Is No Deal Brexit going to happen anyway?

So Boris has got his blue scarves minions in place.
He’s going to pass a law this week to stop Brexit being delayed beyond 31st January 2020 and the transition period no longer than 31st December 2020

So given how little Bojo cares for details. We may well crash out with no deal, as the current government won’t bother negotiating any with the EU.

(The turkeys voted for Christmas. Now here comes the stuffing).

Probably. At this stage, he can do what he wants.

Caramel78 · 17/12/2019 12:16

I’d be very surprised if No Deal doesn’t happen. Fasten your seatbelts for the shit show which will ensue

RhinoskinhaveI · 17/12/2019 12:17

I think you could be right

Parker231 · 17/12/2019 12:50

Probably - was always a strong possibility.

ContinuityError · 17/12/2019 12:57

It's wot the people wanted and voted for.

Allegedly.

Womenwotlunch · 17/12/2019 13:02

Yes probably

bellinisurge · 17/12/2019 13:08

Mebee. I don't give much of a fuck because, contrary to what @ContinuityError implies, having this option on the table IS what people voted for.

ContinuityError · 17/12/2019 13:12

@bellinisurge I don't believe that many of the new Tory voters still have much idea what might hit them with a No Deal. Hence the allegedly.

AlexaShutUp · 17/12/2019 13:14

It looks likely that we may crash out, yes. At least we have a year to prepare for the worst.

BrexitMakeItStop · 17/12/2019 13:17

Yes. But everyone voted for it, so they must be looking forward to it. Idiots.

bellinisurge · 17/12/2019 13:22

@ContinuityError , I think they do. I think they are persuaded that "they need us more than we need them" and "it can't get any worse ". I disagree but I think the opposite view to mine is a reasonable and grown up opinion. What Labour were offering was an unattractive continuation of the awfulness we were all going through followed by pipe dream renationalisation.

ContinuityError · 17/12/2019 13:49

@bellinisurge Well I'll politely disagree with you - I think (some) people were suckered in by the "Get Brexit Done" mantra, and think that once the WA is passed it's all sorted. Which is pretty much the message you get from the right wing tabloids.

Doubletrouble99 · 17/12/2019 13:57

What's sorted Continuity is that we are definitely leaving. That's the point. No more remain/leave discussions, that bit will be decided at the end of Jan.

ContinuityError · 17/12/2019 14:02

@Doubletrouble99

But Brexit won’t be “done”, which is the uncomfortable truth that still hasn’t been grasped. Years of wrangling that will still cause uncertainty for business that the Tories have cheerfully brushed under the carpet.

corduroyal · 17/12/2019 14:10

It's all theatrics. Parliament makes all the laws. If it makes one to ban an extension, it can just make another law to allow for an extension. It's utterly stupid and designed to impress voters rather than for practical effect.

No deal will not happen because whoever let it happen would be held responsible for the chaos.

bogginmacaroni · 17/12/2019 14:12

Yeah love how some people on this thread think Leavers don't know what they voted for.

CrissmussMockers · 17/12/2019 14:20

The signs are that BJ is going to shaft the Moggsters and go for a close alignment which can be easily negotiated.

June 30th is the deadline for seeking an extension, and talks do not begin until March.

YappityYapYap · 17/12/2019 14:20

Half of the Brexit voters that voted for it and voted in the conservatives to 'get Brexit done' will be moaning their faces off in time to come with a no deal happening because a) they have no idea what it involves and b) they're idiots. They're really in it for the drama of it all and the myth that we'll be £1 trillion a week better off 😂

AlexaShutUp · 17/12/2019 14:25

Yeah love how some people on this thread think Leavers don't know what they voted for.

I wouldn't presume to say that anyone didn't know what they were voting for, but it's certainly very difficult to understand why people would knowingly vote for something that is highly likely to make themselves and their neighbours significantly worse off. It's much easier to make sense of it if you allow for the possibility that they were deceived into thinking that it would actually make things better.

However, if the leave voters insist that they did genuinely want the shit show that we are about to see, then fair enough, I hope they feel it was worth it.

I'd like to think you were right.

The proper reshuffle at the end of Jan/early Feb will make his intentions a little more clear.

ThePlantsitter · 17/12/2019 14:53

Leavers didn't and don't know what they voted for. As a remainer I didn't know exactly what I was voting against but I knew damn well what I was voting for and you've robbed me of it. Why my saying that should enrage you so much I don't know. You won. Get over it.

mummmy2017 · 17/12/2019 15:02

By not getting on with it, and forcing the stalemate in Parliament, which lead to an Election with this massive majority, I think Remainers have to own what they did.
Have to admit they failed, upset the normal swing voters enough, that they voted Boris into Office with no opposition.

Parker231 · 17/12/2019 15:04

@mummmy2017 - did you vote for Boris and a no deal Brexit in time for Christmas next year?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 17/12/2019 15:07

There is a deal negotiated. What is not yet negotiated is the trade deal. We will leave with or without a trade deal. This is not the histrionic crashing out, it is to prevent the impediment people prolonging the agony for trade
