The Pro Rogues plan to prorogue again this week.

The Queen might be challenged to sack Johnson. Or he might be forced to extend.

It depends on which newspaper you read. Either way it strikes you that no one really knows what's going to happen...

Wrt Spectator article the word that jumps out at me is "winners". Cummings said "we're going to win!" which doesn't make sense. Win what? An election wasn't mentioned. Leave won in 2016, so no future tense. So it must just be use for some (crap) psychological reason. Hmm

prettybird · 07/10/2019 21:47

It will certainly make Brenda's 2019 Christmas Message interesting Wink

Ellie56 · 07/10/2019 21:52

I wonder if one thinks one has had another annus horribilus?

The unsavoury allegations about the favourite son that just won't go away, Harry and Meghan doing their own thing and pissing everyone off, and then Johnson dropping her in the shit from a great height.

From the Spectator article:

To marginalise the Brexit Party, we will have to fight the election on the basis of ‘no more delays, get Brexit done immediately’.

Says it all really - still running scared of a party which only managed to get one MP elected and he was originally a Tory who turned, and no longer has his seat.

Nothing there about the good of the country. Also countries which oppose will go to the back of the queue for Trade Deals. I look forward to the USA, when they oppose the trashing of the GFA, being told that well it didn't matter to us anyway, they are now at the back of the queue.

TheMShip · 07/10/2019 21:56

Out I think within an extension there are only certain dates that the UK can exit on without a deal (if the government has the support of parliament of course). Someone here posted it, it's the last of the next month I think, so e.g in the current extension the last date that a September 30th no deal exit could've been determined was 31 August. I think it's to give everyone at least a month's notice. Of course the end of the extension is a special case, but even if the govt won support for no deal from HoC today, I don't think they could actually implement till the 31st. Always happy to be corrected.

Re getting the positive message across ....
we need a "Remain" version of this cartoon

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2019 22:00

I don't think you can no deal until the end of the extension as both domestic and EU law have the extended date in them. And we can't amend EU law, only domestic. And I can't see the EU agreeing to amend their date to assist us in no dealing (especially not when it's been extended to avoid this!).

QueenOfThorns · 07/10/2019 22:00

tobee I try not to think about it too hard or I want to shout and throw things around Sad

That Spectator article did seem to suggest that the Tories would campaign on the basis of going for no deal in a GE after an extension. That’s clearly bonkers, isn’t it? Where’s the ‘win’ there? Everyone will know that they actively fought for no deal ... and then they have to deal with the consequences for 5 years Confused

BigChocFrenzy · 07/10/2019 22:03

RedToothbrush, RedAvocado
Yep, invoking A50 must be done according to our constitutional requirements - which were satisfied

However, once invocation has happened, then No Deal Brexit is automatic once A50 time expires, unless the UK specifically chooses another available option:

The PM can Revoke, or request an extension - to which the E27 agree unanimously -
or
The HoC can pass a WA that has been agreed with the EU

imo, if we run out of time,
then it doesn't matter whether it is because BJ has ignored UK law / courts
or whether the UK cannot give business the notice / prep they need to avoid total disaster
- those are our problems / cockups -
it is automatic No Deal

Our only - very faint - hope would be if the ECJ were sympathetic to an emergency case brought by certain parties, as in the recent UK court actions
I suspect they wouldn't even consider overturning No Deal unless both the EU and the UK strongly wanted this - which might be the case after several weeks or months of No Deal, but maybe not in the first week or two.

tobee · 07/10/2019 22:05

All that stuff in the Spectator article about who goes to the back of the queue is clearly delusional.

The only country thar will be suffering from definitely being at the back of the queue is the UK!

prettybird · 07/10/2019 22:06

They don't care: the hedge funders will have made their money and the NHS will have been groomed to be explored by private companies. Angry

Fuck the ordinary people Sad

BigChocFrenzy · 07/10/2019 22:07

Queen That "Dairy Council NI warns of ‘certain doomsday scenario’ if there is no–deal Brexit"
article I linked upthread is from their website today

Basilpots · 07/10/2019 22:07

All that stuff in the Spectator article about who goes to the back of the queue is clearly delusional.

Harks back to the Obama comments and fits the narrative.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/10/2019 22:08

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2019 22:20

The £15 billion was in an HMRC release today - it's the admin costs for the new tax arrangements if we go ND.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 07/10/2019 22:27

Listening: I permanently have an EU sticker on the car

Me too, along with a Saltire and the Union Flag. Union Flag may be coming off shortly ...

JustAnotherPoster00 · 07/10/2019 22:32

With all the Tories in the LibDems I am from here on out renaming the LibDems to the ConDems, if you could make sure all the centrists Grin get the memo please Grin

QueenOfThorns · 07/10/2019 22:33

BCF I don’t doubt for one minute that the dairy cows of NI are in mortal danger if we no deal, but neither article linked to from today mentioned the culling of cows at all. Even the one that did (from August) didn’t say that the Government was going to kill them!

Outsomnia · 07/10/2019 22:34

All I can say now is that this is a shitstorm, and not much good will come out of it.

Not for England and Wales, not for Scotland, but especially not for NI.

And ROI will suffer terribly too let it be said.

What the F are the benefits of this? Please someone tell me. I've been waiting for three + years to be told it will be the best thing since sliced bread but not getting that feeling at all......

JustAnotherPoster00 · 07/10/2019 22:36

oh wait, wait, wait I got this:

BREXIT MODE ENABLED

At least the price of beef is going to come down and then we can all make a celebratory beef wellington on independence day

BREXIT MODE DISABLED

Urgh I feel sick channeling Farage and Cendrillion Grin
