Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

Workington Man & Woman have spoken!

Held by Labour since 1918, now Conservative.

DeRigueurMortis · 13/12/2019 01:24

Workington - Conservative

Hazardexhausted · 13/12/2019 01:25

Apile - i tell him that he won't bloody listen. But specialists are a problem. Also travel in general is a problem because he's not allowed to fly. I really must accept we're stuck here 😂

Denial is so nice though..

Goodness that's damning

TheMustressMhor · 13/12/2019 01:26

Recommend BBC Parliament.

DippyAvocado · 13/12/2019 01:26

Workington's new Tory MP apparently stood for UKIP in a previous election.

Britain Elects forecasts that IDS will hold Chingford and Woodford Green with a reduced majority. Are there going to be any silver linings at all tonight?

Darlington - Tory gain

wherearemychickens · 13/12/2019 01:30

Oh god this is depressing.

chomalungma · 13/12/2019 01:31

It will be interesting to see some Lib Dem / Cons seats and see what happens then.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 01:31

I’m not sure Labour will be fine next time depends on the leader and other factors but this time Corbyn was the wrong opponent.

TiddleTaddleTat · 13/12/2019 01:31

The words 'bloodbath for labour' are now coming out on Sky.
Wondering whether it's time for me to call it a night. Was hoping to see some key seats being called but so far not seeing much reward for watching

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2019 01:32

Remember the left behind narrative of the trump vote. But in reality the poorest voted in huge numbers for the democrats. It was the economic group above that that believed in the idea of the undeserving poor. They didn't mind economic pain as long as those below them had more and they got one up on the 'patronising' middle classes who they felt looking down their noses at them. They didn't mind the upper classes as they rarely had contact with them, but had the middle classes who judged them.

But trump also needed the richer affluent professional types who wanted low taxation.

Sound familiar?

Well it's not depressing if you support the SNP or are a Tory.

Wrt the SNP they've had a good campaign and Nicola has been imho the most credible and standout leader of this election (I'm not a Scot nor reside in Scotland).

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/12/2019 01:35

First SNP gain from Labour - Rutherglen & Hamilton West.

TheMustressMhor · 13/12/2019 01:36

And the Tory vote in Rutherglen is down.

First bit of good news all night for me.

tabulahrasa · 13/12/2019 01:38

“Well it's not depressing if you support the SNP”

Well it’s not great, a large Tory majority means much less chance of a referendum than any other result really...
