Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

This isn't just about leaving the EU. It's about the vile, divisive xenophobia that came with brexit. That I will never accept. You can accept democracy and still fight against injustices.

frumpety · 13/12/2019 07:44

And now five years without having the constant stress of elections - wonderful!

I wouldn't be so confident about the 5 years bit Cendrillon Going to be an interesting five years for the Conservatives though if you are right, they may almost get Brexit done in that time frame Wink

CendrillonSings · 13/12/2019 07:44

"A new dawn has broken, has it not?" Smile

MockersFactCheckMN · 13/12/2019 07:44

Worse than 1983, with the most confusing suicide note in history. Useless Fib-Dems properly decapitated. ChangeyTigers now extinct. At last some decent NI MPs, and Nessie is safe from Ruth's Arse, but only just.

Peter Bottomley is the new father of the house, Skinner is skinned. No interesting Re-treads, but the SNP Antisemite gets in and can expect the usual kid-glive treatment that morally bankrupt party reserves for its liars and crooks.

The essntial truths remain the same: The Right are Evil. The Left are Stupid. And speaking of Stupid, Wales swings Tory and can watch those Airbus contracts fly away.

Radio 3 in the morning is glorious. It's the End of the Wold as we know it. I feel fine.

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 07:44

For anyone staying in the Uk, i recommend getting private health insurance, if you can afford it

I am lucky enough to have one through work but what if I lose my job?

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 07:45

The resistance begins

You might want to tell that to the opposition, you know, the actual people who could have resisted this situation.

bellinisurge · 13/12/2019 07:45

The systematic calling people cnts and murderers which went on on here last night as the results started to come in is the same mindset as the gloating you object to. What would you have said if the result had gone the other way. What would you have done if people called you that.

DippyAvocado · 13/12/2019 07:45

Do we know how many first time Tory MPs were elected? I'm now worrying about all the news stories before the election that candidates were only being chosen if they were in favour of a no-deal Brexit. I think there were former UKIP candidates etc standing for the Conservatives.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 07:46

Bear you are right.

The lies won the day. People want normality.

They think a vote for Cons will give them that. They think Brexit will be over end Jan.

They have been lied too - but let's hope the majority let's him get other things done too .

I'm actually not too affected. We are healthy, we both work and have money in the back.

I will reevaluate our spending and money that would previously have been given to good causes will now be kept to ensure we have enough of a buffer.

Rumboogie · 13/12/2019 07:46

@CendrillonSings

I second that!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 13/12/2019 07:47

The Conservatives haven't had a clear mandate for nine years Frumptey, it's been Brexit or hung parliaments for the last decade.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:47

After 1987 and 1992, Labour and LDems kept opposing the Tory policies until Blair eventually won in 1997

After 1997, the Tories didn't just shut up and suck it all up for the next 13 years

Winning a GE doesn't silence the Opposition, doesn't make them give up and abandon their beliefs
doesn't stop them fighting

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 07:47

Erm, the People's Republic of China. The People's Republic of North Korea.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 07:48

And thankfully we as a family have private healthcare

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 07:50

Ventured onto the DM website.
Dear God!
It is vile and a little scary...
Apparently our own PM is telling us to 'put a sock in it'...

Winning a GE doesn't silence the Opposition, doesn't make them give up and abandon their beliefs doesn't stop them fighting

Except this situation is entirely the result of the fact they never started fighting and people didn’t have a clear view of what their beliefs were or are.

Is the anyone who believes Corbyn shouldn’t resign today?

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:51

Grass roots resistance is often more effective and usually bolder than the conventional party tactics

atm, I wouldn't expect much useful from Labour or LDem MPs for months
So unless we want to give the Tories a free rein, it's up to the grass roots

There's one.

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 07:52

There’s one

Corbyn 😂

MockersFactCheckMN · 13/12/2019 07:54

Sounds like he thinks he has another four years before gracefully handing over to the towering statesperson Wrong-Daily

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 07:55

Sounds like he thinks he has another four years before gracefully handing over to the towering statesperson Wrong-Daily

That was my interpretation of it too - what a deluded fool

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:56

re comment above about Wales:

AIrbus wings are probably the safest export we have to the EU, because just about everything else they can get from elsewhere in the EU
Not those wings

China have offered to replace the UK, but well, letting in China is a big step
German aerospace say they can build up capacity, but that takes years

Also, wings only have to be exported occasionally, so the transport is arranged well in advance to avoid holdups.

TheElementsSong · 13/12/2019 07:59

Is the anyone who believes Corbyn shouldn’t resign today?

Well, since I've always said he's at best a useless courgette, you're not going to find me disagreeing with you on this.

(Oh, and thanks @tobee Grin).
