We have a mix of disposable and cloth masks. All of us tend to use disposable masks for prolonged use. We have a variety of cloth ones for popping out to the shops.

I reuse disposable masks several times if Ive only worn them for short periods in a low-risk environment (not much COVID where I live).

Nothing to see here ...

Yoikes - I thought the same about 'This is going to hurt'.

GeistohneGrenzen · 05/09/2020 21:40

I'm a bit of a novice at the mask thing as (at 81) I've been keeping to house and garden except for an ophthalmology appt 20 miles away every six weeks or so. I too have a variety for when needed and would be happy to wear any type any time but for the glasses problem!

Anyway, around half past seven this morning I was walking back along the 'top' from the nearest postbox - fields on one side and high fenced back gardens the other - when I was approached by a group of joggers coming straight towards me along the narrow path. There were about eight of them, all women in their thirties, close together and chatting as they ran (oh to be that fit!) and unstoppably in the 'zone'. All I could do was pause and turn slightly towards the fence as the nearest ones passed me at about six inches... most wished me a cheery good morning and I responded in kind, but was very aware that the next few yards I walked I could be breathing in their expelled air... and none of us were wearing masks Sad

Oh gosh, look at this - there might be something interesting going on here.

Paul Richard Oakden was notified as a Director of The Brexit Party on 14th August 2020.

Companies House info is here

And then there was the former UKIP party chairman going by the name of Paul Oakden who might have drained the UKIP coffers?

www.fortisestveritas.co.uk/ukip-the-lost-cash-financial-irregularities-left-behind-by-former-party-chairman-paul-oakden-the-nec-do-nothing/

I do hope that all those people that gave money to The Brexit Party are kept up to date on these things.

Because with The Brexit Party due to submit accounts on 23rd November it will be interesting to see what’s been going on with all those donations, given that The Brexit Party only has 3 members of The Senedd, no MEPs or MPs, and just 12 local councillors.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/09/2020 22:11

If only some enterprising Guardian journalists might be keeping an eye on The Brexit Party shenanigans ...

SwedishEdith · 05/09/2020 22:13

Looks like Nick Timothy may have made a bit of a tit of himself confusing Zarah Sultana with Ash Sarkar. I wonder why? Hmm

.... Geist My glasses are very big & thick, despite the most modern tech, because of my visual disability

I find the trick is to have the mask firmly moulded around the nose quite high up, so the glasses sit on top of the mask
Then breathe through the nose

Once I got the hang of it, I found it much easier than twice weekly when I wear contact lenses (the 2 most vigorous gym classes) - so I wear plain bike glasses on top when walking to the gym

I found the disposable with the nose wire are easiest to fit with glasses, but I have also got some good washables now.

I always have a mask handy to grab in my bag, in case I come across a crowd or want to go indoors somewhere

This is a problem when buildings are not built, or maintained, to adequate safety standards

www.theguardian.com/money/2020/sep/05/uk-flat-owners-sell-fire-safety-ews1-survey

Thousands of flat owners face months, possibly years, of being unable to sell or remortgage because they cannot get hold of new fire safety paperwork required by banks and building societies.

I’ve had that cheery greeting/thanks off joggers and cyclists thing, Geist - it’s stopped me going out for walks. If any of them is infected, they’re projecting the virus right at you. You just have to hope the fresh air dilutes it.

Peregrina · 06/09/2020 08:43

Today's Sunday Mail says of the EU that "this time we won't blink." How quickly do you think we will?

Similarly, the Express says that we are going to starve them of money from the cheap financial markets. How soon do you think it will be before we find out that the EU have already made provision for this?

prettybird · 06/09/2020 08:56

Dh saw this on his Twitter feed Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 06/09/2020 09:06

Yes, it was said early on that cyclists would be better riding side by side than one behind another due to breathing huffed out air

Are the government in for the most humiliating blink ever, or no deal? Which imbecility will they plump for? It’s like musical bumps with the U.K. economy.
TheABC · 06/09/2020 09:52

I run and I get the dilemma about expelled air/greetings. I have gone for the drunken beetle approach: swerve pedestrians in wide circle and lift a non-breathing mandible as acknowledgement.

borntobequiet · 06/09/2020 09:53

Or pass the parcel with nothing inside after the final unwrapping.

TheABC · 06/09/2020 09:57

The minute I read the Daily Mail announcement about "we won't blink", the countdown timer started in my head. It almost makes me laugh; on one hand, the Government is threatening press freedom, on the other they are clearly running Government policy by headline.

Peregrina · 06/09/2020 10:15

What struck me was the "this time" which quite clearly means that last time we did.

Johnson is wibbling about getting people to go back to the Office to save the jobs in Pret, but from what I have observed, central London branches are mostly staffed by young East Europeans. So if these can't come and Pret can't get the staff, but it's no longer serving a need anyway, then bingo, two problems solved. I don't know if the owners of Pret are Tory chums - if they are then well, tough, you take the rough with the smooth.

Bodoni · 06/09/2020 10:25

Thanks for the drunken beetle approach, ABC - that's thoughtful.

Order in the popcorn for a good dirty fight ...

BJ reportedly already trying to undermine Sunak by leaking about tax rises to the media
So BJ hasn't the time for his day job, but does for fighting (dirty) to keep it

After his massive blunders, corresponding massive fall in BJ popularity among Tory MPs and activists too
(lesson: don't elect your leader for "fun", because being PM is deadly serious)

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/sep/06/johnson-at-bay-starmer-on-the-rise-and-sunak-waiting-in-the-wings

the latest survey for ConservativeHome, the website for party members, shows
Johnson has suffered a dramatic fall in his standing among Tory activists.

In December 2019, shortly after the general election, he topped the net satisfaction rating among cabinet members with a score of plus-92.5%
while Sunak was fourth on plus 78.5%.

Now Johnson has slumped down into the bottom third with a rating of plus 24.6%
and Sunak is way out in front on plus 82.5%

(Belfast Newsletter) Arlene Foster makes clear she will implement the PM’s Brexit ‘betrayal act’ and Irish Sea border she denounced

A reminder that there may be an even worse negotiator than DD, Raab, Frost, Abbott
She had May over a barrel, with the best Brexit deal NI Unionists were going to get

Of course, the biggest mistake was the insanity of the DUP backing Brexit - they wanted a border in Ireland, but have instead got one with GB ....

https://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/politics/arlene-foster-makes-clear-she-will-implement-pms-brexit-betrayal-act-and-irish-sea-border-she-denounced-2962211

Arlene Foster has made clear that she will implement the Brexit deal which she railed against
and has suggested that more money from London and assistance for various businesses could help offset the damage to the Union.

Allegra Stratton is his Comms manager (and is just copying all the Obama style messaging of Sunak working in the office with his signature of his posters/communications). And her husband is James Forsyth, is political editor of the Spectator. But this is all healthy folks, nothing to worry about here about the Establishment setting up yet another Tory leader you didn't vote for.
SabrinaThwaite · 06/09/2020 11:19

assistance for various businesses

Sounds suspiciously like state aid?
