Westminstenders: The Undecideds

Apparently the pollsters are nervous.

There are far more undecided than there have been at this stage in recent general election.

This makes it a hugely fine line between a hung parliament and a massive tory majority.

The weather on Thursday isn't expected to be nice and this could affect turnout. The blue corner are particularly nervous about this, but don't forget those postal votes.

Whatever happens on Thursday at least this election campaign is nearly over. And that can't be a bad thing.

And Christmas is in a fortnight so we can all drown our sorrows or celebrate in style.

You always have time to restock the drinks if you end up resort to them on Thursday

(New election special thread on Thursday rather than bunging up Westminstenders BTW)

I am finding this Emma Barnett rather annoying but the I am finding the whole programme cringeworthy.

Well done to Angela Raynor for calling out the use of 'loony' by the Tory.

I have noticed a lot more name calling in politics now :it's like the 80s. 'Loony' , 'lefties' , 'Trots' etc etc.

RedToothBrush · 09/12/2019 21:27

Jo Swinson is very confrontatal and shouty on QT in comparison to the others. Robert Jenrick is just lying. Frogface is just racist. Labour woman is invisible. Jon Bartlett is OK I suppose. The SNP guy just shouts about a Scottish referendum a lot.

Emma Barnet is the best thing on it. By far. She's good.

pmk. I'll be staying up on Thursday night.

And from an old, about to retire A&E nurse, big ((( ))) to @squid4. My career spans almost half a century, it's never been this bad.

chomalungma · 09/12/2019 21:28

Labour woman is invisible

Are you watching the same debate? Grin

TheABC · 09/12/2019 21:31

Johnson looks knackered. It's either that or he truly does not want to win and the clangers are all part of some weird plot with the backroom PR guys.

I am doing the same with the election as the Referendum. I will place my vote, switch off the TV and await the morning verdict. I need my sleep!

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2019 21:32

I am wondering that too! I can't say I agree the SNP guy just shouts. He has spoken once when I have been watching and certainly didn't shout. Invisible Angela on the other hand has come out all guns!

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2019 21:32

I think Adam Price might have nodded off...

Iwantacookie · 09/12/2019 21:33

I'm getting more and more anxious the closer we get.

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2019 21:34

No, please don't come to me, says Adam... I have no idea what we were talking about as I was having a nap...

colouringinpro · 09/12/2019 21:35

helen me too. I'm really worried. I dread a Friday morning which is a repeat of the Ref result day.

I'm concerned there are lots of shy Tory voters who will return Johnson and after that I'm terrified. The detail in the Tory manifesto is seriously bad, and combined with today's horrendous comments from him about EU immigrants I really fear where this will all end.

And selfishly with a dd with ASD, ex with Bipolar and seriously ill ds, the NHS getting worse is an horrendous prospect.

Not sure what to do Thurs night. I need to get some sleep, don't know when to be awake for - any suggestions?

colouringinpro · 09/12/2019 21:36

iwantacookie me too Gin

GeistohneGrenzen · 09/12/2019 21:36

Max given what's in the Tory manifesto in terms of changing the role of the courts, this feels like possibly the last chance to stop something very ugly.
I hope to hell I'm wrong.

So do I but like you and Helen I've been thinking for some time now along the same lines of good and evil...

Pointythings I think it was you who mentioned Matt Hancock - I'm in the same constituency and unless something really untoward happens he'll get in again. Maybe he'll win his battle but his war will be lost? Hardly dare to hope...

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 09/12/2019 21:36

longtimelurkerhelen I don’t know if it’s the log fire or the music but I found that really soothing! Grin JC is so much easier to listen to than BJ. JC speaks in full coherent human-like sentences. Boris stutters and goes for a verbal wander half way through his sentence and it’s so annoying to listen to. For an educated man BJ really can’t string a sentence together. I have no idea how people have any confidence in him.

Forgotmy · 09/12/2019 21:37

Let us have another election in March or something.

The FTPA is a fkn joke now, this is the third (I think) election in under five years now. So it sure can be manipulated despite the over arching so called LAW.

QueenOfThorns · 09/12/2019 21:40

Angela Rayner is being far from invisible, she’s just confirmed that Labour aren’t going to nationalise sausages, FGS!

I’m very impressed by the SNP guy (except when he accused Labour of causing the global financial crisis) and Jo Swinson spoke well just now about the environment (a lot of nodding going on in the audience). The Tory guy is the invisible one.

thecatfromjapan · 09/12/2019 21:40
Thanks
Ellie56 · 09/12/2019 21:40

Johnson looks knackered.

It's probably exhausting dodging all those shouty protesters everywhere he goes, not to mention those dreadful reporters that keep asking awkward questions and wanting interviews.

Forgotmy · 09/12/2019 21:45

Johnson may be tired, so what.

He has the Premiership ahead of him, and his Dad so proud of him.

Lovely. They will never see a poor day in their lives will they?

And Brexit will NEVER be done either really will it?

longtimelurkerhelen · 09/12/2019 21:53

I'm glad you're doing a separate "Westministenders Election Night Special"
(thread title ?)

Always uncomfortable to be bunged up

Yep, pollsters must be nervous:
all depends on whether the Tories gain sufficient Labour seats in N England, Midlands & Wales to compensate for expected losses to the LDems & SNP and produce clear blue water

So turnout and vote distribution - geographical and age for both - will be critical, as well as tactical voting

The Exit Poll shortly after 10pm has been very accurate the last few GEs, but maybe even that could be less accurate than usual,
because of the changed voting habits on both "sides" because of Brexit
We don't know if their sampling & weighting will be accurate for this new political situation

PMK. And agree about the 1930s Germany portents, as has been discussed on here for ages, with sadly no reason to think any different as time goes on.
