Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

💐 Autumn - I had a read
Shitty stuff.

It happens so often to so people who dare to go against the boxes/groupthink ascribed to them

The left are notorious for thinking they 'own' the votes & support of minority groups, especially black, asian & other minority ethnic people.
They're vicious to anyone who goes against the groupthink or who dares to not 'stay in their place'

Priti Patel gets a lot of shit like that, as do Sajid Javid, James Cleverly et al

Foul behaviour

DustyDiamond · 30/11/2019 21:43

Aah - xposted with others

YY to this Belle - "Everything is cool as long as you play the good little minority, but as soon as you do something not deemed appropriate the mask slips"

Sorry you've had to deal with that shit as well 💐

Surely it’s ok to take a moment to separate and appreciate those points and achievements? Without going for the throat?

Well said Epic

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 21:45

@BelleHathor

“ Everything is cool as long as you play the good little minority”

Exactly. And this is the attitude from people who who like to go on about terrible racism is. I honestly found the racism of the old days easier to deal with. I guess I’d rather be stabbed in the front than the back.

Sajid Javid and Sadiq Khan are also dealing with a lot of these comments. I suppose on social media people could just be trolling, but the level of detail some of them give, I think they think they are not racist.

I’ll never forget Sadiq visiting Pakistan and a journo asked him “how does it feel to be home?” He responded politely “home is South London, mate”. The Mayor of London not being taken seriously as a Londoner, because of his skin colour. WTAF.

Epic thank you. Wine

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 21:48

Oh cross posts
Thank you all round

I’m not saying I agree with everything every named individual has said

I’m raging against the fact that people think “coconut” isn’t racist and there’s a box of beliefs I’m supposed to sit in.

DustyDiamond · 30/11/2019 21:48

"All Patel had said to a reporter, when commenting on a leaked UK government document showing that Irish GDP could fall 7pc in the aftermath of a hard Brexit, was: "This paper appears to show the government were well aware Ireland will face significant issues in a no-deal scenario. Why hasn't this point been pressed home during the negotiations? There is still time to go back to Brussels and get a better deal.""

That's what Priti said (from the article Howabout linked to)

Literally struggling to see where she said this:

threatening to starve Ireland into submission?

Or this:

She said it was ok to threaten Ireland with starvation.

Or this:

threatening Ireland with starvation

Or this:

She threatened to starve Ireland given half a chance.

But yeah - let's not let the truth get in the way of a good rumour, eh?!
🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

God Autumn, I’m so sorry you even have to post this. How shit. 💐

So negotiating on the basis that Ireland risks food shortages is ok? Doesn't she know what food shortages caused by Britain mean to Ireland?

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 21:59

If my rant has exposed some fake news, that’s good!

DustyDiamond · 30/11/2019 21:59

It literally doesn't say that

(Unless you insert your own selection of words & delete her words obvs)

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 22:02

Sorry to disagree at so late an hour , Dusty , but the meaning was clear to anyone Irish.

BelleHathor · 30/11/2019 22:02

Thanks All 🥰 This is why I love the Arms , no airs or graces, everyone can chill regardless of background, no Identity politics , dissent allowed, good food and of course memes 😂😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 30/11/2019 22:04

We are so Meme dry at the moment Belle, we really need to step up our game! 😂

I’m holding out for election night I think, don’t want to peak too soon... 😂😂😂

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 22:06

I trust your admiration for Priti Patel based purely on her ethnicity is shared with an admiration for Diane Abbott.

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 22:06

I was thinking yesterday, I should get myself a coconut pendant and just point to it if anyone starts IRL. Last time I had it was on a temp job, you can’t really speak out on a temp job.

BelleHathor · 30/11/2019 22:07

12 more sleeps! Definitely don't want to peak to soom 😂😂😂😂

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 22:08

@bellinisurge

I admire Diane Abbott a great deal. This might be outing to anyone who knows me, but I met her a couple of times - lived in 5 different London boroughs - and as a side note, she made me laugh so much I was seconds away from a “snorting tea out of nose” incident 😂

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 22:09

@AutumnRose1 , then I'm sure she says all sorts of things that are " taken out of context" too.

DustyDiamond · 30/11/2019 22:11

I trust your admiration for Priti Patel based purely on her ethnicity is shared with an admiration for Diane Abbott.

Whilst Diane Abbott isn't relevant to the convo (as she's of the left, she's not typically party to the 'coconut' jibe) i am nonetheless happy to share my views on her

I like her, and admire what she's achieved.
I think she’s been promoted well above her abilities & is shockingly bad as a front bencher but I have a hell of a lot of respect for what she’s achieved as a black woman from her era - she was a proper trailblazer & she's been (and is) a fantastic & prominent inspiration for young black girls across the country I'm sure
Just like for me growing up only ever knowing a female pm was a massive albeit subconscious positive impact

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 30/11/2019 22:12

“I trust your admiration for Priti Patel based purely on her ethnicity is shared with an admiration for Diane Abbott.”

Really Bellini? In this place? To people that have listened to you? And supported you? And taken your points re; Ireland border etc... on board? You are honestly going this low? Cheap.

Why would it not be possible to admire someone’s achievements and not admire all of there political views? Do you honestly think that little of us?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 30/11/2019 22:13

Their. 🤦🏻‍♀️

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 22:14

@bellinisurge

Of course. Politicians’ comments are taken out of context all the time.

Can we have 1975 on the jukebox?

“I found a grey hair in one of my zoots
Like context in a modern debate, I just took it out”.

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 22:15

*the 1975

Sorry

DustyDiamond · 30/11/2019 22:18

A pic to cheer everyone up on St Andrews evening & to temper down the heat whilst simultaneously hotting things up...
