Brexit Arms - Pop Up

Well I’m going to have a crack at this Landlady business and I’ve opened a pop up pubSmile.

Rules are:
Anything brexit related is up for discussion and even not Brexit related if you feel the need (so if you want to discuss Haemoroids that’s ok too Wink).

I’m ok with a bit of arseyness (it’s an emotive subject) but if you go full monty in here I reserve the right to withhold all alcoholic beverages.

I have reserved a quiet table for MNHQ if they want to pop in for a quiet drink (Happy Hour is 6-7pmSmile).

Haven’t properly caught up yet with today’s Brexit news yet but looks like we are finally facing end game, that said still plenty of days left for high jinks and holidays.

Anyone have any views on how they think the next few days will play out are welcome to voice here.

First drinks are on the house WineWine 🍻 Cheers

Agree walking I'm reminded of that age old saying act in haste repent at leisure.

The whole 3.5 years has been one massive failure by leavers, at vast expense to this country, to articulate a viable way to a position which is not worse than the position we already occupy as a member state of the EU. Time to revoke and get back to real life.

time4chocolate · 16/10/2019 21:05

Time to revoke and get back to real life
😂😂😂😂 (I take it that was a joke).

How many people on here supported WA?

🙋🏻‍♀️ (reluctantly - but realised that realistically it was that or no Brexit)

frumpety · 16/10/2019 21:13

To be fair Fangirl Boris hasn't achieved anything yet, let alone a Withdrawal agreement which is what he is allegedly trying to do.

Not a single trade deal is involved in the current debacle. That's all left to be negotiated in the year we have left of the transition period, if we do leave.

And don't forget just how much cutting and pasting number 10 is currently doing from Mays WA. It is not a brand spankety new document sprung forth victorious from Johnson's loins, which is where most of his thoughts originate from.

This WA is Mays leftovers plus some sauce, plum or otherwise Smile

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 16/10/2019 21:14

I didn’t support the WA. We were better off staying in.

Snowjive2 · 16/10/2019 21:14

That’s a dysfunctional sense of humour you have there time4choc.

Really - enough of this expensive nonsense - Brexit can’t be done without hurting us all, and those most of all who can least afford it.

DustyDiamond · 16/10/2019 21:15

the whole three and a half years has just been one massive remain tantrum. It's getting a bit ridiculous now.

Yep!
Endless snot, tears and foot-stamping

Nothing dysfunctional there I don't think, I actually thought it was amusing in its naivety. Do you really think by revoking and 'getting back to real life' that will be the end of it. You can't see any potential issues arising from that at all?

Didn't mean to post the pic again, just the link 😳

It's the stupid iOS update - it's fucked my MN app

frumpety · 16/10/2019 21:29

Out of interest time4chocolate what issues do you see arising if revoke did actually happen ? end of October comes and for some reason or another, the current Government decides revoke is in the best interests of the country, what happens next ?

howabout · 16/10/2019 21:35

I didn't support TM's WA. Old Spreadsheet confirmed this evening it was a mechanism for BRINO. He's vacillating about supporting BJ's WA because it's a route to Canada +. Even mooted "Confirmatory Ref" versus Remain. That's the difference between Boris and Theresa's Cabinet and the 2 Deals.

And there's the rub. If the 21 all think like him the Deal won't get through with or without confirmatory vote. But then we are surely into a Boris Deal versus Remain GE?

Parker231 · 16/10/2019 21:44

Jo Maugham QC is lodging an appeal with The Court of Sessions - to be heard on Friday which would prevent the WA being presented to Parliament - We believe the Government's proposed Withdrawal Agreement is contrary to section 55 of the Taxation (Cross-border Trade) Act 2018 legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2018/22/section/55/enacted

time4chocolate · 16/10/2019 21:45

Out of interest time4chocolate what issues do you see arising if revoke did actually happen?

Nigel Farage as an MP for starters - oh the irony
Brexit Party MPs causing chaos in the EU
Labour wiped out
Tories in power for some considerable time
No Scottish Referendum
Disenfranchised people (and not just those that voted Brexit).

They are just a few off the top of my head.

OP posts:
howabout · 16/10/2019 21:47

Parker Jo hasn't seen the agreement so he can believe what he likes

Snowjive2 · 16/10/2019 21:48

Most people are sick to death of Brexit and want our govt to get back to the issues that
affect their daily lives most closely: health, education, housing, etc. So most people would welcome revoke. The few who feel differently (eg. the pitiful straggle which marched with Farage) will continue but they won’t bother the rest of us. When they have worked out a way to leave without harming the UK, maybe they’ll deserve to be heard.

Snowjive2 · 16/10/2019 21:57

Nigel Farage as an MP - now thatis funny. Farridge has failed to win election to Parlt no fewer than 7 times, and once lost to a man dressed as a dolphin. There’s a football World Cup coming up - his support will be busy watching that.

bellinisurge · 16/10/2019 21:58

What would be different to WA that you could accept?
And
What's more important: DUP sensibilities or Brexit?

Parker231 · 16/10/2019 21:59

@howabout - he’s a brilliant QC. If there is a way of stopping Boris doing anything stupid - Jo has the legal brilliance to get it through the Court with support from other WC’s.

DustyDiamond · 16/10/2019 22:04

maybe they’ll deserve to be heard.

🤔

It's not up to supercilious remainers to decide who does or doesn't 'deserve' to have their vote counted & actioned

Every single vote was equal - leave voters numbered more than Remain.

If the result is not acted upon then that is a breakdown in trust between the electorate & Parliament.

time4chocolate · 16/10/2019 22:07

Snowjive I would love glass of whatever you are on, is it a home brew? I could be interested in stocking some from youSmile

OP posts:
Snowjive2 · 16/10/2019 22:10

The votes cast in 2016 have been actioned - in as much as we’ve all spent more than 3 painful years while leavers tried to identify a viable way of actioning them. No way found that doesn’t hurt us all, the poor and the sick most of all.

DustyDiamond · 16/10/2019 22:10

he’s a brilliant QC. If there is a way of stopping Boris doing anything stupid - Jo has the legal brilliance to get it through the Court with support from other WC’s.

It is not up to unelected Maugham to dictate our democracy.

The judiciary & Parliament should be entirely separate

It is parliament's job to scrutinise & act upon anything they deem to be untoward not Maugham's

Snowjive2 · 16/10/2019 22:12

time4choc bless you, you do try hard
