Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

Ok EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit Remain supporters never get criticised en masse here and Leave supporters ALWAYS get criticised en masse on other threads.
That's absolutely how it is and you will never see anything else. Hmm

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:12

“Remain supporters never get criticised en masse here”

Evidence please.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:13

“That's absolutely how it is and you will never see anything else. hmm”

Projection is not becoming of you Bellini.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:14

I mean yeah, those stupid remainers, democratically voting for something they believe in. How very dare they.

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 13:18

The similarities in tone towards "the other side" between this thread and the Westminsterenders threads are pretty clear. This thread tends to be cheery with snacks etc and the other thread has cat photos but at the heart of it, Brexit Arms clientele think all Westminsterenders are Remain voting Corbyn lovers and Westminsterenders think all Arms clientele are Johnson loving Leavers.
Every time I think it's more nuanced than that , posters on either prove me wrong .

There's a tendency on here to put all Remain supporters in one box, just as there is elsewhere on here re:Leave voters.

That would be a very narrow view, Bellini. My sister voted both Conservative and Remain. We argue good-naturedly about the referendum but not about the choice of party. My stepson is a Corbynista and was a Remainer. After much remarkably good-natured debate, I've converted him to Leave. Still working on the Corbynista bit though Grin. The other day, he expressed strong views that made him sound decidedly Tory so I told him so. He's still recovering from the shock.

If Leave/Remain divided cleanly on party lines, people mightn't be facing such hard choices - yourself included.

Despite that, I'm glad you're back. And despite my view that a spoiled vote says nothing, I think yours is a principled stand: you cannot bear to vote for what's on offer because it's too important to you; you can't bear not to vote because a vote is the symbol of democracy and that's important to you too. Have I summed that up accurately?

Well, if you think that, why not go start your own thread. Maybe explain to everyone on it, for the gazillionth time, that you are writing NONE on your ballot. And that no one is allowed to criticise any specific individuals for nasty behaviour, lest they be accused of believing the same of an entire group of people. Sound fun?

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 13:24

Accurate summing up.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:24

See! Derail mission. SUCCESS.

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 13:24

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit , you need to relax a bit.

SingingLily · 02/12/2019 13:24

Autumn, this is the place where "everyone knows your name" and there's always a drink waiting for you on the bar. We'll still be here when you get back. Don't get too tired on your shifts Smile

“EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit , you need to relax a bit.”

No. You need to stop gaslighting the posters on this thread and the other thread. It’s tedious.

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 13:27

Jesus, EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit , sorry I'm not dancing to your tune all the time.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:28

“sorry I'm not dancing to your tune all the time.”

HAHAHAHA!!! Ironic!!!!

SingingLily · 02/12/2019 13:28

Brexit Arms clientele think all Westminsterenders are Remain voting Corbyn lovers

Do you now accept that isn't true, Bellini?

You must know by now how I hate stereotypes.

Glitterball
SingingLily · 02/12/2019 13:31

OK, coffee and panettone time.

Bellini, if you are still smarting about the other day, I recognise that. But you really are pushing it now. Don't. Please.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:35

“OK, coffee and panettone time.”

Sorry Singing,Sad we have just done this exact same BS to death, a million times over, over the course of months and months. I’m over it. I will no longer engage with the silliness. I’m done.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:35

That should have also said thanks for the coffee! Smile

howabout · 02/12/2019 13:36

Just for context on polling.

In 2015 the actual vote shares were Tory 37%, Labour 30%, LibDem 8%.
This delivered a Tory majority

In 2017 the actual vote shares were Tory 42%, Labour 40%, LibDem 7%.
This delivered a hung Parliament

Perplexed as to why electoral calculus is modelling a hung parliament on a 9% gap. The model looks even odder for individual seat change predictions.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:36

Anyhoo, would someone recap for me where the ‘actual’ conversation was at?! 😬

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 13:37

Ahhh! How! Like a lighthouse amidst the fog! Thank you!

SingingLily · 02/12/2019 13:37

Epic, don't be sorry. Everyone was having a convivial conversation in the Arms, including you, until Bellini showed up.

Bellini, may I remind you of the pub rule? Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome.

Bet Lynch in her glory days stood no nonsense and at times like this, she would bellow, "Oy, if you want a barney, Take It Outside!" She is my role model, but with a Liverpudlian accent and minus the leopardskin and chandelier earrings, of course.

So on that note...Take It Outside, chuck.

Howabout, a welcome sight!

Perplexed as to why electoral calculus is modelling a hung parliament on a 9% gap. The model looks even odder for individual seat change predictions.

The Conservatives would still have a 12-seat majority but that's a sheer working majority. If the other parties ganged up and there were a couple of Tory rebels or abstainers (less likely, admittedly, as the Grievous Bunch will largely have disappeared), it makes that working majority wafer thin. That's the precarious position that Theresa May found herself post-2017 even with ten DUP MPs to take her over the line with about six votes to spare.

Boris would be vulnerable to dissension in the ranks.
