Apparently the usual landlady over ordered on Bar nuts on the last thread. Just step over them if you find them here, as we haven’t had a chance to clear them up yet.

Welcome to all friendly parties!

I like Lindsay 😊

He choked me up when he was talking about his daughter 😟

I think we've a few lurkers Hate - there's a hardcore few of us but quite a few that drop in & out

I'm avoiding most things politics at the mo as it got a bit too consuming over all the twists & turns of the last couple of months - need a break!

Hi Xing! Brew

Not a double-shot, flat white with semi-skim milk sadly - just builders tea 😉

SingingLily · 04/11/2019 21:00

Hi XingMing - and thank you!

Epicwaffle · 04/11/2019 21:02

Tequila for hate and a complicated Coffee for Xing! Welcome to our cozy pub!

I’m good with Hoyle, it’s so sad about his daughter, what a difficult moment for him.

I think (hope) he will be what he says!

Trust the SNP with that ‘ode to joy’ bollocks though, taking the shine off the moment. Poor taste joke imo!

XingMing · 04/11/2019 21:02

Builder's tea is also great, made with Yorkshire bags?

Epicwaffle · 04/11/2019 21:06

We can do a fab builders tea! Whatever you fancy! Brew

DustyDiamond · 04/11/2019 21:07

Gutted that Blackford wasn't there 😂

Yorkshire bags, hand crafted by Sean Bean

HateIsNotGood · 04/11/2019 21:15

oooh...can I have some of dusty's tea please? Made by Sean Bean. Why Mr S Bean (as differentiated from the other Mr Bean) is still so appealing is one of those little mysteries of life.

time4chocolate · 04/11/2019 21:16

Evening all 🍷☕️
I’m on a political sabbatical at the mo but very much lurking, enjoying the read and 😂 at some of the earlier posts.

I’m pleased Lindsey Hoyle got the job👍🏻.

XingMing · 04/11/2019 21:19

Thanks all Grin.

Epicwaffle · 04/11/2019 21:21

I don’t really agree Hate.

We have had a lot of good, open and friendly (if at times terse) discussions on these threads with people from all sides of the spectrum, it gets messy when people throw PA’s around, for obvious reasons.

I know there must be many lurkers, but I think part of the problem, naturally is that we are hidden away in a dusty corner of mumsnet.

Also, I think many people have disengaged from conversation around this topic on all of the brexit threads, as the debate is so toxic and frequently gets pretty nasty. Those of us who are left are pretty defensive for obvious reasons. Others just tend to understandably post hide and never venture to the brexit section again.

Sure, there’s a leave slant here in the pub, but to be fair, this is the only place on MN that we seem to be allowed that, so if it comes over as an echo chamber then I don’t really know what to say 😬 because it’s not intentional and never has been. We have always openly welcomed friendly Remainers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi time4. Would you like a quick shot of tequila and some tea made by Sean Bean? I know they don't go well together apparently, but in this case I'll happily choke.

You can blame Dusty if it doesn't work out.

Epicwaffle · 04/11/2019 21:25

Apologies though @hate if I misunderstood your earlier post.

HateIsNotGood · 04/11/2019 21:25

Of course I agree with you epic - just making sure we're checking our edges as well as our seams.

Limer · 04/11/2019 21:30

I frequented the 2016 Referendum threads, and then the early Brexit Arms, but drifted away when not much was happening. Now it's all game on again, I've returned for the booze and banter Grin

Nice one Epic with your donation! Brilliant thanks message from Boris Grin

Who is good to follow on Twitter? I'm a newbie on there.

DustyDiamond · 04/11/2019 22:20

I follow heaps of different folk on twitter now Limer

I started with all the political journalists and spread out from there looking at different people that were suggested follows

I follow the different polling companies as well

HateIsNotGood · 04/11/2019 22:51

I follow no one, I check no one, I know what I think and my feelz.
I like BJ's deal and just want to get on with it.
Thefore I will be voting Conservative in December's GE.
Nothing that anyone says or does will change that.

The next GE after Dec 2019 is a different story altogether.

DustyDiamond · 04/11/2019 23:00

The next GE after Dec 2019 is a different story altogether.

Yep

I'm going Tory this time definitely.

I'll watch the campaign with interest but I'm not persuadable

Next time though, my vote is entirely up for grabs

2Rebecca · 04/11/2019 23:09

Agree. Glad Lindsay got the Speaker job. I watched the woman who was a deputy take the chair in the election debate and she got thrown by a late amendment by a lib demmer and didn't know what to do and handed the chair back to Bercow. It didn't inspire confidence
I voted remain hut have f gg ad enough of kicking the can down the road and the institutional paralysis that goes with it. I'd have been happy with May's deal but Boris's is fine too. If Labour win it will just be endless dithering

Limer · 05/11/2019 08:43

Thanks for the Twitter recommendations Dusty political journalists and polling companies are now being followed! The polls are very interesting, there are so many people who don't know, haven't made up their minds, voting tactically or are planning some kind of protest vote.

I'm pleased Lindsay Hoyle is the new Speaker too.

Morning all. Brew Cake to celebrate Speaker Hoyle.

I watched Newsnight last night and Carwyn Jones and co starting to talk about Welsh Indy and rUK being unsustainable without Scotland was a bit of a wake up call.

Didn't get bothered by the 2015 campaign of Ed in Nippy's pocket but now a Grand coalition of malcontents would be worst of all outcomes imo.

Very weird to see people like the Resolution Foundation critiquing Conservatives for fiscal imprudence per BBC article yesterday- just shows how deep neo-liberalism is embedded on the left and right.

Morning everyone!

Yes, it can get testy in here at times! Lol.

I saw that Bot thing, hilarious, and believe it may have even been posted in earnest elsewhere, missing the point a little... Grin

Anyway,
Apparently, the almighty JC is going to attempt to appeal to leave voters by having a People’s vote within 6 months to sort the issue once and for all. Hmm

I am actually a little curious on this issue. Obviously we know there is a significant contingent of remain voters who welcome a peoples vote, it’s quite clear there is ‘some’ strong feeling on this from ‘some’ factions of the remain side. However, has anyone ever come across a leave voter that feels that a peoples vote would be a good or fair option? I certainly haven’t, but I live in a bit of a leave bubble, so I appreciate that some may have a different opinion.

My personal view, is that, if the PV argument is that the first ref, was poorly executed (a not entirely unreasonable argument.) then attempting to ‘fix’ it by running yet another poorly executed one would be a fools errand. The reason I believe that PV would be poorly executed, is that there would be so much dissent within the ranks, over what the options could be, (they already can’t agree according to leaked reports) and that we would probably end up with ballot options that were spilt in favour of either remain or (highly unlikely) leave and we don’t really get a true or fair picture of the electoral viewpoint, thereby rendering it either pointless or even more divisive.

Thoughts?

To clarify, Re my pp, I don’t mean leavers who have changed their minds, as technically that makes them remainers now. I specifically mean leavers who still want to leave.
