Brexit Arms - Pop Up

Well I’m going to have a crack at this Landlady business and I’ve opened a pop up pubSmile.

Rules are:
Anything brexit related is up for discussion and even not Brexit related if you feel the need (so if you want to discuss Haemoroids that’s ok too Wink).

I’m ok with a bit of arseyness (it’s an emotive subject) but if you go full monty in here I reserve the right to withhold all alcoholic beverages.

I have reserved a quiet table for MNHQ if they want to pop in for a quiet drink (Happy Hour is 6-7pmSmile).

Haven’t properly caught up yet with today’s Brexit news yet but looks like we are finally facing end game, that said still plenty of days left for high jinks and holidays.

Anyone have any views on how they think the next few days will play out are welcome to voice here.

First drinks are on the house WineWine 🍻 Cheers

Agreed @Walkingdeadfangirl - the sooner Mr Johnson goes, the better.

lonelyplanetmum · 13/10/2019 22:32

Yes you can (and should) put a price on a policy which trashes the economy

Here is an illustration of some of the price we will all pay.

Oops sorry , Holly is a rotund bear and Sally may also be a well nourished bear , but she didn't win a prize this year Wink

Sky Twitter news - Javid announces Budget Nov 6: “This will be the first Budget after leaving the EU...This is the right and responsible thing to do – we must get on with governing” > QS today and now Budget, from a govt that can’t pass a vote in the HoC.

Parker231 · 14/10/2019 08:04

Not looking good

frumpety Holly is looking so magnificent, "an absolute ursine unit" in the words of one twitter admirer, because she's living the single life. Why or whether this is a good thing is a more philosophical debate.

howabout · 14/10/2019 10:12

Parker precisely why Parliament should be honest and vote No Confidence to call a GE. Having a QS and Budget will hopefully force the issue. No idea why anyone, even those who want a 2nd Ref, think it acceptable to have a Parliament without a Government for up to a year.

DustyDiamond · 14/10/2019 10:41

QS today and now Budget, from a govt that can’t pass a vote in the HoC

Agree with howabout - GE is absolutely necessary moving forwards.

howabout · 14/10/2019 11:02

A couple of interesting musings in the twittersphere.

If a 2nd Ref happens first it is likely that the next GE would be Conservative majority. The extent of the Brexit Party side order would be determined by whether the 2nd Ref is Remain or Leave and where Conservatives stand on implementing the result.

Difficult to see Labour benefiting from either Remain or Leave result as LibDems would still be splitting the Leftish vote rather than the Rightish one. (In 2014 Labour got blamed by both sides in the Indy debate hence losing votes to Tory and SNP and being wiped out in Scotland. Their Brexit positioning looks exactly the same whatever the outcome). Otoh SNP seem to have engineered upside all round - they can blame everyone else if Leave wins and still campaign for 2nd Indy Ref if Remain wins.

This is why Labour started off and should still be strategising for GE first even if they are likely to lose or end up in Grand anti-Brexit coalition. GE first at least gives a possibility of blaming 2nd Ref mess on LibDems.

Parker231 · 14/10/2019 11:09

I agree at GE is needed but only when a no deal is off the table.

Burpsandrustles · 14/10/2019 17:15

'Sally and Holly are rotund, salmon eating, bears' Grin

I see a good time was had all round last night Grin

🙏 Keeping the candle 🕯 lit.

I agree at GE is needed but only when a no deal is off the table.

Exactly this. All BoZo has to do is get an extension and he can have his bloody GE. It's not rocket science.

time4chocolate · 14/10/2019 18:08

Exactly this. All BoZo has to do is get an extension and he can have his bloody GE. It's not rocket science

You would hope it would be that simple, however, I do get a feeling in my waters that we are not out of the woods yet with stalling tactics/pushing the GE can a bit further down the road.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/10/2019 18:12

I dunno. If we no deal, the GE will be just before Christmas when people are struggling to get everything they need due to issues. Could make for an interesting result.

I don't think the opposition will delay though. Unless it's for a very good tactical reason.

time4chocolate · 14/10/2019 18:23

I would prefer November to December, regardless of whether we are in a no deal/extension or whatever December for a GE, in terms of turnout, would certainly be interesting and give the pollsters a bit of a headache.

I’m off to google now whether there has ever been a GE in December before.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 14/10/2019 18:30

Unless it's called really soon, it can't be November due to the notice needed though.

I'm not sure there has in December. Not in a long time, if at all. Always good to buck tradition. Ha!

time4chocolate · 14/10/2019 18:37

Well, I have just had a quick google, over the years a fair few have been undertaken in October but you have to go back to 1935 (Winston Churchill) for a November GE and even further back to 1923 (Ramsay Macdonald) for a December GE. Don’t think we will be able to pull any useful info from that oneGrin.

From Wiki:
James Ramsay MacDonald FRS was a British statesman who was the first Labour Party politician to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, leading minority Labour government

F***g hell, I hope that’s not an omenShock

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 14/10/2019 18:48

Late autumn / winter isn't a good time for anyone. Too much other shit going on to get to polling stations. What do you reckon, 40% turnout in Dec? If that?

time4chocolate · 14/10/2019 18:54

A lot will come into play like you say noword the weather certainly being one of them, you will have to get Youbadbadkitten on the caseSmile.

I would say in that region but it’s very difficult to even take an educated guess when there is absolutely nothing previously to go on for Dec.

OP posts:
frumpety · 14/10/2019 18:58

If a 2nd Ref happens first it is likely that the next GE would be Conservative majority

Even if the result was heavily remain ? Do you think the Conservatives would campaign against the result in a GE ?

time4chocolate · 14/10/2019 19:02

Actually thinking on it a bit more, I think I might revise that 40% and go higher purely because of the unique (and not in a good way) situation we find ourselves in for this GE. I’m going to go for 50-55% (but certainly wouldn’t put that on at the bookies).

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 14/10/2019 19:05

You see, I did wonder about that too. But December is bloody awkward, isn't it?

And will people be so pissed off about even considering having to vote in Dec that they don't?

But, but, but...

I'll go with your 50%. Deal?

time4chocolate · 14/10/2019 19:11

It’s a Deal Noword (I think we need to get ourselves over to Brussels pronto WinkGrin)

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 14/10/2019 19:17

See, now THAT was the easiest deal in history. Grin

We could show them how it's done alright. 😂😂
