With weirdos set to run No10 and Trump seemingly having started a new war in the Middle East, 2020 already looks set to be a cracking year.

To start off your year, it turns out that chinese curse about interesting times is actually a fallacy...

Happy New Year.

May we make 2030...

Ahhhh but Misti - he sounds British , and went to a school that means we're all meant to bow and scrape in front of him.

Through all of this brexit shit and now this I feel ever more alien. Not helped by the fact that I was subject to anti-immigrant vitriol over Xmas.......it's getting nastier......

Amaretto · 10/01/2020 13:55

I am always Shock at the fact that people have been outraged at the sight of MM putting her hand on her belly but somehow the fact one member of RF is a paedophile/has been heavily involved as a paedophile is brushed under the carpet.
Its like people been outraged at any man who has an affair but again the RF having an affair 'is just normal for them'.
Or the fact journalists have spent months finding as much info about MM family (and some of them are unhinged) and presented it in the same way than J Kyle could have done etc....

Poor members of the RF are there for show and entertainment with no interest on the fefect this has on soe of its members.
If anyone was behaving like this against someone who isnt from the RF (and even if they are rich etc...), they would be crucified.

On another subject, does anyone have an advert for this site running next to this thread?

Once again, Boris was born in New York, both of his parents are British. Meghan's are not, she's an American who married a Prince.

AuldAlliance · 10/01/2020 14:18

Is "Prince" almost a nationality of its own?

Peregrina · 10/01/2020 14:20

Yep, Boris Johnson was born in New York. Sadiq Khan was born in London. Which one is more British?

I'd keep the RF, but much slimmed down and with much less fuss, like the Scandinavian and Dutch RFs.

LouiseCollins28 · 10/01/2020 14:26

"more British" is a somewhat unhelpful way of putting it but basically I see it like this.

Johnson was born in America to parents who are both British, Khan was born in Britain to parents who I believe are both originally from Pakistan.

So my answer is that Khan is British by birth and Johnson is not, and one might say that Johnson is British by background and Khan is not. If you actually want a "winner" my answer would be Khan.

LouiseCollins28 · 10/01/2020 14:37

Agree btw Perigrina slimmed down RF works for me, HM+ Charles/Camilla then William/Catherine/George etc are the only members that are actually necessary, the others should make themselves useful sharpish or become much more private citizens.

Louise Well that's exactely what Harry has been dreaming about for years. And he has always been quite clear about it too, saying becoming the king and all the RF things were a nightmare to him.
Its the media and british people who havent caught up yet. They want 'THEIR' RF doing all the dancing around the way THEY want it. The way the Queen is doing 'because she is properly british, with all the restrain and stiff upper lip necessary and is still living in the 18th century.

I largely agree with that Amaretto I have no problem whatever with Harry, Meghan and their son going to live a private life anywhere, Britain, Canada, USA, wherever they want to be. I would have a problem with them not fulfilling the role they do have, and yet continuing to enjoy all the priveledges that go with it.

I would, for example, have a problem with them expecting to keep their Royal titles and associated entitlements. If private life is what they chose though they should be paying for themselves if they become private citizens.

I also think pressure on the Royals generally is ridiculous and some of the actions of the press pack are appalling, but they aren't private citizens yet.

midwest · 10/01/2020 14:53

@LouiseCollins28 after a fair number of years I've found something that I agree 100% with you.
(I name change a lot so don't expect this to mean anything to anyone else)
But it shows all things are possible.

thecatfromjapan · 10/01/2020 15:06

Have we had the Jamie Wallis MP story yet?

Being reported in Buzzfeed that new Tory MP Jamie Wallis ran a 'Sugar Daddy' website, booking up impoverished young women with paying 'Sugar Daddies'.

Alas, it is not 'woke' to call this pimping. ☹️

Gross.

An downside of getting an unexpected landslide is that all sorts of less than marvellous people become MPs.

ListeningQuietly · 10/01/2020 15:10

Katherine Cambridge knows what her job is and accepted the role in full knowledge.
She seems quite content with her situation.

Harry was always "the spare" and once William had children he was always going to be sidelined
especially after Andrew fucked up the sibling role for the future

so actually if he wants to bugger off to Vancouver for 15 years, let him.

Bloody rude to resign from a job via a Linkedin post rather than telling the boss first though Grin

derxa · 10/01/2020 15:40

This made me smile Dexra, partly because I could see its truth.
Phew! I thought you were going to say I was being misogynistic or some such.
Anyway I hope Meghan, Harry and wee Archie will be happy. That's all anyone decent would wish for them.

With regard to royal inbreeding. At least they don't have haemophilia or the Habsburg jaw.

yolofish · 10/01/2020 15:44

I liked derxa's breeding plan too! I do think H & M have been bloody rude, disrespectful and actually downright stupid about the way they have gone about things though. Why do it like that, when you could have done it an easier way? Temper tantrums and victim tizzy hood IMO.

Grinchly · 10/01/2020 15:56

Just as Diana once warned, these two won't be going quietly either.

Pinching your employer's USP, developing it secretly into your own rival 'global' brand, launching it in a blaze of publicity on social media giving the Board ten minutes' warning - whilst still in their employment - is pretty breath taking.

To then declare on your new website that you intend to still take most of your former salary and perks, including free accommodation, whilst 'collaborating' with your (surely by now) former employer, who are also, actually, family with whom you now have to negotiate a crisis deal - is a whole other level!

Amaretto · 10/01/2020 16:01

I am wondering if they havent tried to resign before and have got nowhere so felt they have no choice ....
Stories about them going away (africa and the like) arent news so surely this is something that has been talked about??

I am very careful about believing whatever the press wants to think (the Queen didnt now, she is furious etc etc). Are the relationhsip between Harry and the Queen so bad that they dont to each other anymore? I though he had a very special place in her heart and she ikes him more than his brother....

mrslaughan · 10/01/2020 16:03

Though I think they had tried to have the discussions yolo? But no one was listening- because it didn't suit them.
I haven't seen any temper tantrums? That is just media hysteria/projection. As for calling it abdication- that's absolutely bullshit - what is he now? 5th in line?
The British want a slim downed royalty - until someone actually takes their own future into their hands.
I have seen a couple who want to take control of their destiny, adults who don't want to be dictated to - by not just family, but remember there's all the courtiers who have to put their own 2cents in. The family have been very clear they will be expected to take a back seat/fade into the background once Granny pops her clogs. But it's like all families- no one wanted to make big changes until Granny was not on the scene.

They were put in an impossible situation - and if you have any gumption you'd want to set your own course.

mrslaughan · 10/01/2020 16:11

@Amaretto I think that's why you saw a dramatic change in language coming out of the palace yesterday ("palace sources") Granny gave them all a kick up the arse and told them to sort it.

I know everyone is a fan of Katherine - but she never had a career, as with her sister it was about marrying well. She is exactly where she wants to be. And that's fine . But MM is a very different kettle of fish. She had a career- had to slog to get there. They are very different people , in actually v different situations.

ListeningQuietly · 10/01/2020 16:15

The only royal gossip I trust is the stuff in Private Eye Grin

But TBH its the rudeness and cake and eat it side
that so matches the behaviour of the Leave Campaign Wink
