Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

There was also the other "problem". Those that would have voted for the Brexit Party realised that they vote would have been a wasted vote and so voted for the Conservatives instead in order to get Brexit done.

I have it from the horse's mouth, my Mum.

lonelyplanetmum · 13/12/2019 00:04

There are a few politicians ( and posters) who can't resist gloating. Gove was floaty. The true statesmen and women show grace and good sportsmanship.

Just a reminder that psychologists say that one of the most troublesome traits of narcissism is a tendency to be both a sore loser and a sore winner.

"For example, when they lose in a sports match, they might try to humiliate the referee. When they win, they might gloat excessively or act abusively to the losing party."

Sconio123 · 13/12/2019 00:05

To be fair many of the poorest most vulnerable who use food banks probably don't even vote....

Personally I think that's no excuse. Harsh as it sounds, if they can get to a food bank, they can get to a polling station.

Yes, very harsh but frankly I'm very fucking angry. Not just at the red tories, but also the cant-be-arsed-to-vote

What a clusterfuck.

lonelyplanetmum · 13/12/2019 00:05
  • Gloaty not floaty
chomalungma · 13/12/2019 00:05

It takes a long time for other constituencies to count, doesn't it...

tobee · 13/12/2019 00:05

colouring you are wasting your breath I'm afraid.

I was standing talking to a Conservative colleague of mine a couple of years ago. We both saw a man being run over and killed just in front of us. She was entirely unaffected by it. And amazed that I was. She seemed to see it as a weakness. This is many Tory voters mentality.

CendrillonSings · 13/12/2019 00:06

Can you imagine the gloating on here if we were looking at a Labour-SNP coalition and a 2nd Referendum? What hypocrisy!

Narcissistic personality disorder — one of several types of personality disorders — is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Colouring Flowers so sorry about the lack of help for your son

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/12/2019 00:08

Sunderland Central.
Labour Squeaked through.
The right wing vote split the right wing vote, otherwise the Tory guy would have won.

chomalungma · 13/12/2019 00:08

Those are mostly Northern towns...do they count quicker up there?

tobee · 13/12/2019 00:09

Cendrillon don't you see the difference between "gloating on here" and gloating on the Brexit Arms thread? Are you so stupid? Disappointed.

Stayinyourfridge · 13/12/2019 00:09

One of my colleagues grew up in a Derbyshire mining village. He has awful memories of the miners’ strike as a child (going hungry / living in terrible poverty) and has spoken about the hatred at the time for the Tories and Thatcher.

Today we were speaking and he told me how he still has many relatives in the area who feel abandoned.

I said but surely they won’t vote Tory and he looked at me and said of course they will.
They feel Labour have become too Urban, politically correct and pro immigration. Wrongly or rightly his relatives blame immigration for their current economic situation.

He told me they want change and want radical change. They feel that is the only way their lives will improve. Hence the vote for the conservatives and Brexit.

The causes I think are Labour’s move away from their working class heartlands and an underestimation by the left of the power of a right wing press who has demonized for decades immigrants and the EU blaming them for the ills of the land.

Sadly it is the most deprived who will suffer the most. I hope I am proved wrong but I highly doubt it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/12/2019 00:09

Sorry, the Brexit party split the right wing vote.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 00:09

Ian Murray MP ‘Every door I knocked on, and my team and I spoke to 11,000 people, mentioned Corbyn. Not Brexit but Corbyn.’ Hopefully Labour will change course.

Deadsouls · 13/12/2019 00:09

Motheroffourdragons
I'm trying to get my head around it and understand but struggling. They must really really really believe in Brexit and that it's a really good thing. What would make them believe in the idea of Brexit so much?
Thinking out loud more than anything.

RedDiamond · 13/12/2019 00:10

Are you for real? OMG. I hope not.

CendrillonSings · 13/12/2019 00:10

Are you so stupid?

You're the one who supports Corbyn, so you tell me.

tobee · 13/12/2019 00:10

Many voters I said . Prove to me I'm wrong about that!

SheOfManyNames · 13/12/2019 00:11

My grandparents come from a mining town up North. They would spin in their graves if the town they were born in went blue.
The Tories give half a fuck about London and none about anywhere else.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 00:11

Tory were only up 2% in Sunderland Central.

BXP took most of Labour votes

SheOfManyNames · 13/12/2019 00:11

Farage may regret not standing down candidates in some of these northern leave strongholds.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 13/12/2019 00:12

I really think this is much more that Corbyn lost than that Boris won. People just won't vote for such an extremist.
