Boris Johnson was empty chaired by C4 with a block of ice.

The Conservatives went mental and have threatened to look at C4 broadcast remit.

This is illiberal and anti democratic.

Journalists are supposed to hold power to account on behalf of the public. If MPs don't turn up then they can't be held to account.

They have a duty to show. It's not good enough to avoid scrutiny because it might make you look bad. That's the whole point.

The contempt with which Johnson holds the press and public is reprehensible and you should be concerned whatever your political alligence. It allows corruption to fester without consequence.

And to then threaten C4 because they do their job in line with their responsibility as a broadcaster is alarming.

This is how authoritarian dictators work.

DH and I just looked at each other and asked if Johnson was saying what it sounded like. When asked about NI he said if they didn't like it they could... and seemed to cut off. Was the end of that sentence meant to be fuck off and rejoin ROI?

I thought Marr did pretty well there to expose BJ's diversion tactics, he did call him out when he was 'chuntering'.
Shame he didn't point out which were the bare faced lies re. child poverty, for example.

BJ lies says whatever he thinks will mollify the audience he is in front of at that particular minute.

Had a visit from MIL yesterday. Chatted about Brexit. BIL is a lovely, kind, sensible, reasonable man, and highly intelligent. He voted Leave (the bus and NHS). Realised that was a lie, not true, etc etc etc. Is still voting Tory because the stalemate is a bad thing and Boris will Get Brexit Done. Millionaire cousin (and BIL's best friend) also voting Tory because zero hour contacts save him lots of money as he sends employees home when it's quiet. BIL thinks immigrants are driving down wages. Millionaire cousin thinks immigrants are straining the system. BIL also thinks this. It takes two weeks to get a GP appointment.

MIL says she pointed out to millionaire cousin that other younger cousin was living at home as couldn't afford rent, and going to work was costing her her train fare only to be sent home when it was quiet, so she wasn't even recouping the cost of travel. Millionaire cousin couldn't care less.

MIL says there is no talking to either of them and it's like they've been brainwashed. Neither of them give a particular shit about NI despite being children of Irish immigrants, and calling their children Irish names, and watching the hurling etc etc.

I think he means he hasn't done it and will never do it, but the tories will just tell us that he has - and that we all saw it - and that we all loved it - until people actually start to believe the lie.

I can't help think that when people say they "Want Brexit done", they don't mean, "let's brexit at all costs, hang the consequences, we will deal with that later." but that they really mean "I am sick and tired of hearing about Brexit, I don't care, just shut up."

Those who do aren't heard sufficiently, or are marginalised. It's a media conspiracy aimed at increasing their power base by colluding to create wider economic inequality. If too many useful idiots really begin to question that meaningless and absurd imperative, the myth will be exposed and the Establishment will lose a golden opportunity to oppress and control.
