Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

How awful the London incident is, looks as though the police are assuming terror-related.

I missed it, too busy typing my dissertation. On which note, I'd point out that BJ hasn't been in office for long enough to have much history as PM other than negotiating his version of Brexit in Europe. A laughing stock at the FO, true, but a not-bad Mayor of London.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 15:39

He was set up to be ineffective at the FO by Theresa May - as was the Brexit Secretary - because she cut them out of the picture even though it cut directly across their briefs.

He did reduce knife crime when Mayor because he backed stop-and-search. Another effective policy dismantled by TM in search of woke points.

The last time we had a truly effective Home Secretary was Michael Howard. He famously said, "Prison works" and practically doubled the prison population - but yes, the crime rate dropped by something like 16% if memory serves.

Lovely, hot off the remnants of the Goebbels debacle, it’s now being ‘joked’ about that the London bridge incident is a Govt conspiracy. 😡

Ugh. So offensive.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 15:54

Just gone back and read your post properly, Xing, and I think that's a fair assessment.

The party membership voted for Boris because the other serious contender, Jeremy Hunt, was a Remainer and although I think he was genuine in wanting to pursue and deliver Brexit, TM had skewed the pitch for anyone other than a publicly-committed Leaver. The members by that stage were at their wits' end with TM's stultifying style of micro-management which ground everything to an infuriating stasis. The only person who could cut through the gloom was Boris.

Re the plans to nationalise, what I'm not certain is whether John McDonnell has taken into account the pensions liability if all those workers became public sector. That would be a horrendously crushing liability for generations because civil service pensions are unfunded. They are paid from this year's tax take. The current bill is already a burden because the current crop of retirees are still leaving under the previously generous gold-plated index-linked pensions. The slimmed-down versions haven't been around for long enough to see a capping of the bill.

What? On the other thread???

OP posts:
Saucery · 29/11/2019 15:55

Oh no, surely not! That’s just awful.
There is no political mileage or humour to be had out of this whatsoever Sad
Thoughts with everyone involved.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 29/11/2019 15:57

Across two threads. I’ve reported. Ghastly. Several posts and several posters.

DustyDiamond · 29/11/2019 15:59

Assumption=confirmed.

Looks like your work here is done then Arse!

Praise be!!
🙌🙌🙌🙌

Now you can go off elsewhere to fight the good fight against all those who don't conform to rightthink!

Onward!
With the trusty sword of righteous indignation & the shield of sanctimony at your side
#RighteousHero ✊✊✊

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 29/11/2019 16:01

Maybe Arse would prefer to hang out with the Goebbels fans and conspiracy theorists instead. Seeing as we are so dreadful.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 16:02

Across two threads. I’ve reported. Ghastly

I'll repeat what I said the other day.

That thread is a cesspit.

What an awful incident, I hope to god it’s not part of wider attack/s.

🙏 and 💐 to all involved. 😔

Saucery · 29/11/2019 16:03

Truly grim that anyone could think like that.

DustyDiamond · 29/11/2019 16:05

Just heard the news a wee while ago 😟 - yet again emergency services doing amazing work

Will catch up on news properly later when I get home

yolofish · 29/11/2019 16:10

TBH I dont think they were joking so much as saying it had crossed their minds - it crossed mine too, because we seem to be living in Orwell's 1984 crossed with Animal Farm an awful lot of the time.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 29/11/2019 16:14

I don’t care if it was a bloody good hooplah, or just a casual thought in peoples minds. It’s crass and grossly offensive to anyone caught up in this.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 16:15

I don't accept that, Yolofish. A conspiracy involving about a thousand police and other emergency responders? That involves evacuating several thousand passersby in an area already the site of a previous tragic terrorist incident?

Only a tinfoil hatter or a someone with a seriously sick sense of humour would think it. What level does someone have to stoop to, to not just think it but post it online as if it's a joking matter?

OP posts:
SingingLily · 29/11/2019 16:17

I've been involved in serious incidents involving serious injury and also loss of life.

I carried the burden of PTSD for a long time.

It's not a bloody joke. 😡😡😡

OP posts:
Saucery · 29/11/2019 16:18

I don’t accept it either. Denying the Holocaust, 9/11 and the Manchester Arena bombing also ‘crosses the mind’ of some people and it’s disgusting, disrespectful and has no place on MN.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 29/11/2019 16:20

That’s terrible Lily, so sorry, a close family member has complex PTSD from an incident during the the gulf war and a terrible Car crash. It’s an awful awful thing to live with.

Thank you, Epic, and my kindest thoughts to your family member.

“Still have a legacy of insomnia and nightmares.”

😔😘

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 16:35

Breaking news again. The jackknifed lorry was found to have a hoax bomb strapped to it.

Diversion. Clearly a diversion to draw off first responders away from the real scene.

Dear God.

OP posts:
EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 29/11/2019 16:39

Oh god... that’s awful.

Saucery · 29/11/2019 16:54

I cannot be doing with the almost gleeful idiocy of the people on other threads talking about this and coming up with the most ridiculous faux naive questions.
I’m logging out for the night good evening, all.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 29/11/2019 16:56

I don’t blame you Saucery, Night Night, hopefully we will see you tomorrow! Wine
