Westminstenders: The Slow No

Have to make this quick.

Johnson has made an 'offer' to the EU. Let's stress this isn't a deal because they haven't agreed.

The EU have made kind noises about it but will say no thanks.

The UK are expecting this, and despite what's been said apparently are expecting more negotiation on this.

The DUP and the ERG seem to be on board with the proposal meaning in theory Johnson might have numbers to get through parliament. Except its not a deal so this is currently meaningless.

Parliament is prorogued again from next week with the Queen's Speech the following week.

First significant remain alliance move since the by-election. Lib Dems will stand aside for Dominic Grieve.

Seen those signs too on the M1

tobee · 05/10/2019 20:56

Still think the Hungry thing could well be misdirection/only some of what sabotage the government will try.

Saw the EU papers motorway gantries on the M2/M20 taking ds back to university the other night. On the way home to motorway was busy with European lorries. I was imagining what they will have to contend with in a few weeks if the government has its way!

ListeningQuietly · 05/10/2019 20:59

Rosina
Have you looked up how many Cabotage permits will be available to the UK as a non EU country .....
less than 500 PER YEAR

currently 12000 lorries PER DAY go through Dover ....

RosinaAlmaviva · 05/10/2019 21:34

Listening

So what it should say is deal or no deal, you will lose more than 95% of your cabotage business. Sad

RosinaAlmaviva · 05/10/2019 21:36

No wait, you said 12,000 per day.

More like 99.99% then.

ListeningQuietly · 05/10/2019 21:39

yup.
catastrophic does not even come close ....

prettybird · 05/10/2019 21:48

Sad fact about Brexit: I had already learnt what cabotage was Wink

On the face of it a very good poll for the Tories and a particularly bad one for the LDs....

However, Opinium consistently puts Tories high and LDs low, and this isn’t statistically different from any polls in September apart from the most recent one.

Also, it was carried out in the couple of days after BJs new “deal”, and it was predicable they’d be a bounce after that (most people won’t have dissected the proposals in the way many on here have). It’s equally predictable that this mini-adjustment will revert back once the proposal
is rejected and is forgotten as the crisis deepens further.

CendrillonSings · 05/10/2019 22:14

Yeah, yeah - 15 points is still 15 points!

Westminster voting intention:

CON: 38% (+2)
LAB: 23% (-1)
LDEM: 15% (-5)
BREX: 12% (+1)
GRN: 4% (+2)

I can understand Corbyn’s cowardice now - he knows he can never match Boris’ magnificence! Grin

I can understand Corbyn’s cowardice now - he knows he can never match Boris’ magnificence!

If Leavers hate being called thick why do they make it so easy? Hmm

Bearbehind · 05/10/2019 22:26

How anyone can defend a situation where the opposition is moving backwards even after all of Johnson’s antics, is beyond me.

I know there are plenty who happily blame Cameron or anyone who ever voted Tory but that cannot be changed now.

Right now the opposition is the only hope of making a difference - which is exactly why we’re screwed.

Defending Corbyn clinging on to power, despite the fact he is detested by so many and is the very reason Labour aren’t even in the running during the most corrupt and disgraceful period of politics any of us have ever seen, is mind blowing.

What were the polls looking like for Theresa May in 2017?

Just saying....

For an austerity loving Tory? Yellow Tories through and through, cup of cold sick anyone? Thats how Labours going to feel about that tbh

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2019 22:33

Have we got the data behind this poll, to see what was really happening?

Isn't it amazon how a poll brings Cendrillon screeching into the thread? Like Pavlov's dog. Ding ding!

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2019 22:33

Amazing. Not amazon. Autocorrect on fire.

CendrillonSings · 05/10/2019 22:33

If Leavers hate being called thick why do they make it so easy?

As I've mentioned before, I voted Remain - I just despise Labour much more than I do Leavers, who are generally well-meaning but misguided.

Looks like the public agrees with me! Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2019 22:34

Maybe Labour should bloody try a bit harder then, Just.

Ellie56 · 05/10/2019 22:34

The polls were supposed to be great for the Tories in 2017. That's why TM went to the polls . She was supposed to get a landslide victory. Hmm

And we all now how well that turned out.

CendrillonSings · 05/10/2019 22:35

Have we got the data behind this poll, to see what was really happening?

Let me check the data ... it says Conservatives winning, everyone else losing!

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2019 22:36

I think you're a liar, Cendrillon. The amount of love we see for BoZo from you. No remain-voting, sane, person would love BoZo like that.

CendrillonSings · 05/10/2019 22:36

And we all now how well that turned out.

She won, and the bonkers socialists were kept out of power. That's all I want out of the next election too.

Bearbehind · 05/10/2019 22:37

ellie TM screwed up her own election campaign by refusing to debate pretty much anything and then being robotic she did make an appearance

The original polls probably weren’t wrong - she just pissed her majority away

CendrillonSings · 05/10/2019 22:38

No remain-voting, sane, person would love BoZo like that.

I have news for you - a lot of Remainers are pretty damned right-wing. Did you think all 16+ million were cuddly lefty internationalists? We're not.
