Boris Johnson was empty chaired by C4 with a block of ice.

The Conservatives went mental and have threatened to look at C4 broadcast remit.

This is illiberal and anti democratic.

Journalists are supposed to hold power to account on behalf of the public. If MPs don't turn up then they can't be held to account.

They have a duty to show. It's not good enough to avoid scrutiny because it might make you look bad. That's the whole point.

The contempt with which Johnson holds the press and public is reprehensible and you should be concerned whatever your political alligence. It allows corruption to fester without consequence.

And to then threaten C4 because they do their job in line with their responsibility as a broadcaster is alarming.

This is how authoritarian dictators work.

Maybe I can let myself have hope again.

Not until the votes are counted; the Tories fail to get the magic 326 seats and with any luck Boris Johnson loses his seat.

Don't get too excited by the number of boards and posters around - that means there is a well organised constituency team getting them out. The shy Tories turn up on polling day and vote for the pig with the blue rosette......

Alsohuman · 30/11/2019 18:51

Don’t get excited, there’s nearly two weeks to go.

KeithPartridge · 30/11/2019 18:54

I won't get excited, especially as I know a lot of Tories won't want to admit to voting for that bunch of creeps but will do it anyway. Still, it's good to see a more positive poll.

KeithPartridge · 30/11/2019 18:54

Tory voters I mean.

TiddleTaddleTat · 30/11/2019 18:54

It's good to see some tightening of the polls but I'm very sceptical. Polls are often politically motivated and Labour making headway in them might prompt more 'shy tories' to come out and vote for them on election day.
The Labour manifesto is absolutely pitched right from my perspective - absolutely radical and forward thinking. Isn't it possible that Labour might even get more than a hung parliament , given that they really aren't just offering more of the same old ... and something quite exciting?

Shhhhhhh, don’t tempt fate!

squid4 · 30/11/2019 19:03

polls are nonsense but it feels a bit heartening anyway. The observer has always been the most anti-corbyn and so it will prbably be a 25 point lead for tories tomorrow. ignore, keep talking to people

(I do feel a teeeny bit vindicated for saying way back when that Johnson was a SHIT campaigner and a coward, so many people back in october were gloomily telling me he was an amazing speaker and bold and well liked and he would never run a disastrous campaign like may did)

anyway, I'm mainly glad people are actually finally tlaking about the NHS I've been ranting about the state of A&E/mental health/ambulances for months and most people (left and right ) were like yeah but brexit? I feel on the edge of PTSD with the amount of death I've seen lately, some of it avoidable

my telegraph reading mum says the papers are lying and is voting for public services and the climate. not sure what that will be in her constituency but it aint tory. She's a boomer. She also thinks people are unusually engaged in this election and turnout will be high. My dad's practically an eco-warrior these days. They were both always far more small-c conservative than me. Strange times.

I snorted my coffee reading the first five words of this Times editorial today. Chance would be a fine thing. This is a red rag to the Trump bull.
Let’s see how he ignores it.

Don't a load of people normally turn up to gloat about the polls at this point?

placemats · 30/11/2019 19:13

I urge you all to read this blog. It's informative and the best regarding Brexit.

There's another poll tonight which has the gap widening. But I think overall there does seem to have been some tightening.

Some of it is just small parties being squeezed due to FPTP but I like to think that even if the great British public can stomach a PM who is a liar or a coward, it draws the line at one who is a liar AND a coward.

BigChocFrenzy · 30/11/2019 19:18

"seeing Boris and Trump french kissing

Thanks for that Hmm < cleans vomit off ipad pro >

Greykitten · 30/11/2019 19:19

Placemats Chris Grey is fab. Best Brexit writer bar none. He's a much better writer than most journalists, because he's not boxed in by a house style, but he's also a better writer than most academics, because he knows how to communicate to non-experts. Even if I disagreed with him I'd find pleasure in reading his work.

tobee · 30/11/2019 19:19

You know people including me say:-

"how much further Labour would be ahead in the polls if Corbyn wasn't leader?"

Howabout:-

"Why isn't the Tory party further ahead in the polls when they've got Johnson as leader?"

🤔

When you've got little hope, I take what I can get!

pointythings · 30/11/2019 19:41

We all know about shy Tories, but I wonder whether we might see the shy Labour voter this time - the one who says 'But Corbyn' because it's the done thing, but who puts their cross in that box come polling day. People do tend to gravitate to their comfort zone.

Boris Johnson personally warned about risks of freeing terrorists but said there was ‘no money’ to deradicalise them, ex-top prosecutor says

derxa · 30/11/2019 19:45

Anyone but Corbyn

placemats · 30/11/2019 19:59

squid4 · 30/11/2019 20:01

Corbyn, that tree planting bastard. BUT HOW COULD YOU PLANT SO MANY TREES?

You know, or we could just all roll over and die!

squid4 · 30/11/2019 20:02

Sorry I've had a glass of wine and am feeling fiesty. Back on nights shortly and will resume usual downbeat self ;)

derxa · 30/11/2019 20:09

Readers I give you Richard Tice! Grin Ha ha ha! Actually if Richard had different policies I would vote for him! He's really handsome.

I'm voting Lib Dem as it happens

JustAnotherPoster00 · 30/11/2019 20:10

BUT HOW COULD YOU PLANT SO MANY TREES?

What I've noticed the people who say that seem to think the trees will be planted by hand Grin we invented drones and robots to do that sort of work over a decade ago

PeninsulaPanic · 30/11/2019 20:15
