Westminstenders: The Undecideds

Apparently the pollsters are nervous.

There are far more undecided than there have been at this stage in recent general election.

This makes it a hugely fine line between a hung parliament and a massive tory majority.

The weather on Thursday isn't expected to be nice and this could affect turnout. The blue corner are particularly nervous about this, but don't forget those postal votes.

Whatever happens on Thursday at least this election campaign is nearly over. And that can't be a bad thing.

And Christmas is in a fortnight so we can all drown our sorrows or celebrate in style.

You always have time to restock the drinks if you end up resort to them on Thursday

(New election special thread on Thursday rather than bunging up Westminstenders BTW)

South East Cambridgeshire looks set to remain Liberal Democrat, making Heidi Allen the only defector to the party likely to win a seat

The Telegraph actually says this today. You’d think they’d know SE Cambs is still technically Tory and Heidi Allen isn’t even standing. I can’t decide if it’s honest ignorance or a poor attempt to hide a Tory loss.

PigeonofDoom · 11/12/2019 07:59

Yougov shows Philip Davies holding on in my constituency even though he’s buggered off to Cheshire . Not a surprise but depressing nonetheless. I really like the labour candidate.
Hope the tory voters are ready for what they’re voting in, it’ll be the nasty party on steroids.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 11/12/2019 08:03

also human They mean South Cambridgeshire, surely! And while they look v likely to remain libdem, Heidi Allen is certainly not standing there either Smile Election fatigue must be setting in at the telegraph!
Cambridge looks to be staying comfortably Labour, SE Cambs likely tory but libdems creeping up closer, NE+NE Cambs look to be strong tory.

Alsohuman · 11/12/2019 08:11

You’re right Utterly. I hadn’t spotted that. Surely S Cambs is technically still Tory since that’s the way it voted last time. Allison Pearson will be spitting nails with a side dish of vitriol when she finds herself living in a LibDem constituency!

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 08:15

Sorry, how are you all seeing your own constituency?

prettybird · 11/12/2019 08:17

From this website eddie

https://yougov.co.uk/uk-general-election-2019/

Scroll down and there's a field that you can out in a postcode or constituency.

lonelyplanetmum · 11/12/2019 08:20

My friend in Sydney just messaged me four words.

" Your country is fucked."

Thanks for that.

yolofish · 11/12/2019 08:24

Safe Cons here. Sadly.

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 08:28

Safe cons.
We are SO fucked

DrBlackbird · 11/12/2019 08:36

Like RTB, I'm steeling myself for a Tory majority. For my own self presevervation I'm going into a news blackout come friday morning and will carry on for another 4 years. However, I may join the Green Party, which, according to the website and much to my surprise, is the party whose policies I most support.

Ne'er mind - hopefully soon your 'political glands' will boot up and ye'r will take more intrest in what goes on and how it happens. So after GE you can make the difference to where it's needed.

Hate I really have no idea what you mean by this. It is manifestly self evident from all those posting here that they take more than an interest in what goes on and how it happens, let alone how many posters are making a difference to where it's needed.

Would you not agree that Squid working in A&E makes a difference to her patients? Others are actively involved in their local politics, canvassing and campaigning. What about you? What difference are you making to where it's needed?

Btw, feel free to restrain yourself and any other Brexit Arms supporter from coming on Westminstenders on Friday morning to gloat about your victory... (I know those in the Arms will feel a Tory majority to be their victory). Ask yourself, would any posters here go to the Brexit Arms and crow about it if it turned out to be a Labour majority? The answer to that is no...

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 08:40

Thanks.
I'm trying to steal myself.
I might start a thread about planning for 5 more years of tory rule...

prettybird · 11/12/2019 08:46

I don't think anything can ever reach the level of disappointment that I/we felt in 1992 as it was truly expected by everyone ( including the Tories Wink) that Labour would win.

However, I don't think that back then there was anything like the fear at the thought of 5 more years of Conservative rule Sad

lonelyplanetmum · 11/12/2019 08:49

restrain yourself and any other Brexit Arms supporter from coming on Westminstenders on Friday morning to gloat about your victory...

I think that the tendency to gloat is weird psychologically - it bizarrely seems linked with envy and perhaps masks a deep nagging doubt?

Gloating seems rather sad, and lacking in grace. It's almost like a mental adaptation to mask some kind of fear. Fear that the Tories may shaft you and not reciprocate the loyal voting ?

Butterymuffin · 11/12/2019 08:50

2015 is the one that haunts me. Still remember the shock at the exit poll. Had hoped for so much better. And of course that's what set us on this path.

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 08:51

My sociology tutor came to work in a black armband the day after the 1992 GE!

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 08:52

Yep.
Truly feeling the fear atm :(

PostNotInHaste · 11/12/2019 08:57

We have gone from safe Conservative to likely Conservative which is a surprise so tactical voting it is for me.

ArseDarkly · 11/12/2019 09:02

* restrain yourself and any other Brexit Arms supporter from coming on Westminstenders on Friday morning to gloat about your victory...

Let 'em gloat, it won't last long..

thecatfromjapan · 11/12/2019 09:03

I had a small cry last night.

But ... one more day.

That thing you imagined doing? That conversation you imagined having? Where you butt in and tell someone why you need the Tories out - have it, do it.

Especially if you're in a marginal.

So many people are undecided. We've seen the media - it's a disgrace. People know their own reality but are scared things might get worse under a non-Tory government.

They need to be reminded to trust their own experience.

One more day to hope - because hoping's done come Thursday 10 pm.

So ...

A morning prayer - not a small prayer, for the lost shoe or hairbrush, or for patience, when the full cup slips from the unready hand & breaks on the floor.
Not even a prayer for doorways & mornings, when you hold the exam results envelope in your hands or calm your lurching stomach taking your bicycle out for the first time.
But a prayer for the journey we have to make, when the road is hard, and there is no certainty of welcome & sleep, when we are the boat and the storm, and our hearts can't find rest or a path through the wild water & dark sky.
A hope for hope that the stars are still hanging behind the storm, that the silver & gold sky will tear its way through the furious, black cloud & make the sea flat. A hope that gives us the vision of dawn softening the storm, the rest of noon-time, the soft gathering of a summer evening.
Because not all journeys can be taken in good weather, and with certainty. But must be taken when we are not ready for them & unprepared. And at the time of necessity not choice.
And we need a hope that will build us the shelter, and the journey's rest, and the clement weather as we walk.
Because the journey must be done, and the hope, the belief that this storm will end,is perhaps the greatest gift we can bring to this journey's end.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 11/12/2019 09:08

Likeky Tory for Hazel grove apparently. I'm going to go cry into my cup of tea. My faith in humanity isn't great at the best of times but how anyone can vote to fuck over the disadvantaged is beyond me.

TiddleTaddleTat · 11/12/2019 09:12

Fortunately cons have no chance in my seat
