Westminstenders: Pro Rogues

RedToothBrush · 06/10/2019 21:51

The Pro Rogues plan to prorogue again this week.

The Queen might be challenged to sack Johnson. Or he might be forced to extend.

It depends on which newspaper you read. Either way it strikes you that no one really knows what's going to happen...

I'm sure only a minority will like it right now. But many will feel emboldened or "oh , well if that's what everyone else is thinking, maybe I should too?"

Re that Merkel image and plenty of other similar thoughts.

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 15:51

As I said, change one word ...

Hoooo · 08/10/2019 16:09

Shame you voted alongside so many people that do like that poster, really.

Hey ho.

prettybird · 08/10/2019 16:10

Tom Newton-Dunn asks/answers his own question in this tweet In response to Nicky Morgan’s complaint about briefings in Cabinet, I’m told the PM said to the table, “you shouldn’t believe what you read. You should listen to what I say instead”. A slap down for senior officials doing the briefing?

But I think he's wrong - it's not a slap down at all, but a reminder to the Cabinet that what is briefed in public and what he says behind closed doors are not in any way related. Confused

.....although why the Cabinet should believe anything he says, in public or private, I really don't know Hmm

LizzieSiddal · 08/10/2019 16:11

How long will it take the UK, or actually England, to regain any respect in the World?

I'm so ashamed to be English.

TheABC · 08/10/2019 16:12

What exactly would it take for the Opposition to get off their collective arse and agree something positive?

FWIW, I am fairly sure Johnson is saying the same thing, from a different angle!

Outsomnia · 08/10/2019 16:12

@tobee

Exactly what I was thinking too. But hopefully will not happen. Most people are decent until sucked into a vortex of hate.

tobee · 08/10/2019 16:16

God! I thought you meant me there for a second Hoooo Blush

Personally, I think it's unfair and unproductive to indiscriminately make that kind of snide comment to a Leaver ... through this very forum we have seen Leavers whose current reactions vary from deep unease to upset and a determination that what is happening now is in no way what they ever envisaged when they voted in good faith. It's people like this that will be needed if we are to ever find a way out of this mess.

Of course there are also Leavers who are happy to carry on lying, misdirecting, distracting, and do everything they can to avoid the consequences of their actions ... you can supply your own words for them.

But in the spirit of reconciliation, until a poster has proven themselves to be a bellend, it's only fair to assume the best ....

Agree. DGR.

Reconciliation has to begin somewhere - and here's a good place.

Siddall? I went to school with a Siddall? hmm Was Elizabeth the one with he flowing pre-Raphaelite copper locks?

That's the one - Beata Beatrix etc.

We really are missing out on some top notch BBC-stylee drama with the Pre-Raphaelites and their .... interesting ... lives. (I am aware there have been some smaller scale attempts). I can't recommend Pre-Raphaelites in Love highly enough. It has it all, really. Sex, scandal, intrigue, grisly exhumations, famous bit-players (Dickens, Walt Whitman, Tennyson ...) sell-outs, tragedy and a "new and noble" school of art, plus proto feminist and socialist leanings from William Morris (whose wife Jane was an archetypal PR model and kept her beauty into her old age).

They were the beat musicians of their day. Dammit, we need it in glorious HD and a Netflix binge watch special.

(I'm such a fanbois, I made a trip to Highgate to visit the family tomb....)

Thank you for posting Notthebloodymustardcushion. I have said on previous threads that my Mother was German and I am a dual National. My Father has actually said what was in that poster but used different words. I feel sick seeing it this afternoon but am not surprised.

I do appreciate you posting. I feel we have been artificially divided into two groups, fuel chucked in and set alight and it is really important for people to try and bridge the huge divide.

ContinuityError · 08/10/2019 16:32

Interesting to see the Macbeth quotes - DS and I saw a production last week and it chimed - especially the “If it were done when 'tis done” speech.

Still, we all know what happened to Macbeth and his vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 08/10/2019 16:38

DGR - 1) Italian Embassy posted : On 8 October 2019 the Italian National Research Council hosts the Ada Lovelace Day (ALD) in Rome.

Yay! Ada fan here.

(Re your earlier post about submitting names online: I read an article written in about 2001 about how to capture names online in a way that would accommodate every variation across the globe, in a very simple way that doesn't require complex programming - I read the article you linked to [shocked]. Anyway, I know the author's name but annoyingly cannot find the article on line. I may have a copy on another computer.] As you were.

Hoooo · 08/10/2019 16:39

Oh, I'm sick of them
"Not in my name"
Ffs.
THEY stood alongside and voted with these people and gave leave.eu their victory.
Bleating now about how misrepresented they feel is pathetic.
Nigel Farage was always very clear - and utterly vile - in his speech and his views.
THEY voted slongside him.
Cry me a fucking river.

Tanith · 08/10/2019 16:40

"But I think he's wrong - it's not a slap down at all, but a reminder to the Cabinet that what is briefed in public and what he says behind closed doors are not in any way related."

That was how I read it, too.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2019 16:41

He sums up my feelings atm 🤬

Tom Peck@tompeck

I can’t recall many days in the last few years like this one.
There is absolutely nothing funny to say.

A clique of liars, frauds, degenerates and psychopaths, shielded from the misery they spread,
have broken their country for nothing.

They will be reviled for all time.

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 16:49

Oh, I'm sick of them ... "Not in my name" ... Ffs...THEY stood alongside and voted with these people and gave leave.eu their victory.

Most Leavers were decent people who were hoodwinked by the lies on that bus, and genuinely thought leaving would be handled in a calm measured responsible way. If such people exist then now is the chance for them to state that - and there are those that have.

Personally, I think that anyone who still thinks leaving is in anyway a good idea, given where we are, and what has happened, then I can only wonder whether there is a different "UK" somewhere, and the news is being mixed up.

That's not to say that they still can't want to Leave, and have their reasons for doing so which may still make sense.

But to continue to support Leave now, when it's handmaidens are the likes of Boris and the despicable Leave.eu organisation means you're not really putting your full intelligence into the question, are you ?

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 16:51

Where can I apply for honorary Scothood Grin. I'm half Italian, and I know our countries have always had a cordial relationship. I promise I'll sit in the corner, and be quiet. You'd never know I was here. Honest.

Songsofexperience thinking of you. I haven't been on as much of late as I've been trying to help a friend who is going through a bad patch. I hope you have other support around you. xxx

DG there are plenty of Scots with Italian heritage as the quality of ice cream I grew up eating attests to.

@thesecretbarrister

May I suggest that if openly racist organisations tweet openly racist things, then you angrily quote-tweeting those openly racist things may just be what those racists are hoping for.
