Westminstenders: The Undecideds

Apparently the pollsters are nervous.

There are far more undecided than there have been at this stage in recent general election.

This makes it a hugely fine line between a hung parliament and a massive tory majority.

The weather on Thursday isn't expected to be nice and this could affect turnout. The blue corner are particularly nervous about this, but don't forget those postal votes.

Whatever happens on Thursday at least this election campaign is nearly over. And that can't be a bad thing.

And Christmas is in a fortnight so we can all drown our sorrows or celebrate in style.

You always have time to restock the drinks if you end up resort to them on Thursday

(New election special thread on Thursday rather than bunging up Westminstenders BTW)

Likely tory for my constituency - but ... labour have had a good game and the tories have been all but invisible. His majority was 331 and is a leaver in a remain constituency. The Lib Dems got a 1000 votes last time - if just some of them vote tactically then it is all to play for.

Morley and Outwood says likely tory as well. Andrea Jeynkins lead is bigger than my MP's - so I think she is more likely to get back in - but again labour have had a very good ground game. And Morley is the home of both the man who chased Boris down the street asking him why he wasn't in Brussels getting a deal and the man who said 'please leave my town.'

Meanwhile I've wished on every star on my Christmas tree and both my rabbits' feet asking for a reverse '92. Though they both hopped off, disgruntled, so they may not be working their lucky bunny mojo for me.

David Allen Green’s latest blog on how the Conservatives have morphed into a populist nationalist authoritarian party.

Like RTB my considered opinion is that a Tory government is very likely - I'm just holding out hopes that it's not an outright majority and that the DUP hold the balance of power again. That would be such poetic justice ... and it would make for a hilarious few months on the Brexit front, especially as quite a few of the labour Brexit rebels seem set to lose seats.

It would be terrible for the country of course, but tbh there is no feasible outcome that is good for the country.

Why the Libs and Lab agreed to this election I will NEVER understand.

Peregrina · 11/12/2019 09:31

I woke up too feeling a sense of despair, that this is the last day of normal life.

Like people must have done when Hitler got into power.

Peregrina · 11/12/2019 09:32

Why the Libs and Lab agreed to this election I will NEVER understand.

It was SNP too, wasn't it? I too will never understand. I would have let Johnson sweat it out for another couple of years.

TheLevellers · 11/12/2019 09:33

I remember that disappointment in 1992 (I did have one friend who correctly predicted what would happen though). 1992 is the election that keeps coming to my mind at the moment - 1997 showed later what the lead up to an election where things are actually going to change looks like, and this isn't it. I'd love to be wrong though.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/12/2019 09:34

So ... um... does anybody know what the story is about Boris Jonson hiding in a fridge in an attempt to dodge journalists?

Tbh sno andlab and lib dems have ALL put party before country where this GE is concerned.
They all KNOW what 5 more years of tory rule will do to the UK but they think it will hasten their own agenda.
And WHERE THE FUCK are people like kier starmer and Yvette Cooper?

lonelyplanetmum · 11/12/2019 09:36

Thanks continuity that David Allen Green blog is so accurate.

MaxNormal · 11/12/2019 09:37

On a lighter note, Johnson ran away from a journalist and hid in a fridge.

I also noticed that every last one of the people commenting on Peston's latest article say they're going to vote Labour, apart from one permatroll and one SNP supporter.

thecatfromjapan · 11/12/2019 09:37

Yes, Levellers. Exactly that.

My whole body stores the memory of 1992.

I'm saying no more, though, because I'm pressing on until polls close at 10 on Thursday.

Pretzels I might go and grab my bunny, too.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/12/2019 09:38

Along with Liverpool fans - people at a Libertines gig in Manchester whilst they were waiting for the encore.

oh jeremy corbyn!

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 11/12/2019 09:39

I think the Tory twats will stay in. In terms of brexit I still have hope that it won't happen or will happen in a way that doesn't completely screw our country. If things go tits up I really hope those who caused it pay the price. They know what they are voting for so fuck then.

Peregrina · 11/12/2019 09:39

I remember 1992 yes. No, this is is not like the build up to 1997 - then we had John Smith, who looked like a PM in waiting. Sadly after his premature death, we had Blair, who did at least maintain tight discipline in the party with the aim of getting them elected. Things did get better - there was more money for schools, which was the area I was involved with at the time.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/12/2019 09:40

I might go and grab my bunny, too.

my thinking is: their feet are probably even luckier whilst their still alive (and never has there been a more pampered prince and princess bunny than my two - so they must be the luckiest bunnies in the world)

Peregrina · 11/12/2019 09:41

As for the Oh Jeremy Corbyn stuff - it's not being reported, is it? But it is happening.

TheElementsSong · 11/12/2019 09:41

Why is everybody extra sad this morning? Confused Were people hoping that the latest MRP would miraculously show a Tory defeat? Did I miss some source of optimism for a shift in polling in the past few days? Confused

lonelyplanetmum · 11/12/2019 09:43

I'm following David Allen Green on Facebook now ...Such an accurate summary of all the constitutional outrages yet few people follow him.

Peregrina · 11/12/2019 09:47

I've been following David Allen Green. The saddest thing for me is that moderate Tories, the sort who are community minded and get stuck in helping out, are unable to see just how far their party has lurched to the right.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/12/2019 09:49

Thanks for linking that article MaxNormal - that was hilarious. I didn't realise it all happened live on air.

How on earth is the shambolic pig in a thatched wig going to cope with being the PM, if he's taken by surprise at journalists talking to him in an election campaign?

Anyone thinking of voting for him because he'll get anything done should watch that and seriously reconsider the likelihood. Is he going to conduct trade deals with the EU and U.S from inside a fridge?

ContinuityError · 11/12/2019 09:49

On a lighter note, Johnson ran away from a journalist and hid in a fridge.

Johnson was ambushed by GMB this morning, asking if he’d appear on the show - to which a grumpy minder says “for fucks sake” and hustled the camera crew off - and GMB gets the live reaction of Moron and Reid back in the studio Smile

“Cowardice is not a good look”.

Our Labour candidate and sidekick were outside the post office as I drove through this morning. I gave them a cheery wave and a big smile. Was going to stop and talk on my way back and reassure them of 4 votes, but they'd moved on. Also seen my first Tory poster of this campaign and saw 2 Green ones yesterday.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 11/12/2019 10:06

Maybe Boris is hoping he won't win because then he won't actually have to do anything. He's bigging up his twat image and you have to wonder why. Sure, he wants the power trip but he doesn't actually want the responsibility to act that goes with it. He knows he's d the tories will be blamed for the shot of brexit (quite rightly) and that must instil the fear.

Lucygoeswalkies · 11/12/2019 10:16

The latest Yougov MRP poll still has my constituency as ‘lean Plaid’. Worringly, it now has conservative very nearly level pegging with LibDem, with Labour trailing behind. The 2017 GE saw Plaid get in with a 104 vote lead over LIbDem. Labour and Conservative were both around 4,000 votes behind the LibDems, with Labour just ahead of the Conservatives. So a definite shift with regards to the two big parties, if the Yougov poll is accurate its prediction. Still no Tory posters round here. I’ve seen one Labour poster. Most of the farmers vote LibDem (so I’m told).
