Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

It’s bigger than it looks...

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 14:46

I’m trying not to check news and failing

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-50615808

FFS. On what planet is it okay to try and blackmail the PM over speaking on the BBC after a terror incident?!

SingingLily · 30/11/2019 14:56

"A shameful and abject surrender by BBC management" to graciously allow the PM of this country to speak to the nation about a terrorist incident that resulted in two innocents being murdered and others seriously injured?

A shameful and abject surrender by Ben Bradshaw, more like, and all the other so-called moderate Labour MPs who apparently deplore anti-semitism but are prepared to realise the Chief Rabbi's deepest fears that we are fighting for the very soul of our nation by allowing the possibility of Jeremy Corbyn entering No. 10.

Greater love hath no man than he should lay down his country for his political ambitions, eh Ben? Try putting that on your campaign literature.

Epic, I'm coming round to yours for dinner. That looks amazing!

If you let me over the doorstep, I'll bring you a batch of my homemade mince pies: mincemeat with added brandy and chopped walnuts, in an almond pastry.

Deal?

PS I'm trying to avoid the news too, Autumn, but you are right. It keeps seeping through. A bit like the bagpipes continuously playing in Wee Nippy's head.

OP posts:
Saucery · 30/11/2019 15:16

In what world would you not expect the PM to be able to speak about a terrorist attack on mainstream media? I do wonder what’s going through their tiny minds sometimes.

Epic that cheesecake is well........epic!

DustyDiamond · 30/11/2019 15:31

I'm aghast at many things tbh

Most people, to be fair, are horrified by what happened, supportive of the emergency services, grateful for the bravery of ordinary members of the public, respectful & understanding of the difficult decisions the armed response have to make in a split second and are not trying to weaponise the situation by shoehorning party politics into it all.

Sadly, a small minority are just the opposite - but those people will always be like that I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course the PM should be front & centre at times like this - it's his job!

In other news..... that looks epic, Epic 😍😍

Comradesally · 30/11/2019 16:48

Epic that looks glorious! We had a mad spate of pavlova over summer but never strayed passed fruit and cream, that looks fabulous. Now landlady relentlessly hits us with thoughts of homemade mince pies and almond pastry. ❤️❤️❤️😍.

Does landlady make her own mulled wine....

Also avoiding the news but did see something about margin close again.

Is this going to be the most sensational election night in history?

Or top 3?

The crushed amaretto biscuits and marscepone (sp), won't leave my head 😂😂.

Tanith · 30/11/2019 17:31

"Still annoyed that no-one pointed out Sarah Vine is married to Michael Gove in 2015."

It was common knowledge on Mumsnet.
She had an account on here and was recognised - and outed - as the only poster ever to have a good word for him on the Education boards when he was Education Secretary.

SingingLily · 30/11/2019 19:00

Comradesally, your posts do make me smile but there's a common theme to them...food.

Tell the truth now. You're on a diet, aren't you? Grin

OP posts:
Comradesally · 30/11/2019 19:13

Singing I was going to say actually I'm a not on a diet, I just love food too much.

I fast however, I deliberately don't eat breakfast, micheal mosley blood sugar fasting, I don't miss it at all, have salad or soup for lunch, and then,
go mad in the pm

I love food too much and when no elders are around anymore to make wonderful traditional creations......
I just wish we had someone to make then homemade Grin

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 20:11

Someone called @cathsuff on Twitter doing the things that upset me the most.....I think Priti Patel is really brave. I wish I were that brave.

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 20:40

Why is Priti Patel brave?

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 21:00

@bellinisurge

Because the amount of shit you get if you’re not white and you gold certain views....

Trying copy and paste, if you see her tweet about Priti about 3 hours ago and the replies.....proud Remainers thinking they arent racist and happily referring to us as “coconuts” because HOW DARE WE not think a certain way on account of our skin colour.

twitter.com/cathsuff

XingMing · 30/11/2019 21:02

I am old enough to post traditional recipes, but I didn't think that this was a thread about baking.

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 21:09

She threatened to starve Ireland given half a chance. That's not very brave.

AutumnRose1 · 30/11/2019 21:11

@bellinisurge I’m talking about the principle of holding certain views while not white. It takes courage.

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 21:15

Holding the view that threatening Ireland with starvation is not acceptable whoever you are.
Sorry to spoil the friendly vibe.

yolofish · 30/11/2019 21:17

with you 100% on that one bellini. I think Priti is a horrible woman with really nasty opinions (backed up by her Dear Leader I guess).

bellinisurge · 30/11/2019 21:18

Wow some mangled grammar there ! Soz. Must be the booze.
She said it was ok to threaten Ireland with starvation. That's not ok.

Comradesally · 30/11/2019 21:30

Xingming I'd love some more old fashioned trad recipes 😁but for me it's more having them cooked for Me..

I lost my dp young, so miss that hone cooking and both dp were excellent cooks...

KeithPartridge · 30/11/2019 21:31

Agree with Bellini. Such an evil thing for Patel to say, knowing the role Britain played in the starvation of millions of Irish people during the famine.

BelleHathor · 30/11/2019 21:36

Autumn Fully understand what you are saying about Priti being brave. It's part of what I call benevolent racism from the left and is quite insidious, I've been personally called a "Coconut" or told I speak well for a Black Woman 🤔. Everything is cool as long as you play the good little minority, but as soon as you do something not deemed appropriate the mask slips hence the Coconut comments.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 30/11/2019 21:38

Bellini. Please don’t, Autumn is giving her lived experience (I presume from her posts, sorry if I’ve misunderstood Autumn) and that rightly speaks to her. I get your point, but the crass smack down is not necessary. We have discussed the Important Ireland issues with you at length, and discussed other issues regarding your lived experiences. Autumn is not referring to Priti as a leader and on her politics specifically, but as an Asian Woman, in a difficult world. Surely it’s ok to take a moment to separate and appreciate those points and achievements? Without going for the throat?

howabout · 30/11/2019 21:38

"Priti Patel never for one second suggested starving the Irish into submission, or anything like it, and was far too polite when, finally commenting on the backlash, said that her remarks had been "taken out of context". She would have had every right to call it out for what it was - a manipulative, sinister media-manufactured campaign of character assassination."

www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/eilis-ohanlon-brits-want-to-starve-the-irish-is-the-definition-of-fake-news-37607873.html

yolofish · 30/11/2019 21:39

I dont care what colour or race Priti is, but threatening to starve Ireland into submission? - come on!
