Westminstenders: The Undecideds

Apparently the pollsters are nervous.

There are far more undecided than there have been at this stage in recent general election.

This makes it a hugely fine line between a hung parliament and a massive tory majority.

The weather on Thursday isn't expected to be nice and this could affect turnout. The blue corner are particularly nervous about this, but don't forget those postal votes.

Whatever happens on Thursday at least this election campaign is nearly over. And that can't be a bad thing.

And Christmas is in a fortnight so we can all drown our sorrows or celebrate in style.

You always have time to restock the drinks if you end up resort to them on Thursday

(New election special thread on Thursday rather than bunging up Westminstenders BTW)

Well, I hope you're right, Red.

Honestly, people are great.

Well, the ones who are great are really, really great.

Grim
red has posted before about how the fear of violence is hindering campaigning in some areas

Lewis Goodall@lewisgoodall

There is violence in #ge2019^ but it’s on the doorstep.^

^ Candidates and activists tell me all the time what a tough time they’re having from voters with reports of assault, vandalism and abuse.^

As one Lab door knocker told me just today
“it’s been ugly.
The worst I’ve ever seen.”

ArseDarkly · 10/12/2019 00:16

Never thought I would see such things here, we used to look at US elections aghast at the spite and conniving and stupidity. Now look at our country since Johnson was inflicted on us.

Naturally the locals at the local pub for local people are lapping up Pearson's lies as they earlier lapped up Keunssberg's. They can't get enough of spite and stupidity.

Labour nervous about Brexit Party threat in the Barnsley seats.

Len McCluskey has sent an email out to voters there.
Local MPs and councillors were out in force there today, trying to see off attack.

Lab are being forced to fight in places which are supposed to be bedrock.

Labour source on possible significance of #GE2019:^
^
“Without wanting to exaggerate, the long-standing bond between Labour and working class communities in the North may be irrevocably broken.”

I suspect in Barnsley and most seats like it it’ll be alright on the night.
Just reduced majs.

If I’m wrong then the consequences of this election will be seismic.
Labour will be reduced to an only semi-viable political force.

Butterymuffin · 10/12/2019 00:21

PMK. Hoping with all my might for a hung parliament come exit poll moment. Did people see the Twitter threads by @centrist_phone about attempting to re-weight the polling data to correct problems? Over my head but they reckon doing that shows a 2.84% Tory lead, not what the polls seem to be telling us.

thecatfromjapan · 10/12/2019 00:24

I think that another aspect of Laura Kuensberg's reporting (where she went right along with her Tory source claiming Labour had paid activists to turn up st the hospital, and one threw a punch,) is that it shows she really does think that's how Labour activists operate.

*We don't get paid to go demonstrate or canvass
*
We're people with jobs doing this in our free time, for free

*We're members of a political Party, as well as teachers, nurses, doctors, etc., not some scary rent-a-mob
*
We are facing increased levels of violence - indeed, it seems Labour canvassers are facing levels disproportionate to any other Party

*This kind of story increases the likelihood of aggression on the doorstep.

It's actually incredibly worrying that she seemed to accept this 'source'.

thecatfromjapan · 10/12/2019 00:34

Just thought of one small upside. In order to substantiate that story (because unaware there was footage of the non-assault), some Tory side probably had to punch Hancock in the face.

Hopefully.

AutumnCrow · 10/12/2019 00:35

Laura Kuenssberg has made a wretched fool of herself over Johnson.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/12/2019 00:42

Almost every journalist gets it wrong sometimes, especially during the feeding frenzy of a highly charged GE

However, you know they're a wrong'un when it keeps happening, time after time
and always the slant in a particular political direction

3dogs2cats · 10/12/2019 00:52

Ah well. We will see what happens on Thursday. As others have said, it may be good if they do have to clear up their own mess. But I am so. Frustrated.

lonelyplanetmum · 10/12/2019 05:18

Laura Kuenssberg at least has company, as millions more are also making wretched fools of themselves over Johnson.

" Beware the jokers and the tricksters and the clowns. They will laugh us all to hell.”

Pmk

TheElementsSong · 10/12/2019 05:55

The "poor Tory victim punched by Labour thug" and the "evil commie mother faked photo of ill child" stories, complete with LK reports and social media links, are being enthusiastically embraced in the Barmy Arms.

mathanxiety · 10/12/2019 06:39

PMK. One of these days I'll figure out how to post a photo of my naughty cat.

Katharinblum · 10/12/2019 06:41

Not sure conditions were as bad as leeds general but there were 17 ambulances parked outside our A/E yesterday morning. Our ward is directly above so we see all the comings and goings. Managers were also asking staff to come in on days off to man winter pressure wards.

Red cross declared the NHS a humanitarian crisis in 2017 and it is worse now. More A&Es have shut since, more staff left, and more community services stripped back.

I think the only answer is for Westminstenders is to club together or maybe a whip round and buy a daily rag. Then start slowly drip feeding the truth to the voting public about the lies , manipulation, and dark money sold to them.

All those poor sods voting for the Tories. Turkeys literally voting for Christmas.

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2019 07:05

Are we even sure the man was a'Labour activist'? He looked more like an angry junior doctor to me!

I bet the Tories are killing themselves laughing in this campaign. No matter what they do, no matter what BJ says, no matter what he leaders’ debates he can’t be bothered to even turn up to, they’re still ahead in the polls.

If he started biting the heads off kittens, Laura Keunssberg would probably tweet saying-‘look, Corbyn’s shirt’s untucked-Tory lead increases!’
