Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

Very well put @Sostenueto.

TheMustressMhor · 13/12/2019 05:35

Nobody is insulting voters on this thread other than yourself, Bovary.

Read back what is actually written.

prettybird · 13/12/2019 05:35

Still 3 probables and one possible to go TheMustressMhor so they might still make 50 Grin

I think 49 is more realistic though and think of poor Nessie Wink

Alsohuman · 13/12/2019 05:36

Why are you engaging with them? Ignore them and they’ll piss off.

BovaryX · 13/12/2019 05:37

Read back what is actually written.

Cite where I have insulted voters. Quote my words

TheMustressMhor · 13/12/2019 05:37

There's nae monster in that loch, hen.

prettybird · 13/12/2019 05:37

I agree Alsohuman Smile

tobee · 13/12/2019 05:38

Well they probably won't though Also. Coz they haven't got anything else to do in their sad little lives apparently. Or, apparently, any friends to celebrate with.

tobee · 13/12/2019 05:39

No one said you've insulted voters Bovary. You've insulted us.

prettybird · 13/12/2019 05:39

Mmmmm, square sausage..... Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 05:39

"Sorry to see Dennis Skinner lose his seat."

That's part of Labour's problem - they can't assemble a set of policies & politicians that their different groups can all accept, even grudgingly

The moderates / rightwing Labour who voted Tory said they couldn't vote for hard left Labour
while some other former Labour voters regret losing a hard left Labour MP

For some, it is that Labour is no longer wc or no longer Northern

  • but the wc has shrunk dramatically since the 1945 Labour govt
There are no longer enough of them to win GEs
GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/12/2019 05:39

Coming on a forum to gloat when people have genuine fears and concerns isn't a good look. I'll certainly judge people like that.

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 05:40

What do you see as the key difference 2017 / 2019 GEs ?

Or all those months when Remainer MPs blocked every attempt at any kind of Brexit ?

Corbyn, dim as he is, didn't change

The game playing by remainer MPs & by Corbyn generally, definitely

That Corbyn is such a foul person with questionable values, definitely

That Corbyn believed his own hype, definitely

That the anti-Brexit, London-centric bigwigs in Labour took their working class voters for granted for so long, definitely

That Labour blatantly strained every sinew to subvert Brexit, abso-fucking-lutely

SwedishEdith · 13/12/2019 05:40

tom brake lost by 700 votes

Lots of these seats seem very close and will be vulnerable.

sovielverloren · 13/12/2019 05:40

BCF
< Ruth Davidson stops swigging the Scotch and lights another fag > Grin

I went to bed straight after the exit poll, slept badly and have been lurking since 3.30am and this comment made my night! We might be in despair but need to keep our sense of humour.

tabulahrasa · 13/12/2019 05:41

@TheMustressMhor

Argyll and Bute are usually nowish or a bit later... it’s both rural and covers a large area.

It’s where I’m from, though I don’t live there anymore Smile

BovaryX · 13/12/2019 05:42

That the anti-Brexit, London-centric bigwigs in Labour took their working class voters for granted for so long, definitely

Absolutely. The imperious sense of entitlement to voters they regard with visceral contempt has been repaid.

CendrillonSings · 13/12/2019 05:42

Portillo moments of the night: Swinson, Pidcock, Skinner, the entire Corbyn Cult... Grin

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/12/2019 05:42

Results round our way went as expected, except we did keep our labour mp just. Labour didn't cut through at all in the other two constituencies which wasn't a surprise towards the middle of this week as people were strongly coming out as anti another vote. All areas being different of course, but the message we were getting was do it or don't do it, just don't put us through another referendum.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 05:42

So Labour lost because of backing Remain

On a 52:48 vote, should both main parties really have only supported the 52% ?

prettybird · 13/12/2019 05:42

Difference between the usual time for elections and a winter election is that normally by now it's getting light again after staying up to watch the results! Shock

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2019 05:42

John Burn-Murdoch @jburnmurdoch
K we now have a new leader for strongest correlation, and I think this is narratively significant:

The share of workers in low-skilled jobs was a bigger predictor of swing than either Brexit vote or graduates.

Suggests this was more working class revolt than Brexit election.

Hmmm... not unsurprised.

I'm not sure it will be armageddon but certainly a decline. I can't see how it will improve quality of life for the population. The thing I'm most disappointed about is that the uk very nearly could have taken the opportunity to illustrate to the world a path away from fossil fuel dependence, as they led to world to it. I expect now that the next ten years will be dominated by Brexit negotiations and Scotland / northern Irieland leaving the union. I hope the EU 27 remain united and peaceful 😔

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 05:44

Right, so the traditional Labour voters want Londoners and the mc to fuck off and vote Tory

That's a good plan for the next GE

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/12/2019 05:45

Yes my solidarity is with ireland, scotland, EU27. Good luck England, you'll need it.
