Keeping this short. This is the Brexit fall out thread.

The one where we might get another glimpse of what Brexit means.

I'll post an election special thread shortly with links to various times and important seats (I wont get it done before the other thread fills so this is also a stop gap but please try and use the election special thread for today's events instead of Westminstenders when it goes live)

Peter Foster@pmdfoster

Key point in @DavidTinline on WTO - which will apply at so many levels post #brexit where raw power dynamics are at play.

U.K. “more liable to being pushed around; less able to do the pushing”. /1

Britain must fight to fix the WTO before it's too late
www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2019/12/11/britain-must-fight-fix-wto-late/

And before you accuse me of doomsterism/being defeatist it’s already happening.

Was discussing historic inequity of U.K. fishing quotas under CFP with EU dip..& U.K desire to rebalance these after #brexit

Shoots back:
“But it’s not about equity. It’s about a negotiation.”2/2

Just off to vote. DW voting for first time - such a shame that her vote will mean nothing in this hugely safe Tory seat (majority greater than all other parties together!). Proxy vote for DS, insists on Labour (such a well brought up child).

Tactical voting sites suggest LD, for what it's worth. Will have to hold my nose, I suppose.

Thanks to Red and all you wonderful posters on here. You've been my lifeline for the past 4 years, showing me that not everyone is as selfish as most of the people I know, who tut and shake their heads when I tell them about our local foodbank (What, a foodbank? Here in affluent Surrey?), then go ahead and vote Tory anyway Angry.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/12/2019 11:40

pmk.

Thanks Red and all the regulars

bookbook · 12/12/2019 11:51

Just got back from voting here ( East Yorkshire)
It is raining , and very cold , and in one of the safest Conservative seats . For the first time I can ever remember , there was a queue to get in the polling station of about 50 people .

One can but hope , but suspect its the older ones coming out before the heavier rain due this afternoon .

derxa · 12/12/2019 11:58

pmk

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 12/12/2019 12:05

Could someone tell me what PMK means?

Alsohuman · 12/12/2019 12:14

My husband’s just returned from voting in a filthy mood because he felt compelled to spoil his paper. That’s one less vote for the Tory incumbent, although our votes here are like spitting in the sea.

StarryGazeyEyes · 12/12/2019 12:16

I'm feeling a lot more stoic today. The little flame of hope is still burning, but i'm managing my expectations. Thanks so much to everyone who invests time and energy in these threads - you really make a difference.

magimedi · 12/12/2019 12:16

MilkTray

It means PlaceMarKing.

dontcallmelen · 12/12/2019 12:17

MilkTray abbreviation for marking place on thread.

prettybird · 12/12/2019 12:17

Our local polling station said that voting has been "steady" Smile

Ds will be recorded as a "Did not vote" down here - but is voting (SNP Wink) up in Aberdeen North (Kirsty Blackman's constituency).

Milktray - PMK= Place Mat King which was an Autocarrot for Place Marking and which morphed into the various cat (and dog) related versions.

Hazardexhausted · 12/12/2019 12:18

Also fecking freezing here and raining.

Phone blew up this morning with leaver friends sending vote labour videos and memes. Save the NHS. I was surprised i thought a few had turned Tory...they really haven't!

haven't heard from middle class leavers but they always vote tory

GeistohneGrenzen · 12/12/2019 12:30

PMK

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/12/2019 12:38

Just back from voting. I'm in a small village in a geographically large key swing seat, currently held by an ERG slug.

Those manning the polling station report a much larger turn-out than usual, even those it's been pouring rain all morning.

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/12/2019 12:41

Starry ''The little flame of hope is still burning, but i'm managing my expectations.''
Precisely how I feel too

BestIsWest · 12/12/2019 12:51

DS reported a small queue at our polling station at 7am. Lab/con marginal Wales, currently Lab.

AvengingAngel · 12/12/2019 12:56

Delurking to say my area - Tory seat since forever AND one of the most deprived areas in the country - has been flooded with labour posters/banners/canvassing. They were on the main roundabout this morning and outside the school. I’ve had people knocking at my door and it seems every other window has a labour sticker. I’m praying that labour takes it.

QueenMabby · 12/12/2019 13:08

Placed My Kross PMK. Best I could do. Sorry.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/12/2019 13:10

This probably counts for very little in the grand scheme of things, but the results came out today for our school’s (students) “fake” election. Labour came first! Lds 2nd, Tories 3rd and Greens 4th. The kids are alright Smile

This is in a safe conservative seat, but it’s Matt Hancock’s seat and he doesn’t seem to be very well liked around here. It will be interesting to see if his majority reduces. Thankfully I live in a different constituency so I am safe from his crapness Smile

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/12/2019 13:12

Oh, and I’m voting on my way home from work, after I cross the county line marked by the sign that proudly declares “Fuck you Boris”. Smile

DarlingNikita · 12/12/2019 13:14

You're brilliant, Red; thank you.

I voted Green; very safe Labour seat, so I felt I could afford to.

Apileofballyhoo · 12/12/2019 13:22

UnaOfStormhold love that poem, thanks for posting.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 12/12/2019 13:25

All the local Tory signs near me have mysteriously disappeared in the last week. Not a single one to be seen on the mile long school run along main roads Grin

StarryGazeyEyes · 12/12/2019 13:45

I haven't seen a single Tory poster or board here either, which is a first. There's not much for any party though to be honest, and I think it's partly down to the fact we are a very small community and all have to get on with each other once this is over, so people aren't wanting to alienate themselves from their friends and neighbours.

MockersFactCheckMN · 12/12/2019 13:51

I remember 1992, and how much it hurt, so I'm saying nowt.
