It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

One of the rules of canvassing is not to waste time on those that are 100% set in their viewpoint (there will usually be about 20% in that category) ..... Wink

Bodoni · 31/10/2019 08:55

Can I just ask about tactical voting? Have tactical voting sites been listed here already? The only one I know is Best for Britain's www.getvoting.org/ and there seem to be problems - www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/30/tactical-voting-could-deliver-remain-victory-in-election-study Thanks! (I’m in a safe Tory seat - they recommend Libdem who at least have a candidate, unlike Labour so far, but Labour is usually well ahead of the LDs here.)

Hoooo · 31/10/2019 08:57

Tactical voting all the way :)
Solidarity ✊

Shame about the proxy vote Sad But Misti could still act as a go-between for those that do have the right to vote and/or take postal votes over to the UK. Smile

bellinisurge · 31/10/2019 09:00

Mummmy. You make this grammatical error with every post you do. It's not a typo. So thanks for the biscuit and learn how to write your properly.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 09:02

At times Misti I do, but there are reasons I still hold hope, elements of what I want are already in play as far as socialism is concerned but the direction of travel is completely wrong we currently have socialism for the rich, I think young people, much more global than previous generations due to social media, the ability to travel and the fact that they grown up under unfair austerity, are going to be the key to these policies Labour are now touting, I hope itll be this year but I've hoped that before, but if the direction of Travel by the young is more towards a civic and moral duty to people and the enviroment then its only matter of time, if the Tories get in for another 5 years I'm unlikely to get to see it in my life time especially if we No Deal and then meds become scarce and even further cuts to the NHS

Sorry for the lengthy word salad reply Misti Blush

TheElementsSong · 31/10/2019 09:03

ISTR mummmmy has repeatedly informed MN that she had a terrible life on the brink of poverty and there is no help available and all services have been destroyed and there was nothing left to lose and in fact burning down the whole country is therefore worth it. And that's why she didn't just vote for Brexit, but has always intended a No Deal Crash Out because surely any change is better than aforementioned terribleness.

And now it turns out she voted Tory in the first place, thus causing the widespread situation of terrible lives on the brink of poverty and no help available and all services destroyed and nothing left to lose Confused

Violetparis · 31/10/2019 09:05

bellini I worry about the Labour Leave areas too. Many of my family in the North East are life long Labour voters who voted Leave and won't be voting for them this time. I worry that this has been underestimated by those in Labour shouting the loudest for another referendum.

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 09:06

😂😂

You can’t trust the Tories on a word they say."

My colleague said yesterday she didn't believe that people still wanted to leave...she assumed they had all changed their minds after the utter train wreck of the last few years. I said, Yeah, you would think that, but unfortunately....

Bodoni · 31/10/2019 09:09

Tactical voting sites please anyone? Apart from Getvoting? Thanks!

Listen. You can hear it. The thud of dark money entering UK bank accounts from BVI, Cayman and Nevis. You can hear all that personal data being loaded up from Mississippi to St Petersburg. The purveyors of the digital dark arts would happily replace democracy with oligarchy

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 09:14

violet The problem is that Labour have to hang onto the 70% of their 2015 voters who are Remainers,
or they will be in even worse trouble
We saw how they haemhorraged votes to the LDems & Green at the EPs

It does look like Remainer Tories will mostly vote Tory, especially the politically active ones,
So it may come down to whether Labour Leavers show the same party loyalty

mummmy2017 · 31/10/2019 09:14

Sorry but never trusted Labour.
The latest headlines of their wish list, plus who would be PM and they are on too a loser.
If you can't change my mind and yes I am someone who missed out on getting ahead in life, due to children and deaths. Then how do you intend to sell labour to other swing voters. I would have voted to David, but not Ed.

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 09:19

People who suffer terribly from Tory policies on benefits and the NHS may still choose to vote for them
and we should respect them for putting their principles over their personal interests

.... but I do have problems respecting those who then keep complaining how hard this makes their life

  • are they unaware what Tory policies are, or do they consider themselves a special case deserving of benefits, whereas noone else is ?
JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 09:20

The latest headlines of their wish list

I mean who want a fair wage, or affordable rent, or affordable childcare, or a well funded social care program for the elderly, or more homes to buy or rent, who wants to scrap universal credit because it working so well for disabled and vulnerable people, who after all want their utilities to be affordable?

Absolute fucking monsters they are [eye roll]

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/10/2019 09:21

I wonder if it’s a bit more complicated than that though, violet.

Most of the leave voters I know aren’t planning to vote Tory or Brexit party. 1 will vote labour, most of the rest are going for an anti-brexit independent candidate. I suspect the other two might not bother voting. If they do I’d definitely won’t be for a party with Boris or Farage leading it.

There’s huge potential for this to turn into an almighty mess. Or an even bigger mess than we’re already in.

Basilpots · 31/10/2019 09:22

Bodoni I wouldn’t worry too much about the tactical voting websites at the moment the situation is ‘fluid’ they will be better nearer the time.

Best for Britain didn’t have a recommendation for me at home constituency yet.

Be wary of any website using only 2017 data this election is very different. We don’t even know who the candidates are in some constituencies parties have until the 14th of November to list them. Where the BXP stand will have an effect as will any remain pacts made, Greens have stood down in seats before Lib Dem’s aren’t standing against Dominic Grieve.

mummmy2017 · 31/10/2019 09:24

The renationalised of untilities is going to hit your private pensions hard.
Are you ok with this.
National debt will go up.
And as has always happened, once labour have bleed the country dry, the Electorate votes the Tory party in to sort it out, and they get hated.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 09:24

Can I ask a favour of our usual posters, because of the amount of ploppers were expecting over the next 6 weeks could you forego any namechanges, no worries if you cant just thought Id ask this place is going to get confusing as hell with ploppers plus name changes Grin

Violetparis · 31/10/2019 09:24

I know BigChoc, I just hope my fears for a Labour wipeout in parts of the North are unfounded. I will feel sad if the former mining community where I'm from votes in a Tory MP.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 09:26

National debt will go up.

It already has massively

And as has always happened, once labour have bleed the country dry, the Electorate votes the Tory party in to sort it out, and they get hated.

Thats the trope isnt it, inaccurate as fuck but a trope nonetheless

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 09:26

Well, Labour policies would benefit those at the bottom of the heap and those who want to climb out

  • I was surprised when Poster000 listed them that they mostly sounded sensible or at least well-meaning. Maybe they locked Corbyn in the loo while someone else wrote them !

Tory policies would benefit the very well-off - if you've a million or more, they're definitely your team

LDems look somewhere in between economically - their main policy is Revoke
and Greens of course prioritise climate change measures

So, choices for everyone there
and if you live in Sctotland or Wales, then you have the nationalist option too

Violetparis · 31/10/2019 09:26

Thanks for your post Rafals.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 09:28

Maybe they locked Corbyn in the loo while someone else wrote them

FFS I'm not meant to laugh at that Grin
