Have to make this quick.

Johnson has made an 'offer' to the EU. Let's stress this isn't a deal because they haven't agreed.

The EU have made kind noises about it but will say no thanks.

The UK are expecting this, and despite what's been said apparently are expecting more negotiation on this.

The DUP and the ERG seem to be on board with the proposal meaning in theory Johnson might have numbers to get through parliament. Except its not a deal so this is currently meaningless.

Parliament is prorogued again from next week with the Queen's Speech the following week.

Interesting, poster00, so that's another Remainer MP who'd prefer No Deal to even a few days of Corbyn

I wonder what the real total is, since maybe some won't state this in public

0lga · 04/10/2019 09:31

PMK

DGRossetti · 04/10/2019 09:34

I know it is the Sun but Johnson trying to buy off the Irish government shows just how clueless he is about Ireland.

If people learn nothing else from these threads, it should be to get their Brexit news from non-UK sources.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 09:34

BJ has got his Irish politicians confused
It's the DUP who accept bungs

DGRossetti · 04/10/2019 09:35

(following on about news sources)

I guess we could always make the UK a theme park of what life in East Germany must have been like ?

bellinisurge · 04/10/2019 09:36

Had my monthly b12 jab a couple of days ago and asked about the flu jab - I already got a free one at Boots (I have MS and am eligible for a free one). Nurse said they only had limited ones for over 65s.
So under 65s like me who are nevertheless more vulnerable if they get flu for health reasons can't get a vaccine from the GP yet.
It's fiiiiiine.

I thought exactly the same this morning BCF, its like they cant distinguish between a GNU and a majority Labour government, not to get all student political but they seem more wedded to the neo liberal capitalist ideology than they can muster up the ability to give a shit about us that are on nowhere near 70K a year minimum

Our hair is on fire and were still arguing about should we save the curtains because of smoke damage smh

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 09:43

Also the "senior EU figures leaning on Ireland" is Sun bollocks

They then go onto talk about E European countries.
We know the rightwing regimes in Hungary & Poland are not supportive of Ireland

Orbán is an embarassment, not senior
However, I doubt if even he would actually try leaning

DGRossetti · 04/10/2019 09:51

The problem for a cunning wheeze predicated on an EU27 splitting the ranks is that said EU27 is going to have to live - within the EU - with the consequences of that action.

Personally the funniest thing is that is there is even the slightest hint that the UK is angling to get an EU member to veto an extension, it's probably going to achieve the exact reverse and guarantee one.

These are fucked up times.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 09:54

What a surprise Hmm

Excl: Boris Johnson has scrapped a Theresa May promise to the EU that Britain will abide by “level-playing field” standards after Brexit

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/brexit/10063334/boris-johnson-level-playing-field-eu-brexit/amp/?

Boris Johnson has scrapped a promise to the EU that Britain will abide by “level-playing -field standards” after Brexit

Ex-PM Theresa Mayy_ had agreed with Brussels that the UK would stick to similar rules in areas such as competition and state aid plus workplace and environmental protections.

A Cabinet source told The Sun:
“The level-playing-field promise has to go, and Boris is very clear about this.
It would seriously restrict our ability to deregulate and to do trade deals with other countries.”
< i.e. US FTA >

This is what the Opposition, of all parties need to hammer home - Trade Deals with the US will destroy the NHS, and Leavers did vote for the NHS, not to destroy it.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/10/2019 10:07

Rory Stewart is standing down

That is a shame

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 10:08

Peter Fosterr@pmdfoster*

SO That means the EU is being asked to sign up to waiving a huge amount of its customs rules,
setting precedents for other countries,

on the basis that the UK properly manages this east-west border

...using a system HMRC has not yet build and over which the EU has no control /13

My guess is that Barnier will tell Frost that this is a punt the EU is not willing to take.

Particularly when the 'future' relationship is a minimalist FTA that, per Johnson, gives UK free range to diverge from EU rules/regs
...so that border wd need to work /14

James Rothwelll@JamesERothwell*

In London, the Tories are jubilant about a potential Brexit deal

But in Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson's two borders proposal has gone down extremely badly, with the exception of the DUP .......

Why Northern Ireland is ridiculing Boris Johnson's Brexit proposals

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/10/03/northern-ireland-ridiculing-boris-johnsons-brexit-proposals/amp/?

... with the exception of the DUP, the proposal for Northern Ireland to be subjected to two borders

  • regulatory checks in the Irish sea, and a customs border with the Republic -**

is being ridiculed by business leaders and politicians across the spectrum

BestIsWest · 04/10/2019 10:08

Didn’t Rory Stewart say that a few weeks ago? Or am I getting confused.

Ellie56 · 04/10/2019 10:09

So Johnson is now reneging on previous promises made by TM.It gets worse.

Wake up Opposition and bloody do something!!Angry

DGRossetti · 04/10/2019 10:09

In London, the Tories are jubilant about a potential Brexit deal

Once again, I'll wait for that in German, first.

BestIsWest · 04/10/2019 10:12

And yet they were pushing the flu jab on the radio just now - all primary school children (at least in England because education is devolved elsewhere please note BBC) are to be offered it. Perhaps that’s why there is less stock?

I’m booked to have one through my employer next week although I had last years and come down with a different strain. On Christmas Day.

Bearbehind · 04/10/2019 10:13

So Johnson is now reneging on previous promises made by TM.It gets worse.

All that will achieve is reinforcing the EUs resolve on why the backstop is required - we simply can’t be trusted to do anything we say anymore.

Hoooo · 04/10/2019 10:14

Just had mine at local pharmacy as I'm mums carer

Ellie56 · 04/10/2019 10:15

So Bojo the Clown's brilliant wheeze has gone down like a lead balloon in Northern Ireland and in the Irish Republic.

Quelle Surprise. Hmm

Not. Angry

BestIsWest · 04/10/2019 10:17

Wow, apologies Chaz Rory Stewart has actually resigned from the Tory party.

Inniu · 04/10/2019 10:17

Far right Eastern European governments leaning on Dublin won’t work even if it were true. This is an existential matter for Ireland so no Irish government will ever accept it.
Even if another country says they would veto an extension Ireland would rather no deal than this proposal.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 10:18

peregrina I don't understand wtf any Northern Labour Leave MPs are thinking,
if the reports that some may back the deal are indeed true Confused

Is their people's willy really worth binning most of the protections & benefits that those people - and all the ordinary workers and less well-off elsewhere in the UK - have gained over several decades Hmm

Peregrina · 04/10/2019 10:18

So Bojo the Clown's brilliant wheeze has gone down like a lead balloon in Northern Ireland and in the Irish Republic.

Does Bojo the Clown care? Does he even know where they are on the map? Does he know one is part of the UK and one is not?

BigChocFrenzy · 04/10/2019 10:20

Yep, DG You'd have a long wait

This is a "deal" the Tory party have negotiated with itself and the DUP

nowhere near one that the EU could sign up to
