by Brexit. And, as the law currently stands, she can do the same for any children she has.

GiantKitten · 03/11/2020 10:42

My entire family (except me Sad) can get Irish passports because MIL was born in Belfast.

DH has his already, & DD2 got on the FBR just in time for her baby to be legacy Irish (a wonderfully helpful Consulate person assisted with that as DD had left it a bit late).

The rest haven’t done it yet but at least we’ve got all the paperwork (2 sets) now. FBR waiting time was 18 months last I heard - any updates?
