With weirdos set to run No10 and Trump seemingly having started a new war in the Middle East, 2020 already looks set to be a cracking year.

To start off your year, it turns out that chinese curse about interesting times is actually a fallacy...

Happy New Year.

May we make 2030...

The NI-Scotland bridge is basically just a flight of fancy promoted by journalists, a bit like the idea of mining minerals on the moon or asteroids, which regularly crops up in the media but which is 100% pure unicorn.

Nonsense pedalled to a credulous public by scientifically illiterate journos and pols.

DGRossetti · 08/01/2020 18:57

Oh look another end run around privileged communications (RIPA killed off solicitor-client privilege 20 years ago).

But Breaking News - Harry and Meghan step back as Senior Royals!!!

Surely this is much more important that potential war in the Middle East, or loss of rights at home? Grin

Mockers2020Vision · 08/01/2020 19:13

And No-Tiara Zara done for speeding on the same strech as her mum before her. Almost like they've been told to get out there and deflect.

Now where's Andy?

TatianaLarina · 08/01/2020 19:32

@Clavinova

This is the short term contingency planning to keep radioisotopes coming into the country over Brexit.

It is not intended as a permanent solution - it’s too expensive.

I know they’re worried about the extra cost, that’s why I mentioned it. A 30% increase in the cost will lead to cuts in services - either of nuclear medicine itself or cutting other services to keep sustain nuclear medicine.

AuldAlliance · 08/01/2020 19:56

Has this been mentioned?

This is the short term contingency planning to keep radioisotopes coming into the country over Brexit.

But you were not aware that all radioisotopes were being imported via airfreight from 21st October - neither was I.

A 30% increase in the cost
"Potentially up to 30% increase in cost" is no more accurate than "up to 30% off."

The BNMS mention their survey in current news (3rd Jan) - they are inviting more replies - I shall have to check back in a few weeks.

BercowsFlamingoFlownSouth · 08/01/2020 20:03

The votes today anyone?

ListeningQuietly · 08/01/2020 20:06

Zara : fair play girl - its a nice bit of road.

Harry and Meghan : very canny. The whole plan has to been to streamline to the direct line and by doing so they kibosh the hangers on from the day the queen dies

and as a side effect kick in the teeth means that there are less senior royals than there are NSA protected Trumps
which is a belter on the post monarchy world stage
well played Harry Wink

TatianaLarina · 08/01/2020 20:12

The last I heard, which was end of September, was to the attempt to run planes EU>U.K. hadn’t worked, or rather the planes ran ok but there was not the infrastructure or on-time lorries to meet the planes to ensure smooth transfer. The government was then told they would have to go back to the drawing board and the only thing that would work would be to secure door to door service, which was not looking likely at that point.

If they have genuinely managed it in that short time, good luck to them, but we only have notification from the link that this is going ahead not whether it has succeeded.

Nor is it sustainable long term as I have said repeatedly.

Up to 30% increase in costs at a time the NHS is on its knees is potentially devastating to the delivery of nuclear medicine in this country, however much you want to downplay it. The longer the situation continues the more damage it will cause.

TatianaLarina · 08/01/2020 20:16

I have zero interest in the Royal family. In fact I would put it in minus figures. It strikes me as a bit of a tabloid own goal to bully out of the country two of the people who sell newspapers for them. I think it’s quite funny.

ListeningQuietly · 08/01/2020 20:30

I am now a total convert to the idea that until the elected head of state is done so reflecting all votes (Proportional representation)
an anachronistic hangover with a conscience is the least worst option.

that and although I think Charles is a wazzock, I do think that William and Kate will carry off the role well - and to the benefit of as many as possible

ContinuityError · 08/01/2020 20:30

I have to agree with mistigri on this .... the munitions in that trench are a definite unknown unknown

The biggest unknown is exactly where the (known) munitions were dumped. From experience I’d find it hard to believe that ships always chugged all the way out to Beaufort’s Dyke when they could just dump stuff over the side wherever was convenient. As British Gas found out when it disturbed phosgene canisters despite routing its pipeline to an area that should have been clear.

*phosphorus (not phosgene), although it’s not known if WW1 munitions might have been disposed of there post 1920.

Bercows Devolution and restoration of Stormont?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-51040786

The British and Irish governments are to work intensively into the night discussing efforts to restore devolution, talks sources say.

Discussions between the parties, Secretary of State Julian Smith and Tánaiste Simon Coveney have been ongoing throughout the day.

It is understood the parties were to be briefed on the text of a draft deal on Wednesday.

Thursday marks three years since the executive collapsed.

Clavinova · 08/01/2020 20:40

I thought I had remembered this:

Dr Buscombe/BNMS told the media in August;

"at least one patient in Scotland had been unable to receive treatment for liver cancer on the planned day during the delivery trial as the radioisotopes had arrived too late."

He told his colleagues in October;

• Practice run in March 2019 worked well.
• Only 1 delayed delivery reported from Glasgow and that came from USA.

Suggests some degree of scaremongering/embellishing to me (to the media) - his presentation to colleagues refers to Boris Johnson's "Unicorn laden uplands" and he has a Brexit cartoon of Theresa May as well for context.
