Well that’s what you get when you make a gobshite like James O’Brien your poster boy.

An awful lot of gloating and crassness

I’m surprised how quiet brexiteers have been on here tbh.
Apart from this thread I’ve not noticed much celebration at all.
If labour had won the site would have drowned in gloatiness.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 13:55

“Apart from this thread I’ve not noticed much celebration at all.”

Exactly, and it’s only especially noticeable here, because we have been a long running continuously active thread throughout the whole process. Did people honestly think, that after near on four years of having our vote fucked over and dismissed as if it were nothing, alongside the continuous barrage of grim insults, that somehow we would just go away and be quiet? Why should we? I seem to recall the rising sea of smugness and sheer delight widely spread across the site, every time the brexit vote took a hit, court cases were fought and the so called peoples vote appeared to be gaining ground. but that’s fine obvs, because they were on the ‘right side’ Hmm.

It would be a veritable tsunami of bloody gloating had the result gone the other way FGS, and it’s wilfully blind and disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

Everyone in this whole shitshow has had ups and everyone has had downs, the common denominator being, that on both sides of that process there have at times been celebrations.

I refuse to be told anymore, how I should feel and how I should react. I have had my fill of it.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 13:58

And I can almost put money on the fact, that their would have been no “supportive group hugs for tories and brexiteers” allowed to flourish on bloody AIBU.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 13:58

There... 🤦🏻‍♀️

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 14:03

Sorry, that should have said leavers, not Brexiteers, I’m not some deep agent for the ERG... BlushGrin

The BBC is finally getting regaining its composure with some aplomb. Star This just in.

Brussels backstop causes stir in Scotland

In Brussels news, a trailer full of sprouts has spilled over a road in Fife.

The vehicle pulling a trailer full of the Christmas dinner vegetable overturned in Queensferry Road in Rosyth this morning.

Police Scotland said it had closed the road and was urging drivers to avoid the area. There are not thought to be any injuries.

A spokesman tweeted: "There's been a bit of a #BrusselSprouts accident at the roundabout at Admiralty Road......Traffic and #Christmas dinners may be affected." Grin

“A spokesman tweeted: "There's been a bit of a #BrusselSprouts accident at the roundabout at Admiralty Road......Traffic and #Christmas dinners may be affected." grin”

I do love a good pun play... 😂

SilverySurfer · 16/12/2019 14:19

I think probably a lot of Leavers on here have had enough, being mocked, called stupid, thick as pig shit was one choice description of me, racist, xenophobic, uneducated, being continually bombarded with questions from Remainers with vast superiority complexes simply so they could tell us how stupid we were, for four long years. Most Leavers now simply don't respond but reflect happily on the fact that we will soon be out of the EU. The wait has been intolerable but the end is nigh.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 14:22

“Most Leavers now simply don't respond but reflect happily on the fact that we will soon be out of the EU. The wait has been intolerable but the end is nigh.”

This!! But apparently now that isn’t ok either, however, breaking news We don’t actually care anymore what they think is or isn’t ok. Grin

MarySidney · 16/12/2019 14:23

Afternoon all.

I hope Boris found time to get a good night's sleep over the weekend. As a cricketer himself, he was probably pleased to see Ben Stokes winning SPOTY.

"Most of all, they didn’t recognise themselves in Corbyn’s depiction of working-class people as having no individual identity, only a collective role as part of the downtrodden masses."

This is not just Corbyn. I'm a historian, and so many (not all) historians do the same. The working classes historically included the skilled, the self educated, the aspirational, those who ran small businesses alongside paid employment, those who were active in their communities through their church or chapel, their trade union, their Working Men's Institute, their football team and so on. In history, you find them in the local newspapers.

Nowadays some of their descendants are the small tradesmen with their white vans and their England flags and you might well find them in their local Wetherspoons. And the Labour party has been failing to listen to them since Gordon Brown dismissed the voter who dared to raise concerns about rapid immigration in her community as a 'bigoted woman'.

hospitalityinspector · 16/12/2019 14:24

Epic Exactly!
This outcome has been hard fought. I can't stop feeling proud of sensible people taking back control at the ballot box.

When we got back from the supermarket yesterday DH said he felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. The long term stress of it all has taken its toll on both sides. Please can we just move forward now.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 14:32

“When we got back from the supermarket yesterday DH said he felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. The long term stress of it all has taken its toll on both sides. Please can we just move forward now.”

I can totally relate to this!

howabout · 16/12/2019 14:34

The sneering predates Gordon Brown. The whole luvvie, cosying up to the filthy rich was what got Blair elected in 97. It's why he and his Govt and their MC / Liberal elite supporters didn't see the issue with destroying the housing market and undercutting wages with welfare.

Anyone minded to think "WC roots" Jess Phillips might be the answer this is for you.

"Decide for yourself what emotion Jess Phillips really felt as it became clear the UK faced 5 more years of Boris Johnson: the guffaws of laughter when she thought she was off camera or the 'I'm devastated' line when she realised she was in fact live on TV"

www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=11&v=KEcu4Hha5Us&feature=emb_logo

You only need the first 30 seconds to get the full effect for those like me who cannot stomach 5 minutes of her.

howabout · 16/12/2019 14:36

Absolutely hospitality

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 14:40

Something I am enjoying, is seeing twitter finally return to a sense of equilibrium, it’s an even spread of general trends now, not just a red sea of momentum guff. 🙌

Now that, really is worth celebrating! 😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 14:45

"Decide for yourself what emotion Jess Phillips really felt as it became clear the UK faced 5 more years of Boris Johnson: the guffaws of laughter when she thought she was off camera or the 'I'm devastated' line when she realised she was in fact live on TV"

Yep, she was “obviously emotional” 😂

Happy #Internationalteaday one and all Brew
“Tea is one of the main stays of civilization in this country, but...the best manner of making it is the subject of violent disputes.” — Orwell.

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 14:51

Agree!

Well if they don't keep policies then might aswell give in, because milions that haven't had anybody speak for them for decades will just go further and further right wing.

FUS01, if you do come back, let's talk about this.

Am I reading you right? That if the Labour Party doesn't keep its current policy direction then it might as well give up because the people who should be their natural voters will get so fed up that no one has actually advocated their cause for decades and, in frustration, will turn to the Conservative Party?

Well, yes, that's something you and I can agree on, because that is exactly what happened. Labour ignored its natural voter base for decades and now it finds that people have voted with their feet. They've left. How long they stay away depends entirely on how the Labour Party responds.

One of two things has to happen now. Either the party has to find new policies to appeal to the electorate, or it has to find a new electorate.

Which do you suppose would be the easier thing to do?

For the benefit of any lurkers, I don't want a choice between Navy Blue Conservative and Pale Blue Labour. That's as arid and as patronising a choice as the one between Remain and BRINO. I want a party with conservative values and a party with social democratic values, each offering a credible political ethos and each challenging the other with logic and reason in order to reach a settlement and a consensus that benefits most of the country and ensures the vulnerable are not overlooked or left behind.

Just going to watch the Jess Phillips video.

The reason why I tried to engage Horses before is because I spotted green shoots of common sense on the Other Thread earlier. Posters were having a constructive discussion when the usual suspects decided to crap on it by spouting their usual insults...only to be told by fellow regulars to pack it in because that sort of thing was part of the problem.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 15:00

“Posters were having a constructive discussion when the usual suspects decided to crap on it by spouting their usual insults...only to be told by fellow regulars to pack it in because that sort of thing was part of the problem.”

Hurrah! 🎉 Except, if only anyone had listened when WE repeatedly tried to point this out? Why is it right when they come to this obvious conclusion ‘all on their own’ but not when we say it? We have been up against that shite the whole way and it was merrily cheered on! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I mean, I’m glad they are there to an extent obvs, but it’s more than a little galling to only see it now that the shoe is on the other foot tbh.

That said, I will fly the 🕊 yet again, if anyone is willing to come and discuss it with us, free of insults, patronising behaviour and prejudices.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 15:03

“For the benefit of any lurkers, I don't want a choice between Navy Blue Conservative and Pale Blue Labour.”

Fair point!

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 15:11

I think, Epic, that some people really have to hit rock bottom before reality dawns. You have been way more patient than most in trying to reason with them and until now, it's all been to no avail.

I did say there were only green shoots, however. They are by no means universal, but where we find them, they are to be encouraged.

I was listening to (bleurgh) Jeremy Vine on the way home from the supermarket. Even Kevin Maguire is beginning to wake up. However, what he relayed from inside the Labour bunker was truly depressing. Rebecca Long-Bailey is the Crown Princess and the might of the machine is gathering behind her. Anyone who thinks RLB is the answer is obviously asking the wrong question - and even Kev, of whom I'm quite fond even though we are diametric opposites, shows awareness of that.

Speaking as a Conservative Party member, I would be delighted if RLB became the new Labour leader.

Speaking as someone who prizes democracy above all else and who desperately wants the safeguard of a functioning Opposition, I'd be distraught.

DuckWillow · 16/12/2019 15:12

Again, I wonder who people will blame for their ills when they can no longer blame the EU.

The proof of it all now will be how well this is managed going forwards. Traditionally Labour areas voted Tory because of Jeremy Corbyn and Brexit. These traditionally Labour areas will still have their problems post Brexit and I think there is going to have to be a sea change in Conservatism to keep those voters once we leave the EU and they realise their lives are just as shit if not worse.

Meanwhile

Some friends who have made their homes and careers here from Europe now live in a country where the PM is on record as saying he doesn’t want them to feel settled. A number of them volunteer with me on a community project giving time freely to people who probably voted Brexit (as over 70% of voters in my town did) because they believe what they’ve been told by Nigel and co about immigration being the root of all evil. At least one has been told by a member of the public they will have to leave once we get Brexit.

My Dad who never wanted to be part of the EU is whooping it up which is great as long as the medication we don’t yet produce doesn’t go into short supply post Brexit. No it can’t be stockpiled and nor can other key items.

My neighbour is delighted...and sharing on FB the “fact” that Muslims have banned Christmas in places ...thank god for Brexit dealing with that nonsense eh?

Another friend thinks Brexit is going to be better for Britain as immigrants are the cause of pressure in public services. Mind you he did receive amazing care from his non-UK born cardiologist last year and also from several east and west European NHS staff as well as those from other places.

So if you’re gloating on this thread just reign it in as everyone including some Brexit voters will discover over the next few years that the EU wasn't the reason their lives are so dire.

Boris has a great deal to achieve if he is going to keep these people on side. I wish him success and luck...he’s going to need it,

The difference between 2017 and 2019 is Labour went from implementing the refendum to basically remain in all but name, they were dead and buried in their "heartland" particulary after many felt left behind ignore with Phoney Tony.

Many Labour MP's in Brexit areas that thought they would never lose quite happy to tell people they knew best and weren't going to do it. Trust me if you were grounded anywhere in the Labour Heartland in the North East it was made very obvious that it was going to happen.
Seats that went and ones with vastly reduced majority voting Tory not because of Policies either, because the Tories didn't really have any.

If you think people that can't get a decent wage, somewhere to live, educated and healed voted for the Tories because of policies then you are in cloud cuckoo land as next door to Jo Swinson.

Benefits have killed this country, but there are 2 types. The demonised type Dole etc. and the entitlements Child Care Child tax Tax Avoidance Measures that no normal people can afford to take advantage of. More that is acceptable. What is even more acceptable is for us to pay benefits to subsidise Profits for some of the richest companies so they can pay less than a living wage.

The country is bust and morally bankrupt same for decades what is there to discuss. Watching the TV after election a youngish woman said always voted conservative and would have again but have a child that is ill, so only changed as she was affected. The same for the rest, until it happens to you.

That all interested in whats free we are at the inevitable end of the cycle which Thatcher started. Look at all the problems and Swinson offered free child care for all.

Beggars Belief.

Record Debt
Record Homelessness
Record Inequality
Record Low Interest Rates
Average Wage - £20K Average House Price - £230K
Productivity in the shitter.

So how many left wing policy have been in place the last 40 years, because Phoney Tony doesn't count. We are not where we are because of left wing policies are we?
