Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

OK, hairy So you think that Blair is responsible
He is the darling of those Labour rightwingers and Tories who keep saying Labour will only win with a Blair Mk II

You think he is the problem, not the solution ?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/12/2019 07:21

"The People's Government" - UGH. I am apparently not a Person today.
We've not been people since the referendum

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 07:21

The amount of gloating and actual hatred on the other side worries me more than anything.
Where will this stop?

BlackeyedSusan · 13/12/2019 07:21

For the first time ever in a GE, my vote actually counted in a very narrow majority seat.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:23

The talk since the ref of "the People's" this, that & their willy too
reminiscent of the old Soviet bloc days

Not so surprising with all that Russian money going to the Tories

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 07:23

The People's Government

Name one country that has 'People' in its name that is a libral democracy...

Random18 · 13/12/2019 07:27

He just can't help himself - sly dog about Corbyn.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 07:27

*dig

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 07:29

See Gove and Johnson are both revising for their GCSE with all that alliteration.

Isn't it normal to say something nice about the Oppo?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/12/2019 07:29

ok folk. Self care today. And this weekend really. It is a massive blow and times are going to get even harder. There's no doubt about that. Many of us will be exhausted, upset, anxious.

Treat yourself like you would treat a friend who felt like that. Be kind to yourself. Drink tea, have something sweet to eat. Turn off the news for a while and watch something silly. Take a break for a little bit.

You need to do this for your own mental health. You also need to do this because your country is going to need you to fight back like you never have fought before. If you are depleted you cannot do that.

Flowers

And for those who are happy the Tories have won: don't be a dick to others. It's not nice.

What is it about Brexit, specifically Brexit, that appeals?

Partly the appeal of saying NO to something I think. That's very powerful.

TreesSandSea · 13/12/2019 07:33

Thanks OYBBK. That is exactly what I needed. Cuddling the kids and have switched to CBeebies. Going to look after them and us in the first instance.

TiddleTaddleTat · 13/12/2019 07:34

Nipped to bed at 4.30 and just up again

Glad to see Tories didn't win quite as many seats as exit poll predicted. Pleased to see my seat was a Labour hold!

TreesSandSea · 13/12/2019 07:34

And signing out. Going to take a break from SM.

Stinkyeddie · 13/12/2019 07:34

Do we think nigel farage will just fuck off now?

Once we leave he and his meps are jobless?

One positive?

Delighted to see zac goldsmith, nigel dodds and jo swimson lose their seats.

tobee · 13/12/2019 07:35

Still haven't kipped yet!

Love your comments upthread @TheElementsSong

CendrillonSings · 13/12/2019 07:36

It's a bloody fantastic result: Boris close to Thatcher's 1987 level, and Corbyn managing to win even fewer seats than Michael Foot did in 1983.

It was like magic. Apart from a half-dozen close misses, it was pretty much perfect. And now five years without having the constant stress of elections - wonderful!

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 07:39

The amount of gloating and actual hatred on the other side worries me more than anything.
Where will this stop?

It stops when people accept that this was a landslide victory and is what the majority of people want.

When they stop moaning about the Tories incessantly and acknowledge that Labour didn’t provide a viable alternative

When they accept the fact that Labour threw this away and their supporters only have themselves to blame for accepting such a shower of shite from their own party.

When people realise we are leaving the EU, however dreadful that is going to be.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:40

mother For anyone staying in the Uk, i recommend getting private health insurance, if you can afford it
If you wait until problems happen, they then become excluded conditions

I learned this back in the 1980s - when the Tories also ran down the NHS -
when I had to pay many thousands for eye, knee and foot ops so my mum didn't have to wait 2 years in pain and disability
She was uninsurable, but I was young enough to take out a policy

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:42

So bend over and shut up
Nope

The resistance begins

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 07:42

I am alarmed : looking at the map, most areas with hefty Asian populations are still Labour.

The Asian population is scared and worried. Let's not pretend Islamophobia isn't a real concern.

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 07:42

And now five years without having the constant stress of elections

It'll be a different kind of stress. Perhaps not for you, but for many families that are just about managing.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 07:43

For BJ:

Every bomb you make
Every job you take
Every heart you break
Every Irish wake
I’ll be watching you

Every wall you build
Everyone you’ve killed
Every grave you fill
All the blood you spill

Ohhhh can’t you see
You belong to me
There’ll be a bill to pay
On that judgement day

For every empty plate
Every word of hate
Those who subjugate
Those who violate
I’ll b watching you

Oh can’t you see
You belong to me
There’ll be a bill to pay
On that judgement day

For every empty plate
Every word of hate
Those who subjugate
Those who violate
I’ll be watching you

Those who subjugate
Those who violate
I’ll be watching you
