Apparently the usual landlady over ordered on Bar nuts on the last thread. Just step over them if you find them here, as we haven’t had a chance to clear them up yet.

Welcome to all friendly parties!

Sorry for rambling and repeating, I’m in bed with no lights on and no glasses! Lol.

Thank you dusty for the other links. Is there a place I can find the main advantages of Brexit? I think the arguments have been rather lost. Thanks

DustyDiamond · 05/11/2019 23:43

Wynona I can't actually give you impartial answers, sorry 😐

I've typed & deleted loads just now trying to reply to you but I cannot stay away from bias even though I tried so hard 😳

For me, this election is all about Brexit. That's why the Tories are getting my vote this time.

I like BJ's transition deal & I am mad as hell that Parliament has dicked around so much trying to block Brexit from happening.

Tbh I'd have likely voted Tory this time anyway even without the Brexit question.
I'm a proper floating voter, but the other parties have turned me right off at the moment.

A smaller party I'm quite drawn to is SDPUK - they seem to have got the balance pretty much right for me between left & right policies - but for this election at least they're not for me as Brexit is too important to me.

Sorry I can't be less biased 😳

DustyDiamond · 05/11/2019 23:48

There's a website called Briefings for Brexit which is a fact based pro-Brexit page

It has contributions from academics & economists etc

I've not looked at it myself for a while now but it has quite a lot of info on there re the pros & cons of Brexit

It's def worth a look

briefingsforbrexit.com/

Wynona · 05/11/2019 23:53

Lol. I am not looking for unbiased views Wink. I want to be well informed. I have never really tried to understand a brexit point of view. I am hoping that you can help me. I am so worried about Brexit and I want to know more.

Wynona · 05/11/2019 23:57

Brilliant. The coffee is good here!

Walkingdeadfangirl · 06/11/2019 00:08

The Boris deal is the hardest of hard Brexits to Labour on the left and not even Brexit, just remaining for the Brexit party on the right. So I agree with Dusty it is just about right in the middle.

It allows us to do trade deals, takes back control of most of our money and laws. Gives a good deal to N.I. to protect its historical issues. It upholds democracy. And it can actually be done by 31st of Jan if Boris wins, so ends the uncertainty.

I believe Boris to be very moderate and if Brexit was out of the way I expect it would be a very progressive one nation government.

Oh and a plus side would be that if Boris wins, Corbyn has promised to step down Grin

SingingLily · 06/11/2019 07:54

Lol. I am not looking for unbiased views . I want to be well informed.

Morning, Wynona, I'm new to the Arms but it's a friendly place and in-between the serious posts and spirited discussions, I really enjoy the banter.

I'm a Leaver too so like others, not unbiased. However, if you are looking for more information, I'd also suggest ConservativeHome (slightly more Leave than Remain, which reflects the country, and quite clear-eyed about the pros and cons) and Brexit Central which offers articles by Leave lawyers, economists, academics and trade experts, but in nice plain terms.

Like Epicwaffle, I don't think Boris's deal is perfect but the hard fact is that Theresa May made such a botch of her three-and-a-bit years of negotiations that all he could do was salvage something from the wreckage. You might have heard of Martin Howe QC, Chair of Lawyers for Britain. He is a leading authority in EU law and his article in the Telegraph earlier this week took apart Nigel Farage's claim that Boris's deal is not a true Brexit. It is, although there are hangovers from Theresa's mess that we could well have done without.

The article is well worth a read as it sets out clearly the information you are seeking.

If Martin Howe says it's Brexit, that's good enough for me.

XingMing, Boris is socially liberal too. He championed gay marriage before it was ever on the Conservative horizon and he gave early support to campaigners against FGM and forced marriage. People often throw the "burkas as letterboxes" jibe at him but anyone who actually read the article at the time would tell you that he was defending women's rights to wear the burka if they so wished. Belgium and France had just banned the burka and there had been ugly incidents. Boris argued that it was not the place of the state to dictate to women what they could or could not wear. As I said, he is socially liberal.

Hi,

Just popping in to say that we'd really appreciate everyone being given a chance to have their say, even if their views aren't the same as yours.

The issues are only going to become more intense as we head for an election, so it would be a shame if some posters feel pushed out of the debate. Smile

Epicwaffle · 06/11/2019 08:23

Just watched the Stephen Pound vid @DustyDiamond! a seemingly decent guy, a definite loss to parliament. Hopefully, if Labour do end up retaking Ealing North, it will be with someone as thoughtful and moderate as him. Not some Momentum fruitcake. (Of course, there’s always Tory... WinkGrin).

“Just popping in to say that we'd really appreciate everyone being given a chance to have their say, even if their views aren't the same as yours. “

@soniamumsnet

If you read through the majority of our posts
And threads. That is precisely what happens here. Certain posters, who have previously launched personal attacks on other posters and shitpoasted and goaded about regulars here and across other threads, Are not exactly welcomed with open arms for obvious reasons. Those posts may be deleted now of course, or not in some cases. but they and the bullying behaviour are remembered by the regulars nonetheless.

These specific posters are not ‘pushed out of the debate’ at all, they are already having the debate all over the other countless other (anti) brexit threads. And, if they come in ‘peace and love’ to coin a mumsnet phrase. We are more than happy to engage.

Thanks Sonia.

I was a little puzzled by the post from @soniamumsnet but assumed that it was just a general friendly reminder to keep things civil in the run-up to the election....so presumably the same general friendly reminder will be posted on the Westminsterenders thread too? Hmm

XingMing · 06/11/2019 08:45

Morning all!, just popping in for a quick coffee. I know BoJo is liberal on social issues, and rate him for that, and he seems to have been a decent mayor. As PM, I think (hope) he'll lead a one nation Tory party, if he succeeds. I am very sad to see so many senior women leaving politics and want that tide reversed. However, that may take the whole issue being laid to rest so a solid clear result on December 13 would be very welcome. I shall vote for him, and my local MP (who is female, but a bit of a wet lettuce) who seems to fear canvassing here although not enthusiastically. We're a fairly safe seat still AFAIK.

Epicwaffle · 06/11/2019 08:46

@SingingLily was literally just thinking the same.

They are bullying people off the thread something rotten over there! and I wouldn’t dare post there as I would get eaten alive! So if anyone feels ‘pushed out of the debate’ etc... Confused

Heck, we have even picked up some of their refugees and comforted them with a good friendly nature and beverages. Brew

I honestly don’t get it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tories playing their usual dirty tricks.

‘The Conservative Party took an interview from @GMB this morning. They edited it to add on the last shot in which Keir Starmer looks stumped. But that didn't happen. In the original Keir Starmer immediately answered the question.’

Epicwaffle · 06/11/2019 09:02

Apologies @soniamumsnet

I see that you have posted there too. I’ll get my coat... GrinBlushFlowers

I'm not sure you could describe this as an open and friendly pub. I feel like i am treading on eggshells when I post here.
It's certainly less crowded Wink

Yeah! I saw that @Parker231, somewhat of a dick move from Tory HQ. I don’t like behaviour like that from any side. It’s not a fair debate otherwise. Kier is fully entitled to be fairly represented.

I don’t know why Bellini? We are always friendly if spirited and engage in banter with you?

Many times we have said that we like your openness and ability to take both sodes on board, despite being fiercely opposed?

And let’s not forget how you single handedly changed Tory Policy on the negotiated deal. Wink

SingingLily · 06/11/2019 09:13

Just caught Jezza on the news. He says the Labour Party are "for the 99%".

I never thought of myself as being in the 1% but it seems I am Shock And it's a bit crowded in here Wink

Epicwaffle · 06/11/2019 09:17

Crikey. If I’m in the 1%, can someone please tell me where I can collect my Yacht and Private Jet? I feel a little short changed here.

On that note, I did win a £20 on a lottery scratch card yesterday, so I must be on the up and up! Grin

The irony being that Jeremy Corbyn is only really popular in Islington - which is probably one of the richest areas of the UK.

SingingLily · 06/11/2019 09:25

Sshh, Epicwaffle, you'll have John McDonnell on your doorstep demanding you hand over £19 of your "unearned income".

Who in their right mind would want JMcD on their doorstep?
