With the caveat that no one seems hurt (suggesting God is saying something) the sight of several Trumpsters sinking in a lake seems too symbolic to miss ...

Thanks all who gave advice and inspiration (virus-free kind) concerning my dilemma yesterday. It is much appreciated Smile

Usually the top is deserted at that time in the morning apart from the occasional friendly cat. On the rare appearance of another pedestrian we do tend to the drunken beetle approach, and individuals usually run in the road; we always exchange greetings.

What threw me was the absolute unstoppable force emanating from this particular group and me not knowing what to do or where to go.

I shall definitely be taking a mask or wearing a bandana round my neck for instant application in future!

@SabrinaThwaite

assistance for various businesses

Sounds suspiciously like state aid?

Given the slow burning fuse on the dynamite that has emerged of the UK still being bound by EU state aid rules until a deal is reached, I wonder how that will play out ?
SabrinaThwaite · 06/09/2020 11:39

Scotland had whisky tariffs slapped on it by the US after the WTO ruled that the EU had been unfairly subsidising Airbus, so I’m pretty sure NI would find itself in the same position.

Is the WTO still going ?

Brits, take it from an Aussie: If Tony Abbott is your solution, you've got big problems

By the way, am I alone in finding it "interesting" (Louise might) that the two Sunday Papers the BBC lead with on their front page are both about how the EU are going to cave and how brilliant Brexit is ?

If they had led with one such paper and any other, it would have sense.

DGRossetti · 06/09/2020 11:59

And it seems the grown ups in Scotland are doing a lot of homework.

And to this end Declares that:

  1. The subjection of peoples to alien subjugation, domination and exploitation constitutes a denial of fundamental human rights, is contrary to the Charter of the

The Mail is interesting these days. Their top story - Frost swinging his dick around - top comment is how DC and BJ have betrayed the UK. Then the next 15 or so comments are all "no deal or death!" type.

In other news...

Council of Europe issues media freedom alert over UK government blacklisting of investigative journalists
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/press-freedom-uk-government-council-europe-alert-boris-johnson-priti-patel-a9706741.html

Basically, we are now as bad as Turkey and Russia Shock
Propaganda has been rife recently and it has also been clear that the current government has used lies/misinformation/retention of information (remember the journalists that weren’t invited to N10 press conference?).
But putting it in black and white like this highlights the clear movement of this current government towards a tin pot democracy.

Who would ever have predicted that when the vote for brexit happened? :(:(

In light of the link above, a tweet worth reading too.
It’s about Trump and can easily be applied to what is happening in the UK just right now.

DGR - that's why the SNP announcing that they'll explicitly be campaigning on a platform of Indyref2 in next year's Holyrood elections would/could put BJ in bother with the UN (and the Council of Europe, under whose auspices the ECHR is run) if he continues to refuse to give Scotland the right to hold Indyref2 Shock - not that that would bother him international law is not for the likes of him Angry

After all, since 2014 the SNP/Indy supporting parties have only won a mandate in Scotland in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2015 and 2011 - in other words every election since the Indyref Confused

....
Remember Herman Cain, a 2012 presidential candidate, with his 9-9-9 flat tax proposal ?
Became a big Trumper:

He sat proudly in a Trump rally with no mask to show it was unnecessary
.... caught COVID and died

Bizarrely, his twitter account continues (!) - his family said they will continue using it to support Trump
... why not use their own accounts, since they are actually, um, alive ? Confused

www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/sep/06/uks-chief-brexit-negotiator-has-brass-neck-says-former-may-aide-gavin-barwell-david-frost

Theresa May’s former chief of staff has accused the UK’s chief Brexit negotiator, David Frost, of having a “brass neck” after he said the UK government had “blinked first” in negotiations.

Gavin Barwell, a key member of the former prime minister’s negotiating team, said Boris Johnson’s withdrawal agreement was “95% the work of his predecessors” and a deal had only been secured by conceding to the EU’s demand for some customs checks between Northern Ireland and the rest of Great Britain, which May’s team had not agreed to.

(contd)

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2020 18:27

BJ conceded a "frontstop" for NI, so a worse deal for Unionists

  • and I don't see BJ's "dead body" as he promised

And he also conceded €7 billion from the ECB that the UK would otherwise have been entitled to
and that May's WA kept for the UK

Ellie56 · 06/09/2020 18:35

Bozo the Clown's continued ineptitude makes Theresa May look good.

And at least she didn't stitch up Northern Ireland.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2020 18:44

Reunification is the best longterm strategy for NI Ireland, but needs careful planning
and it should not be accelerated before everyone has got used to the idea
as collateral damage to the Brexit Bollocks

BJ just dumped the Unionists, or fogot about them, but then he's had a lot of practice at forgetting and dumping people

DGRossetti · 06/09/2020 19:12

Reunification is the best longterm strategy for NI Ireland, but needs careful planning and it should not be accelerated before everyone has got used to the idea as collateral damage to the Brexit Bollocks

At the risk of tempting fate, it's hard to see how reunification could lead to a worse situation for NI as things stand.

I feel the biggest challenge for that is in the hands of the Republic. How can they accommodate NI in such a way so to allow those Unionists that have found themselves "Irish" to continue to express their culture ?

Peregrina · 06/09/2020 20:16

How were those people in NI who regarded themselves as Irish accommodated before the Good Friday Agreement?

I really don't see a solution to this one. I do wonder about those British people in NI who voted Leave and then applied for an Irish passport, they must be a bit conflicted, to say the least.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2020 20:51

No, they are not conflicted
Most Brexiters in England too are determined that it will be others paying the price for Brexit, not them.

The DUP MPs frequently advised their constituents to obtain Irish passports; hence many Unionists have done so !

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2020 20:55

Tick tock, No Deal is coming down the track

Any deal would be several hundred pages
and would then have to be translated into all the EU languages,
after which the EP and the heads of government would need weeks to analyse it and look for loopholes or unforeseen consequences,
before they hold debates
and finally votes

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-no-deal-nationalism-irish-foreign-minister-uk-b404487.html

The Independent reported on Sunday that
the European Parliament has drawn a "red line" on letting talks push past October, citing technical and administrative reasons

Have I Got News For You@haveigotnews

As it’s revealed some people are having to drive over 100 miles for a Covid test, one man asks if it’s too late to change his story: 😂

Westminstenders: Run Forrest Run
HateIsNotGood · 06/09/2020 21:32

Tick tock indeed. Much as I would like to agree with BCF that , if it were that simple, I'm sure it would have been implemented before now.

The problems of the situation are not because of the although the bollocks do highlight the existing problems and how intractable they are.

Apparently, Fishing is still one of the Big 3 sticking points.

Just to aid my curiousity, perhaps someone can advise me of the reasons why the UK are unable to sustainably manage their own coastal waters in an environmentally positive way?

Is there another Country, preferably EU, that are so good at this that the UK should really take their advice?

Hope you're all fine in your real lives.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2020 21:43

It hasn't been implemented before now .... because it has to be a longterm strategy
and would need the Catholics to become a clear majority, whereas they are still (only just) a minority

As for fishing ... the political pressures on both sides are all about jobs,
which of course longterm requires sustainability,
but that's not what they are fighting about
