Have to make this quick.

Johnson has made an 'offer' to the EU. Let's stress this isn't a deal because they haven't agreed.

The EU have made kind noises about it but will say no thanks.

The UK are expecting this, and despite what's been said apparently are expecting more negotiation on this.

The DUP and the ERG seem to be on board with the proposal meaning in theory Johnson might have numbers to get through parliament. Except its not a deal so this is currently meaningless.

Parliament is prorogued again from next week with the Queen's Speech the following week.

I meant how many he would lose to Farage, not to his left

Stormont party veto could be ditched for Brexit, says minister

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/04/stormont-party-veto-could-be-ditched-for-brexit-says-minister

The right of one party to veto Brexit arrangements in Northern Ireland may be eliminated for the purpose of the UK’s departure from the EU,
the Northern Ireland secretary has suggested.

Another one hoping this will turn some of the gammon army away from BoJo and split the hard right vote. Am watching the mood on Twitter with interest.

In the absence of anything really useful to add, here's a pic of one of my adorable fluffbags Grin

Taking back control, eh ?

Taking back control? Hmm... but will Arlene buy it?

Ellie56 · 04/10/2019 15:33

Come back Theresa - all is forgiven!

IDontBelieveYou · 04/10/2019 15:36

@SteveBakerHW - A source confirms all this means is that Government will obey the law.

It does not mean we will extend.

It does not mean we will stay in the EU beyond Oct 31.

We will leave.

——

What does this mean? It seems positively delusional.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 15:40

It means he's in denial ?

DGRossetti · 04/10/2019 15:42

A source confirms all this means is that Government will obey the law.

The implication being the Government believes obeying the law is somehow optional ?

QueenOfThorns · 04/10/2019 15:42

It’s those Jedi mind tricks, isn’t it?

tobee · 04/10/2019 15:42

Something else up his sleeve? But what? Hmm.

The phrase "don't trust them further than I can throw them" springs to mind. And the mind boggles at the thought

tobee · 04/10/2019 15:45

Steve Baker looks like a weasel and behaves like a weasel. Sorry to offend any weasel lovers

Ellie56 · 04/10/2019 15:50

What does this mean? It seems positively delusional.

It means they have come up with some clever trick to get round the law, or think they have. Hmm

I am reminded again of Roald Dahl's Enormous Crocodile whose dreadful "secret plans and clever tricks" keep getting shot down by the smarter occupants of the jungle.

Jason118 · 04/10/2019 15:52

Mr Johnson will resign on the 18th October.

Come back Theresa - all is forgiven!

Dear God no, if she had approached this in a sensible seeking consensus way from the start things would be a damn sight more 'strong and stable' right now

Grumpyperson · 04/10/2019 16:12

Dragons, goodness I hope not. But I hope the fact that you've thought of that means that other people (Joanna Cherry) has also thought of it, and any election will not be called until 1 November, so no purdah before a safe deal-exit.

unwravellingagain · 04/10/2019 16:13

Red - I haven't managed to read the whole thread yet, but a total yes re the independents. Have you read about Frome?

Council entirely run by independents, from a range of political backgrounds, but who all agree that traditional political parties are pointless. Now in their third 4-year term, support gone up every election, and they do some good work, particularly in terms of sustainability and trying - as far as is possible - to work on equality.

unwravellingagain · 04/10/2019 16:14

And yes, I think the general feeling is that no election can be called until 1 Nov, for precisely this reason.

Emilyontmoor · 04/10/2019 16:14

The thing about London though is that there is another dimension to the remainer vote. It isn’t just the white middle class educated demographic in the West in communities with high numbers of EU residents. It is also the BME and other minority ethnic groups and their communities who have experienced the increase in racism and impact on students of not just the Brexit debate but home office policies going back a decade or more. Both revolted against Zac’s racism last time and I can’t see Rory undermining Sadiq’s appeal to that group. Sadiq has a proven track record of speaking against power including the Labour Party on their issues and in that sense has been a good representative. It will be interesting to see how Rory plays it and I agree he is intelligent and it will be interesting to see What he offers. Perhaps he doesn’t need to win, just to fight an effective campaign that gets attention and remains in people’s memories for when he next needs to provide his credentials as a voice of reason who campaigns in innovative ways though I am not sure the selfie schtick actually Has credibility with old or young.

tobee · 04/10/2019 16:15

I don't always agree with Just but yes 1000% re TM (not forgetting DC to add to the mix)
