Westministenders: Slow News Fake News

Things have been slow whilst we are in proroguation, ahead of next weeks Queen's Speech and the EU summit.

We've been in full spin mode, from the likes of the far right and an unnamed source at No.10.

People seem to be waking up to the reality that its highly unlikely we will get a deal now, unless something significant. And No.10 has worked out the NI problem. FINALLY.

Anyway, if you have a little time this week and you are interested in the history of where technology change and fake news meet and how where we are now is merely things repeating themselves, Ian Hislop's Fake News: A True History, is essential viewing.

I really feel strongly this is stuff that should be being taught in schools somehow as its what protects us from extremism.

Irish media reporting this as likely that NI staying in customs union.

Wasn’t this suggested in the first place ??

The Brexit equivalent of traipsing round town all day only to go back and buy the first pair of shoes you tried on ??Confused

I have been thinking of these guys today and the wider people they represent.

I have been thinking of these guys today and the wider people they represent.

Have seen Hardeep Singh Koli a couple of times, and it's wonderful how Scottish he is Grin

And I loved the Incredible Spice Men - but no more so than when they visited Edinburgh, and Tony Singh proudly shows off his home town - and they visit an old firm game ....

And this is rather excellent too.

DGRossetti · 10/10/2019 17:49

Thanks Basilpots and dreichsky

...

you see it's stories like that which inspire me, and make me proud to be British, and want to cuddle the whole union to my bosom as I realise that everything will be OK, and the good and light in us all will always defeat the bad and the dark. Yes, it's fascinating to know about WW2 etc etc, and the incredible sacrifices made by all. But at the end of the day - for me - its stories like those which allow those sacrifices to make sense.

But then I look at the destruction, devastation and sheer spite that seems to ooze from every Brexiter/Brexiteer pore at times, and it makes me so fucking tetchy. I really could crush a grape.

Is it wine o'clock yet ?

BXP reasoning for voting against measures to combat Russian propaganda.

Westministenders: Slow News Fake News
dreichsky · 10/10/2019 17:53

I was never prouder than when Katie Hopkins started stirring up racial hatred against the Syrian Refugees in Rothesay (following an awful event) and was roundly told to get tae fuck by Islanders.
(Just want to be super clear it turned out refugees had nothing to do with the event in question)

LizzieSiddal · 10/10/2019 17:56

Small businesses appreciate all the help we can get but to be honest we’d rather you just didn’t crash the economy, or increase red tape, and create barriers to trade, or disrupt our supply chains.

Agree with you Basil. I've had two letters in the last week about what I need to do to "Get Ready For Bollox Brexit". I screwed the first one up and threw it in the binBlush.
We aren't planning to do any business with the EU this year so I'm ignoring it all, in the hope there will be a deal at some point. I feel so sorry for those who do export/import, the amount of Red Tape looks atrocious.

JeSuisPoulet · 10/10/2019 17:56

Readers Digest is still going albeit not quite as good as I remember it when my grandmother used to get it. Lots of advertisements and fairly obvious reports and not as much in depth info sadly.

ListeningQuietly · 10/10/2019 17:57

Basil
Why do the BXP think the Russian link has been discredited ?
Its getting more reinforced by the day

DG totally with you.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 10/10/2019 18:03

The brexit arms seem to think things are looking up. I'm not seeing anything new.

BirdandSparrow · 10/10/2019 18:05

pmk

BigChocFrenzy · 10/10/2019 18:05

My disgust for Hatie Hopkins reached overload a few years ago over her description of migrants as "cockroaches",
but she keeps trying to exceed her previous record for vileness

The media still court her - it's all about the ads / clicks

btw, I suppose I am a migrant, like Misti, MissClimpson and a few others
Do I count as a cockroach - I'm mixed race, so probably of the genus Roachus Chocus

BigChocFrenzy · 10/10/2019 18:07

Dmitry Grozoubinski@DmitryOpines

At today's ‪*@TheIo*‬D event‪,
@clarejosa‬ shared how difficult small & micro businesses are finding Brexit prep.

Any politician claiming Brexit will be easy should be locked alone in a room with a laptop and challenged to prepare a small business's post-Brexit trade paperwork.

Basilpots · 10/10/2019 18:08

I know Listening I’m not sure they even care anymore.

Lizzie it’s just so frustrating. And that website it utter pish. Just sends you round
in circles. And as for the tariff chart you could spend a day working out all those rates. One of our customers deals with chicken and it’s different rates for whole birds, and different cuts it’s ridiculous.

prettybird · 10/10/2019 18:30

I'm an African immigrant - do I count as a cockroach?

But I'm white and from South Africa so am probably exempted from her vile poison.

The fact that if we hadn't been coming in under a (closure already announced) Commonwealth scheme, we'd probably still have had to come as a political asylum seeker (Dad already had a police file on him, thanks to my godfather "converting" him so that he saw the evil of apartheid) Shock. And if we hadn't been a middle class family who liked to travel and who therefore naturalised and got UK passports as soon as possible, we'd have been in the same situation as the Windrush generation (we arrived in the UK in 1964).

The "hostile environment", which validates the poison that the likes of that vile woman spreads (I refuse to name check her), gets me soooo angry AngryAngryAngry

Hoooo · 10/10/2019 18:43

Oh dear...
Has Hatie been on the ketamine again?..

MockersthefeMANist · 10/10/2019 18:43

Jeremy Hunt
What a silly fellow

missclimpson · 10/10/2019 18:43

Actually I sometimes think the worst insult in the whole Brexit saga is "expat pensioner". I think I would rather be a cockroach.

prettybird · 10/10/2019 18:48

Jeremy Hunt is proving himself worthy of his rhyming slang nickname Angry

Arrogant Cunt Angry

Hoooo · 10/10/2019 18:52

missclimpson Grin

WaynettaSlobOnTheSchoolRun · 10/10/2019 18:56

Hoooo the hospital gave me a fuckton of ketamine when they reset my broken dislocated ankle. I didn't recognise my own body and thought that me and my baby daughter were one consciousness but I still didn't spew vile racist hatebollocks. Ketamine is offended for being blamed Grin
