Apparently the pollsters are nervous.

There are far more undecided than there have been at this stage in recent general election.

This makes it a hugely fine line between a hung parliament and a massive tory majority.

The weather on Thursday isn't expected to be nice and this could affect turnout. The blue corner are particularly nervous about this, but don't forget those postal votes.

Whatever happens on Thursday at least this election campaign is nearly over. And that can't be a bad thing.

And Christmas is in a fortnight so we can all drown our sorrows or celebrate in style.

You always have time to restock the drinks if you end up resort to them on Thursday

(New election special thread on Thursday rather than bunging up Westminstenders BTW)

< so glad I migrated to Germany >

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 22:06

Strange to feel safer in modern Germany than in my own country Sad

BirdandSparrow · 09/12/2019 22:09

Pmk. Watching nervously as a Brit in Spain. Also Irish, but that's not on my residency document, have an appointment to try to change that tomorrow.

boatyardblues · 09/12/2019 22:10

PMK whilst holding onto my hat for the next couple of days’ bumpy ride.

All young voters should note the ages at which the politicians bought their first home (all in their 20's)
something unimaginable to most youngsters now

Johnson in those clips seems so disengaged and tired. How can we possibly be in a situation where he has such a commanding lead in the polls?? If he showed up for a job interview like that, he'd never be asked back for a second.

longtimelurkerhelen · 09/12/2019 22:34

I think Johnson has a bet going with his Bullingdon Brothers to answer every single question put to him with Brexit, no matter the subject.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/12/2019 22:42

PMK. Torn between watching the horror or ignoring it. DH won't shut up when I'm trying to ignore it though. He's so worried too.

FlowersFlowersFlowers to all of you. I don't know if I'll stay up on Thursday night or not. It might be too upsetting.

We're upset and worried and we're Irish and we live in Ireland. Lots of close family and friends in the UK though. So it's hard not to worry.

Maybe Boris will be caught on camera saying something absolutely terrible. I don't know how terrible it would have to be now though. Can't wait to get rid of the NHS?

placemats · 09/12/2019 22:50

Newsnight: The disgusting story of the four year old boy lying on a hospital floor, in the NHS, in the UK awaiting treatment. Somehow is now turned around to the failure of the Labour Party to engage with voters. The Tory party refused to send a spokesperson to discuss the issue. WTF is going on here?

Now seguing into a a piece about how to treat heart disease.

The agenda is clear.

chomalungma · 09/12/2019 22:53

he disgusting story of the four year old boy lying on a hospital floor, in the NHS, in the UK awaiting treatment

It got lots of coverage on ITV news.

The Mail is barely reporting it. I wonder what the paper headlines will be?

RedToothBrush · 09/12/2019 22:54

The thing about Matt Hancock is just how duplicitous he is.

He said he'd never support a Johnson government.

Then backed him for the leadership.

Said he'd never support no deal.

Then said he would after Johnson became PM.

He will literally say anything he's told to say.

So it's not really surprising its him who was deployed to health. He doesn't really believe in anything. He can't.

So yeah today he's just been deployed to get Johnson out of a hole, like a good little lapdog.

I think in some ways I find him more reprehensible than some of the ERGers for that reason. At least they believe something even if it's not something I agree with.

To vacantly go along with what you are told is bordering on dystopic.

Miliband looks funny eating a bacon sandwich - vilified in the press.

Brown calls a woman a bigot - vilified in the press.

Kinnock is Welsh falls on a beach - vilified in the press.

Johnson - how long is a piece of string - everyone loves him. He's like Trump who famously claimed he could "stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" and not "lose any voters."

www.snopes.com/fact-check/donald-trump-fifth-avenue-comment/

This from David Allen Green nails it regarding Johnson.

wherearemychickens · 09/12/2019 23:00

"vacantly going along with what he is told" describes my Tory MP too, which is why for the first time in my life I have been canvassing and leafleting for the Lib Dems. No backbone, no principles.

magimedi · 09/12/2019 23:01

PMK.

Long time lurker on these threads.

Two aged boomers here who will (& ever have) vote Labour.

(Thank fuck it's the best tactical vote in our constituency as it would pain me mightily to vote Lib Dem).

Most of out friends (of our age) are also saying they will vote tactically to get rid of Johnson & the Torys.

Won't be staying up to watch but will be going to bed with my breath held & will be hoping to wake up to a miracle. They DO happen!

Copperas · 09/12/2019 23:07

I've been reading this brilliant sequence of threads for a long time now: thought it was time to stand up and be counted. I really want to vote Labour but will vote tactically to get rid of our Tory MP, who won by under 100 votes last time.

I started on Mumsnet when my DC were very small, and here we are over 20 years later ... DS1 working in NHS, bearing testimony to crisis on wards; DS2 marshalling huge numbers of volunteers in another constituency to get the Labour vote out; and 1 DD now an experienced canvasser who showed me how to talk to people on the doorstep.

I am so proud of them - and of everyone else working so hard to stop Johnson.

TheMustressMhor · 09/12/2019 23:14

Hot news tonight: my DSIS and her DH who are ardent Tories and who always have a Committee room chez lui for every election, have announced that they cannot vote at all this time.

Unbelievable. As my DD said, if they can't bring themselves to vote Tory - who can?

thecatfromjapan · 09/12/2019 23:18

Well, this is horrible.

Allison Pearson is wading in on the scandal of the child lying on coats in the hospital, claiming it was faked (a nurse has explained to her it was faked); claiming the mother is upset it was politicised by Corbyn (hold on - doesn't that rather contradict claim #1?); and that a FB account has been forwarded to her, claiming an anonymous nurse at the hospital told the FB account (FB account called 'Vote Conservstive') that she saw the mother faking the photo.

All on Twitter. On Allison Pearson's timeline.

It's absolutely nuts.

(And probably a.) indicates how worrying this story is for Johnson b) which journalists are prepared to stake everything on a Johnson victory c.) how absolutely godawful this GE is.)

thecatfromjapan · 09/12/2019 23:19

Sorry, not a FB account, an anonymous Twitter account.

This is insane.

MaxNormal · 09/12/2019 23:22

And how awful Allison Pearson is.

turkeyontheplate · 09/12/2019 23:24

PMK with gratitude as always, and with the ubiquitous cats (and a few fish thrown in if you squint)
