Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

Yeah but there's, apparently, a proportion of the electorate that think unstatesmanlike is a great look. Trump has shown him how not to be confined by having to appear statesmanlike for the last 3 years.

"The Clash is most relevant to the age group who were in their 20s at the end of the 70s.^

If you were in your twenties in 1976/7 you were too old.

You sure were, and if you're advising us about this point in history, as someone who wasn't born yet, then you're too young.

I was too young. My big sister was 18 and I still remember her bringing back the Pistols Bollocks LP and our dad having a full on melt down.

Tanith · 12/11/2019 21:56

"Coalition of chaos" is the phrase they used in the last election:

Squabbling over money is a red flag when a company or org is breaking up

We are taking legal advice on the matter so cannot comment too much at this stage.

What we will say however is there are many across the UK who have invested in the Brexit Party PLC and demands answers and refunds.

Fast.

HateIsNotGood · 12/11/2019 22:04

Grin continuity I know - I was the eldest during that time too, aged 14/15. I still have the yellow/pink LP - it actually sounds better with more depth in meaning now than it did back then.

As do The Clash, but my top favourite Band of all time, then and now, is The Stranglers. And i like loads, wide-ranging, and many i don't know their names either.

I am troubled by the tea making in the PPB
Do boiling water taps actually providing boiling water as a kettle would ?
Not brewed the bag - put the milk in without determining strength of tea...
Left the bag in
No spoon, how does he get the bag out? Fingers? What does he do with it? Left on desk in drippy, staining heap?

Lack of attention to detail, no forward planning, untidy mind, unconcerned about quality of end result.
All I need to know about Johnson.

Songsofexperience · 12/11/2019 22:07

Yeah but there's, apparently, a proportion of the electorate that think unstatesmanlike is a great look. Trump has shown him how not to be confined by having to appear statesmanlike for the last 3 years.

On that note, I recommend the Trump episode in Netflix's Dirty Money. Very enlightening.

Icantreachthepretzels · 12/11/2019 22:09

That's the one BCF - thanks.

It hasn't aged well - and yet Boris Johnson repeats it practically word for word.

BestIsWest · 12/11/2019 22:11

I was more of a New Wave fan though - been listening a lot to The Jam lately and much of it still feels so relevant.

Somethings happening here today

Do boiling water taps actually providing boiling water as a kettle would ?

Yes - up to that point everything is OK. But from there on out it is a car crash and I can't even bear to look at it. Milk in before the teabag has even been stirred - never mind taken out. And then he still doesn't stir it. Just milk and teabag floating separately in a cup of boiling water. I feel a bit queasy.

If he doesn't know how to make a cup of tea - why on earth did he have himself make a cup of tea in his 'man of the people' PPB? Only to prove he isn't like us at all!

ContinuityError · 12/11/2019 22:14

Hate my sister was the Queen Bee - she ran the records section at Woolies every Saturday. No disco allowed (although she loved seeing Diana Ross at the Houston Rodeo a good few years later).

Not many leaders get their own country's flag wrong - and survive
But BJ is Teflon
Imagine the screaming headlines if Corbyn ever does that

https://metro.co.uk/2019/11/12/boris-johnson-sends-distress-signal-voters-upside-flag-11085820/?

Boris Johnson's general election ‘distress signal’ has been sent around the world as his bungling team appeared to fly the Union flag upside down

An eagle-eyed viewer pointed out that video footage from the Prime Minister’s election launch speech showed the flag fluttering the wrong way round.
But it also appears as though the flag is upside down in the Conservative Party’s official ‘Get Brexit Done’ placards.

The placards were waved by Tory supporters during Mr Johnson’s speech to voters, and will likely appear throughout the election race.

Flying the flag upside down is famously a coded signal for ‘danger and distress’ and is banned across the UK

yolofish · 12/11/2019 22:20

Sometimes I yearn for a nice MN grammar school debate, just for a bit of peace and quiet...

ContinuityError · 12/11/2019 22:23

I’d just add to that, Diana Ross was incredible - how many disco stars do you know that would kick off their high heels to run across the (completely poo laden) arena to meet the audience?

catdoctor · 12/11/2019 22:23

Maybe the tea making will be Johnson’s bacon sandwich

QueenOfThorns · 12/11/2019 22:25

pretzels you would be traumatised if you ever saw me make tea if you think BJ makes it like an animal Grin

A farmer in Bishop Auckland says Boris Johnson should go to jail on the BBC.

We are in new territory now.

Hilarious Grin Can't they get one thing right?

ClashCityRocker · 12/11/2019 22:33

Oddly enough hate, we have a tradition of listening to the stranglers on Christmas day whilst we open the presents.
