Keeping this short. This is the Brexit fall out thread.

The one where we might get another glimpse of what Brexit means.

I'll post an election special thread shortly with links to various times and important seats (I wont get it done before the other thread fills so this is also a stop gap but please try and use the election special thread for today's events instead of Westminstenders when it goes live)

The way the Remainers and soft leavers haven't been able to find consensus is a big part of the problem here.

Thinking about this - I have to disagree. It's primarily a failure of Government leadership. Cameron should not have promised a referendum to resolve differences within his party, nor made promises about implementing the result. He should at least have said that he would ask Parliament to implement the result. He then fucked off as fast as he could. May couldn't wait to realise her ambition of becoming PM and so appeased the ERG. The ERG will not be appeased and certainly not by a grammar school girl. So then Johnson gets in; is a lazy oaf who doesn't master detail so doesn't know what he is signing up to.

Admittedly if Remainers and soft leavers had been able to find more of a consensus, they might have been able to give an incompetent Government more of a steer. Might, because this has been a particularly tin eared Government. This is where Corbyn's fence sitting came into play - what did he stand for? When he finally got off the fence, it was three years too late.

Very much like Nazi Germany, where opportunities were missed and missed again, until it was too late, and then events took their own course.

Parallels with Nazi Germany always make me wonder what the worst case scenario actually is.

There is a particularly nasty Katie Hopkins tweet doing the rounds atm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/12/2019 08:31

That one was a horrific one in a string of vile tweets and retweets.

Triglesoffy · 14/12/2019 08:55

Can’t she be reported for a hate crime or something? The GF.

KenDodd · 14/12/2019 09:34

Not on Twitter, what did KH say?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/12/2019 09:50

I refuse to share her words. But you don't need to be on twitter to see tweets.

Triglesoffy · 14/12/2019 11:41

The only charitable thing to say is that she has finally gone mad, sniffed a can of glue and is completely bladdered. Still no excuse though.

MockersFactCheckMN · 14/12/2019 13:30

This was a win for the Vote Leave team and their three-word slogans. That suggests a more divergent and less aligned trade deal, and that will need more time.

The extension needs to be asked for in July, and the talks don't begin until March. Since BJ has his majority, he can safely go for this with his usual brazen hypocrisy, don't you just love him for it?

Alternatively, if no extension, then we are back to No Deal, with all the disadvantages of No Deal having already paid over the settlement.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/12/2019 17:14

afaik, the exit bill will be paid in installments, just as we would have continued to pay as a member

DaydreamingDay · 15/12/2019 22:09

KH made a whole thing about children being named after countries and how they were tacky as hell....when her daughter was called India. That woman is a troll.
