Quite coincidentally I too have been in negotiations today regarding the pubs licence and it's good news here as well, a deal has been agreed!!

There were no amendments or legal objections put forward so a shiny new licence has been issued and normal service can be resumed Smile

Same rules apply.

Now let's hope Saturday's proceedings can go ahead without the usual dicking around and that what has been nigh on impossible during the last 3 years, a majority, can be achieved otherwise I feel we are off to hell in a handcart!

First drink is on the house 🍻🍷🍻🍷Cheers

The deal wasn’t exactly in the best of health to start with. In hindsight, refusing to vote on it if Letwin passed might turn out to be a mistake. They might just have got it over the line.

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 16:11

But they can't vote on it until all the legislation has passed. Isn't that the point?

Sunnyuplands · 19/10/2019 16:11

What a waste of bleeding time.

Bloody hell... And so it goes on.

namechanger2022 · 19/10/2019 16:12

For = 322 Against = 306 (Won by 8)

Either I am going mad or your Maths is wrong Dusty! Won by 16 isn't it??

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 16:13

8 people voted for. If they'd voted against if would have been tied. Presumably. This is one of the few things that does make sense.

darkcloudsandrainstorms · 19/10/2019 16:20

Now for the March on the amendment. Or is that a conclusive margin.

What are the democracy rules now ?

namechanger2022 · 19/10/2019 16:21

OK, I see what Dusty means. Ta.

time4chocolate · 19/10/2019 16:24

Agree with Howabout and Dusty it certainly looks like the numbers aren't going to be there now to pass the deal, particularly if any amendments are tacked on, the ERG for one were quite clear on that.

So, after another parliamentary debacle, on a scale of 1-10 how pissed off must the EU be.

And the next call is theirs.

No deal is now very much back on the cards I would think.

Wasn't this while thing designed to prevent no deal?

DustyDiamond · 19/10/2019 16:37

Wasn't this while thing designed to prevent no deal?

According to Letwin, the blundering thundercunt, yes.

Caroline Flint has the measure of the Brexit-blockers though.

From her twitter:

The Letwin Amendment was a result of the Benn Act not expecting a UK/EU WA Deal back today thereby triggering an extension to 31 Jan. This was a panic measure to reinsert the 3 month delay for one reason only to thwart a deal. The public want an orderly Brexit this doesn’t help.

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 16:39

Hmm. I don't see hoe one follows from the other really. There isn't a logical link

bellinisurge · 19/10/2019 16:40

There's no reason why all the appropriate legislation won't pass to support this Deal. It's just that MPs didn't trust Johnson enough to agree to the deal before the appropriate enabling legislation had passed. The Deal could be agreed and then "Whoops", the enabling legislation didn't get through on time so "Oops, No Deal. Sorry and all that ".
Letwin made it clear he will support the government on the deal. He just didn't trust them to avoid a No Deal loop hole. He may have got the ERG onside by promising them the loophole.

DustyDiamond · 19/10/2019 16:40

Basically, they were all smug about the Benn surrender act but they spectacularly underestimated BJ's ability to bring a deal forward.

Because he did, they had to pass something to undermine the proffered deal so that they could get their extension & use it to block Brexit entirely or bring a 2nd ref.

The Letwin cop-out did this.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 16:41

What Letwin did was prevent BoZo getting agreement for the deal but then dilly dallying with the necessary legislation to implement it meaning that we still no deal anyway. It wasn't anything to do with Benn as it is a separate issue.

DustyDiamond · 19/10/2019 16:42

He may have got the ERG onside by promising them the loophole.

The ERG were explicit that they would support the deal right through until passed entirely providing it was not amended.

bellinisurge · 19/10/2019 16:42

Why is it a cop out if Letwin said he would support the deal? He said specifically that this is where the different supporters of the Letwin Amendment part ways now it has been passed.

Snowy111 · 19/10/2019 16:43

Bellinsurge, that must be the reason that BJ has chosen to delay the vote - he must have promised the ERG the chance of no deal

DustyDiamond · 19/10/2019 16:43

It wasn't anything to do with Benn as it is a separate issue.

My sweet summer child...

It was everything to do with the Benn Act

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 16:43

What I find fascinating is how people can see what happened in 2 totally different ways. It's a really interesting psychological study in a way.

Snowy111 · 19/10/2019 16:43

... and they would withdraw support without it

DustyDiamond · 19/10/2019 16:44

Why is it a cop out if Letwin said he would support the deal?

As with all things Letwin, he meant well with one thing but unleashed something quite different.

bellinisurge · 19/10/2019 16:44

I wouldn't trust the ERG with my dinner money and, it appears neither does Letwin.
DUP don't trust them either. This is the consequence of bridge burning not bridge building.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 16:44

Don't be do bloody patronising, Dusty. You're the one who doesn't get it, not me!

This. Is. A. Separate. Issue.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 16:45

You've told me you're a woman before, Dusty, but you don't half come across as male! It's bizarre.

DustyDiamond · 19/10/2019 16:47

Don't be do bloody patronising, Dusty.

😂
It was a fucking joke! Get over yourself ffs

You're the one who doesn't get it, not me!

Nope! It's really you who doesn't get it...

This. Is. A. Separate. Issue.

The. Issues. Are. Inextricably. Linked.
