Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

I'm off to bed.

RedDiamond · 12/12/2019 23:52

@CendrillonSings Abosbloodylutely!!!! Grin

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2019 23:52

People say it was about Brexit.

But I pose you another question

Robert Peston @Peston
Here is the story. Labour will probably win seats in the richest parts of London, but lose seats in the north and midlands which they've held for years. Brexit has broken Labour

Question: Who do Labour stand for?

Its not simply an issue about Brexit. Its something deeper.

Thatcher had a similar majority in 1984. It's didn't go at all well for her. The public marches were massive and it led to her stepping down.

Do you know any history? It was 1983, the last time Labour ran on a far left manifesto, and she left office 7 years later, in November 1990!

tobee · 12/12/2019 23:54

Well, as I say, Cendrillon, enjoy him and his party and your work there.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 12/12/2019 23:55

What do Labour stand for? Kids in hospital beds not hospital floors....

Katharinblum · 12/12/2019 23:55

To be fair many of the poorest most vulnerable who use food banks probably don't even vote....

DrBlackbird · 12/12/2019 23:56

You know cendrillion you are absolutely predictable. Knew, that of all the Brexiteer arms, it would be you, not being able to resist coming here to smugly gloat. Ok you've had your fun. Now go away and go back to the pub to celebrate your joy in seeing the mini Trump elected.

RedDiamond · 12/12/2019 23:56

@RedToothBrush It IS about Brexit. The North want it, London don't. This Election IS just about Brexit. The people have voted and we can see the results.

ColonelCathcart · 12/12/2019 23:56

I’m in Blyth Valley. Tbh it doesn’t surprise me that it’s gone blue.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/12/2019 23:57

Genuinely curious as to, if Traditionally Labour voters vote Tory.
What do they expect to gain?
I understand that they’ll « get Brexit done»
How will leaving Europe benefit them?

A tiny silver lining is that exit poll has Richmond Park 99%+ getting shot of Tory Zac Goldsmith.

Would also like to say to Cendrillon that I'm so glad I don't actually know you.

boatyardblues · 12/12/2019 23:58

Thought it had gone suspiciously quiet on the other thread.

It’s days like this I wish MN had a ‘hide posts’ option for specific posters.

Predictions site says my Lab MP is on track to hold the seat.

SheOfManyNames · 12/12/2019 23:59

CurlyWurlyTwirly it won't benefit them. But they get what they voted for. Which is democracy apparently.

CendrillonSings · 12/12/2019 23:59

DrBlackbird

Oh, I think I'll post exactly as I please, thank you very much. Given that I was the single most accurate poster on these threads about the outcome of this election, I think I've earned it.

Curly they don't have to worry about an invasion of Turks... that's what they were told in 2016.

SheOfManyNames · 12/12/2019 23:59

all the youthquake photos of queues of young people I saw where from London.

tobee · 13/12/2019 00:00

Curly they've fallen for the idea that "it's just this once" not thinking that the Tory government for 5 years will be terminal for the NHS and public services. Not forgetting the economy.

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2019 00:00

This is sourced from Lord Ashcroft polls.

James Morris @JamesDMorris
If the Corbynite narrative was right, Brexit would be the big concern about Labour among Lab Leave voters.

Instead their biggest concern was Jeremy Corbyn, then spending. Brexit 3rd.

I do have to say, everyone I have spoken to this week has said Corbyn, Tax then Brexit as their biggest concern.

This absoluetely was about the remain vote being split, but Corbyn prevented more widespread tactical voting too

I think we will find that many seats will be close and those crucial few votes which relate to Corbyn will be the thing that tip the balance in those seats and give the Tories the extra seats as a result.

Its those few unsure voters that swing the balance of power. We saw this at the ref.

We don’t know the outcome yet.

colouringinpro · 13/12/2019 00:02

Cendrillion the underfunding of CAMHS And NHS means that my amazing son, who's experienced more Shit (trauma) in his lifetime than anyone should face, is already being totally failed. He's smart, funny, creative, emotionally intelligent. But as a rest of all the trauma and totally inadequate NHS response, he's frequently paralysed from the waist down. Recently had no use of his right arm meaning he can't get about on crutches or wheelchair and for three weeks couldn't speak. In many other European countries with a functional social and health service both him and his family would have some support or help.

WE HAVE NONE.

So...is it correct to assume that Blythe Vallety, as an example, swung to Tory because of the 'Get Brexit Done' message?
