Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

👏 👏 👏 walking!! 😂

If anyone has a twitter account and wants to C&P it into a tweet, feel free! 🙌

HateIsNotGood · 01/12/2019 19:47

Done mate. The Twit thing - took 2 Twits - word limits dontcha know.

Really handy I'm not a Twit follower, nor Twit guru - and don't care what anyone thinks of me.

Wow, just in the door and caught up with the thread! My usual double G and T please.
Just watched the ITV debate - in real time!
Only people I actually thought came over particularly well was NF and the Green party lady. I really with the rest of them would stop all this political point scoring and talk honestly about the issues.

As for the Andrew Marr interview, what a complete shit show, O.M.G.!! He never let BJ finish a sentence before he was jumping in so we didn't hear any of the answers.
Please, please BJ do the Andrew Neil interview and please, please stop the sound bites.

DustyDiamond · 01/12/2019 21:18

I swerved it Double - in real time! 😉😏
All same-old, same-old now

Just seen a thread on twitter (link at end) which was interesting - on the topic of Jezza & co's rants about Big Pharma! & specifically off the back of a tweet by Jess Philips who said

"The privatisation of the NHS will maybe not mean that people have to pay at the point of delivery but it will mean and already does mean that someone makes a profit out of your child having cancer, or that your misery gives someone else a dividend."

The tweeter works in clinical trials & it's quite a good insight into it all I thought...

I know about Corbyns past but was it common knowledge that John McDonnell went to a £36,000 a year public school? He always acts like he was the son a coal miner and lived off bread and water in a council house.

They are always going on about the privilege in the Conservative party but the Corbyn front bench were born with the same silver spoon in their mouth.

Dapplegrey · 01/12/2019 21:46

Walking - very true.

AutumnRose1 · 01/12/2019 21:55

I didn’t know that about McConnell

Re the NHS, I have two chronic health conditions and I just assumed they’ve made money out of that for years!

SingingLily · 01/12/2019 22:41

I can't stop laughing at the Twelve Days of Christmas 😂🤣😂🤣
Sorry I missed the end - fabulous teamwork.

The Twitter link doesn't work for me. Does anyone have another one? I'd love to see it live.

McDonnell concealed his private school education and according to today's papers, that story about him training to be a priest until he discovered girls at the age of 16 is a complete surprise to the school. Any priestly ambitions seem to have been confined to the inside of his own head.

I am not suggesting that he was lying. No no no no no. He just has figments of his imagination.

Morning, All!

Just ten days now to the Big Day. After a relatively chilled and spam-free Sunday, expect normal service to resume in Westminster today.

Teas and coffees available as always, along with the complimentary breakfast tray. There were some frozen unbaked croissants and pains au raisin in the freezer that needed using up so here they are, fresh out of the oven. Bon appetit!

And in today's news, this sobering thought from the Telegraph:

"Jeremy Corbyn protested against the extradition of British terror suspects to the United States as Anjem Choudhary, a mentor to the London Bridge attacker, led a rally for the same cause just thirty yards away."

This was in 2012, outside the Royal Courts of Justice. Photo of Jezbollah speaking at the protest here.

No doubt he would say he "was present but not involved".

SingingLily · 02/12/2019 09:23

☕️🥐Time4chocolate and good morning!

Make the most of the day.

The Donald arrives tonight. And he's determined to be helpful 😔

I forgot about this, 😱 there was some sort of potential link with Usman to Choudhary mentioned in the papers yesterday. Probs just the usual speculation though. Will have a look...

God. Jezza is either an exceptionally misguided or dangerous fool. My bet is both.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 09:37

Morning BTW! Lol, a buttered croissant over here too please landlady! ✊🥀

SingingLily · 02/12/2019 09:41

Morning, Epic! ☕️🥐for you.

If anyone is listening (see photo below), they need to hammer home now the "Hamas and Hezbollah are my friends" message. People might be in the right mood to listen now.

The Nations favourite Underdog Hero Nicholas Soames is on Sky, Backing Boris. Remember all the faux horror over the removal of “Churchills Grandson’s” whip? Yeah, me too! 😂

It followed a particularly weird and quite distasteful (not to mention lacking in any facts or statistics) immigration conversation with a Ukip Member who looked a bit like Catherine Tate’s Nan character. 😱 😳

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 09:59

Either way, Gibbo was wrong. Long live the queen. 😉😂 👑

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 10:03

Can we survive a Trump visit RN without him sticking his enormous orange MAGA foot in it?

Ugh... 😩

So glad you posted those tweets Dusty from the woman who works in clinical trials and explained the process. It's really important to understand it costs millions to develop and drug and bring it to market. Not unreasonable that there is some return for the organisations who do the development. But of course that wouldn't fit with Labour's narrative on "all private suppliers to the NHS are evil". Surprise Labour haven't promised the "National Drugs Service" with nationalisation of UK pharma.

With the Jess Phillips tweet about private companies making a dividend off NHS money, I follow someone who noted that often it's pension investments that benefit from dividends. And a quick dig finds that MP's own pension funds are invested into some healthcare companies that are likely to be taking NHS money to provide services and horror manage to pay their investors a dividend. Looks like some Labour MPs need to move their pension funds out if they disagree with the concept so much.

“So glad you posted those tweets Dusty from the woman who works in clinical trials and explained the process. It's really important to understand it costs millions to develop and drug and bring it to market.”

Agreed. Maybe Corbyn plans to nationalise all big pharma to resolve the issue? Even American Pharma? Hmm

AutumnRose1 · 02/12/2019 10:30

Are we there yet?!

Buttered croissant for me please, landlady.

Sorry Lily I don’t know who that is in your picture? I’m probably being really thick, sorry...

On this one though, the question is how much of a return on investment is fair? Sure, it needs to be profitable but not purely motivated by greed. I wouldn't want to see the poorest priced out of good healthcare.

AutumnRose1 · 02/12/2019 11:01

oh of course! Blush

Applepieco · 02/12/2019 11:01

It’s not looking good in the polls today. Sad

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 02/12/2019 11:03

“On this one though, the question is how much of a return on investment is fair?”

I think though, ‘here in lies the rub’, the uncomfortable reality is, if you attempt to suppress the profits these companies make, shareholders pull back, the investment level falls and the motivation to embark on uncosted and hugely expensive new research wains significantly. It’s just not that simple sadly. I guess it could be possible to attempt a global conference investigating price caps to promote fair worldwide prices for drugs, but as each drug varies widely in cost and there are also local currency markets to consider, alongside inward investment, equipment and ingredient costs etc...

nobody benefits from a research retraction imo.

How do you cap the profit? How do you determine who is profiting and how much is churned back into research, new markets opening up, pensions etc... and if you can determine individuals profiting, and penalise them won’t they just move into new markets instead?

It’s very sad to think that a child with Cancer, might be part of an uncomfortable profit chain. But were it not for that profit chain, the drug that child needs might never exist. It would also be nigh on impossible for any government to match the level of private investment into Pharma and research imo.

Apologies if rambling... really tired today!
