Just popped in to say she was going to lurk now.

thecatfromjapan · 14/12/2019 20:30

I'm already tired of the Corbynista line that Labour lost because of 'Remain Centrists' undermining the message of the Dear Leader.

The Labour Party is doomed. Honestly.

And yet we really do need it.

SwedishEdith · 14/12/2019 20:30

Alsohuman 👍

Stinkyeddie · 14/12/2019 20:32

Unless ths labour party moves to the centre, I agree.

frumpety · 14/12/2019 20:37

It's all going to happen when nobody is watching isn't it ? This is where I am at , Brexit will happen with great fanfare and fandango on the 31st of January.
Except that isn't really Brexit, the real Brexit comes after that point, but everybody or a majority of them will believe that's it, sorted, job's a goodun etc
And that's when we enter the dangerous phase, when peoples appetite for Brexit has well and truly passed, when the bunting has been safely stored away for another Royal wedding or birth. That is when the Squirrel will be well and truly unleashed, when nobody cares anymore, when 'they think its all over .......... it is now' Xmas Sad

the Corbynista line that Labour lost because of 'Remain Centrists' undermining the message of the Dear Leader.

Expect nothing less. It's a self-referential closed system impervious to criticism. It proposes that it is right because it says it is and so it is because it is.

Back in 83, the suggestion was that people who voted Tory would vote Labour if Labour was more left-wing.

I used to hang out with Dave Nellist so I know the argument.

chomalungma · 14/12/2019 20:40

A lot of Labour votes must have stayed at home

I noticed that on the night. Not much of a gain for the Conservatives but a lot less support for Labour.

I assume that the Tories and Labour have noticed that - but aren't talking about it.

What will it take for Labour people to return.....

Stinkyeddie · 14/12/2019 20:42

I fell for the "youthquake" and high turnout reports too.
Made me think a hung parliament was possible - even though that would have been horrendous.

ListeningQuietly · 14/12/2019 20:44

A lot of my Labour friends are delighted that Corbyn is going
they just wish he'd do it RIGHT NOW

Labour are capable of the "interim leader" system
they should use it as soon as the Tory Cabinet is named

  • strong people to face down liars

its also a good opportunity for the leadership candidates to take front bench seats and thus exposure for the next few months
silly me, Labour would never do something so sensible

thecatfromjapan · 14/12/2019 20:56

Are you from Coventry, Mockers?

thecatfromjapan · 14/12/2019 20:58

You know how landed gentry in the Restoration used to keep a hermit in the garden?

That's kind of how Coventry folk thought of Dave.

They were quite fond of him.

DGRossetti · 14/12/2019 21:02

I didn't realise until recently, that the Falklands were the reason Britain had to be nice to Pinochet ...

here's a rabbit hole for history nerds ...

I also didn't realise the RAF had actually flown Nimrod operationally ...

Yaralie · 14/12/2019 21:05

Politics has become extremely polarised, more so since the fraudulent referendum of 2016, but in spite of that the Liberal Democrats increased their share of the vote by 1.2 million votes. Whereas the Labour party lost votes and the Cons only increased their votes by 0.2 million.

Our obscenely unfair electoral system resulted in -

Lib Dems + 1.2 million votes = lose one MP
Conservatives +0.2 million votes = gain 66 MPs

How can anyone call that democratic?

Dusty01 · 14/12/2019 21:07

What would be needed for the UK to change to Proportional representation?

thecatfromjapan · 14/12/2019 21:10

Dusty We would need a Party to stand on a manifesto pledging an end to FPTP. And for that Party to win an unarguable mandate.

It's never going to happen.

DGRossetti · 14/12/2019 21:11

What would be needed for the UK to change to Proportional representation?

A guarantee the Tories will always win.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 14/12/2019 21:12

What would be needed for the UK to change to Proportional representation?

A government with the will to implement it. So not the Tories as they disproportionately benefit from FPTP.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 14/12/2019 21:16

Tatiana

The comment about Marina Wheeler passing as white is really not OK.

The picaninies comment was satirising colonialism (and Tony Blair) but I agree it was stupid.

@frumpety absolutely spot on.

TheABC · 14/12/2019 21:23

stretches legs
Fuck it. People want Brexit done, so let them have it up to the teeth. They had all the facts, all the info and chose to believe a proven liar.

Banging your head against the same wall repeatedly is the definition of madness. It's time to walk away and try something different.

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2019 21:24

I am not sure what Boris Johnson has to say to be 'proved' racist but he most certainly was homophobic (and I think , therefore, still must be)

www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/12/12/boris-johnson-tank-top-bum-boys-homophobic-peter-mandleson-history/

And his comments about Liverpool (often excused as being someone else's; he was just the editor, guv) remain completely inexcusable.
