Is it over yet?

The Tory Party Conference is in full swing in the Manchester Rain, and is proving to be its usual fun.

Johnson is caught up in all sorts of allegations of abuses of power - the non-declaration of his "friendship" to a busty blonde whom was getting a large tax payer grant, and then there the Odey question after his sister said he was under the control of the Hedge Funders.

And thats before we talk about the 40 hospitals, his provocative language and how many times he can say the word surrender.

There is lots of distancing from Lyton Crosby. And accusations that Johnson has gone 'rogue' only listening to the wisdom of Cummings and Symonds.

The Queen apparently has asked for advice as to under what circumstance she can dismiss a PM.

AND NO ONE IS EVEN TALKING ABOUT A DEAL.

Optimism and confidence is all we need It is actually. I'm sick of the misery.

verticality · 02/10/2019 12:29

"The sales of Jason Donovan CDs to North Korea will see us through"
"It is actually. I'm sick of the misery."

Any dream will do?

It is actually. I'm sick of the misery.

Yep, you're quite right, optimism and confidence will pay my sick daughter's medical bills now that we know the UK won't cover it.

derxa · 02/10/2019 12:34

Any dream will do? Well I have a dream that all this pointless carping and whining is at an end. Parliament had a chance to vote for a deal and it failed three times because of tribal politics. So I'm done.

thecatfromjapan · 02/10/2019 12:37

Yep.

Willing suspension of disbelief.

Random18 · 02/10/2019 12:40

Optimism and confidence doesn't cut it I'm afraid.

Show me, prove to me that noone will die. Prove to me that my kids futures will be ok. Prove to me that I will be able to feed them.

Our children deserve better than fucking optimism and dreaming

Oakenbeach · 02/10/2019 12:40

No Deal will be down to the Tories and to a lesser but not insignificant part down to the LibDems

If we crash out with opposition parties not getting their act together, then I agree the LDs will bear some of the blame.... but so will Corbyn, as he will have shown he would rather no-deal than give up being PM of a 2 week GNU. It will be a plague on all their houses!.... Labour and Corbyn certainly wouldn’t be excepted from this!

frumpety · 02/10/2019 12:41

I did watch most of it, not a lot of love for Europe when he said he loved Europe I noticed ? Not many of those Get Brexit done posters being waved either, but I didn't make it until the very end so maybe they were held aloft at the finale ? I imagine he got a standing ovation ?

It all felt a bit after dinner speech to a tough crowd who hadn't been given a free reign of the bar. I thought he was in dangerous territory when he looked for a moment as though he was actually going to do something descriptive with his hands when he mentioned trains and tunnels Grin

thecatfromjapan · 02/10/2019 12:41

More importantly - there was nothing in that speech.

Westministenders: Conference Cult
Dusty01 · 02/10/2019 12:46

Where were the final Brexit proposals? I thought they were supposed to be presented at the end. That's why we were all watching.

The whole thing felt chilling. All that clapping and cheering and self congratulatory laughing. It felt like watching something out of Animal Farm.

thecatfromjapan · 02/10/2019 12:47

I can't quite fathom the addiction to being lied to.

It's obviously a human trait - but we do keep it corralled as our love for story-telling.

It becomes something else, something more bleak, sad, and dangerous, once we apply it in the realm of reality and politics.

derxa · 02/10/2019 12:51

More importantly - there was nothing in that speech. Probably not but the reason Johnson was there at all was all the fault of the numpties in the HoC. The idea that they care about your interests is ludicrous.

thecatfromjapan · 02/10/2019 12:55

I'm loving the casual switching between blind optimism & nihilism.

You know, if you followed Diane Abbott's address to Raab, you'll be aware she spoke about the death threats and abuse MPs have received.

Not because they're care-nothing sociopaths and nihilists.

Because they are resolutely standing up for democracy and rule of law.

They think it matters.

So ... keep your nihilism.

prettybird · 02/10/2019 12:57

A generous interpretation is that BJ has confused deficit with debt - which in itself if worrying if he's the PM Hmm

A more accurate An alternative interpretation is that he deliberately and consciously lying, in the knowledge that most of the public doesn't understand the difference. Hmm

But where are the MSM journalists screaming that from the mountain tops - at the very least, pointing out the difference and correcting the lie? AngryConfused

Is it simply weariness in that this is just one in a long line of lies? Sad Which one do they home in on? ShockAngry

derxa · 02/10/2019 13:03

Because they are resolutely standing up for democracy and rule of law. Who are they ?

Dusty01 · 02/10/2019 13:05

"More importantly - there was nothing in that speech. Probably not but the reason Johnson was there at all was all the fault of the numpties in the HoC."

derxa - I thought Johnson was there because it was the Conservative Party conference ...

tobee · 02/10/2019 13:08

It would be interesting to do a straw poll as to what people think will happen in the next few days.

Eg

Johnson gets around Benn Act and we crash out

Johnson gets put in prison

Johnson resigns so doesn't have to extend

Johnson resigns because of J Arcuri

The Queen sacks Boris

Ken Clarke leads a GNU

etc etc etc

I'm sure you can think of more. I'm sure you can get odds on all outcomes.

ThanksFlowers bigchoc

derxa · 02/10/2019 13:11

derxa - I thought Johnson was there because it was the Conservative Party conference ... He was there because he's PM...because they got rid of TM... because parliament refused to vote for her deal. Now we're on the verge of no deal. Hence my optimism comment. I have to focus on my life with optimism because that is the only thing I can control. Apart from a vote at a general election which isn't happening

MockersthefeMANist · 02/10/2019 13:25

It's finally up. Quality Control of Brexit Party candidates seems no better than at UKIP when Farage ran the show:

And be in no doubt what the references to George Soros mean.

I usually get Very or Wow her adverts, possibly booking.com on the mumsnet pages, today I got this

@derxa
I can’t figure out who you are annoyed with for Mays deal not passing. The Torys with the DUP had the majority in parliament but the current PM and most of his cabinet voted against the deal. Is it Johnson and the ERG you are upset with?

BigChocFrenzy · 02/10/2019 13:35

"when we Leave the EU and the purging of EU and Soros collaborators begins. " Hmm

That's sinister
He's said his remarks were "over the top" and deleted the tweets,
but presumably he meant them, just didn't realise that a candidate for MP is supposed to keep such beliefs / plans quiet - for now.

I expect Lady Hale will just ignore his slur that she's an "EU lackey* and won't sue him

BigChocFrenzy · 02/10/2019 13:38

The ERG mostly want No Deal and hate the WA, because it spoils their SIngapore-on-thames plans

I sympathise being exasperated at those opposed to No Deal who didn't vote for the WA

derxa · 02/10/2019 13:40

Is it Johnson and the ERG you are upset with? The whole bloody lot of them
