Westministenders: Conference Cult

Is it over yet?

The Tory Party Conference is in full swing in the Manchester Rain, and is proving to be its usual fun.

Johnson is caught up in all sorts of allegations of abuses of power - the non-declaration of his "friendship" to a busty blonde whom was getting a large tax payer grant, and then there the Odey question after his sister said he was under the control of the Hedge Funders.

And thats before we talk about the 40 hospitals, his provocative language and how many times he can say the word surrender.

There is lots of distancing from Lyton Crosby. And accusations that Johnson has gone 'rogue' only listening to the wisdom of Cummings and Symonds.

The Queen apparently has asked for advice as to under what circumstance she can dismiss a PM.

AND NO ONE IS EVEN TALKING ABOUT A DEAL.

I had a work colleague (slightly more senior to me but not in my line of management) try it on with me when we were away overnight on business together, when I was a raw (and attractive Wink) graduate recruit back in the mid 80s. He accepted my "No" though and we continued to work well together as friends after that moment of embarrassment (on his part). I never told anyone though as (as far as I was concerned) I had dealt with it comfortably at the time.

Fortunately, I never had to deal with an unwanted advance from someone in a position of power or influence over me.

I don't think we can judge how women deal with advances or inappropriate behaviour, especially from those that have power or influence over them. The disparity in power that results in such incidents means that to suggest that the women "should" have spoken up is indeed victim blaming - and demonstrates that there is still work to be done in levelling the playing field Sad

Press Gazette @pressgazette
BREAKING: BBC chief Lord Tony Hall has stepped in over its Naga Munchetty complaint ruling and overturned it. He has said in an email to staff: “I don’t think Naga’s words were sufficient to merit a partial uphold of the complaint around the comments she made.”

Good.

What a farce.

I don't normally criticise RED or spelling, but presuming the thread title refers to Mr Johnson, there appears to be a typo?

QuentinWinters · 30/09/2019 19:32

.

MockersthefeMANist · 30/09/2019 19:32

If it's a grab under the dinner table, a swift fork to the knuckles would seem apposite.

BigChocFrenzy · 30/09/2019 19:33

We have 2-3 Black Swan Events:

.The Brexit vote
. the USA electing a populist authoritarian POTUS
. the UK Tory party being taken over by authoritarians too

They are all connected and organised by the same sort of people in both countries, with considerable crossover too.

It's like they rolled a 6 on the dice.
3 times, one after the other
Luck or incredibly good planning, timing, joint effort ? ==> @red ??

All 3 gain strength from each other

That the #1 and #5 countries have been taken over like this is dangerous for both the inhabitants and the whole world
The EU is especially anxious about both

prettybird · 30/09/2019 19:33

You mean this word instead?! Grin

get the ear worm in early Wink

ListeningQuietly · 30/09/2019 19:33

Jason118 · 30/09/2019 19:38

I'm good at typos.

I'm amazed I don't get more criticism for typos or my mistaken missing words. My grammar can be shocking!

Conference Cult was a reference to the Tory Party Conference which is its own special world which is detached from the reality of everyone else.

Any single one of those Black Swans would be a body blow, but trying to defend against all 3 at once ? Confused

That's why I wonder at the timing

I hope each of our democracies survive this fully intact, not as a Russian or Hungarian faux democracy

borntobequiet · 30/09/2019 19:39

Victim blaming my arse.

Peregrina · 30/09/2019 19:39

The public would not forgive the opposition for being responsible for another delay."

Remainers would be delighted, and at least half of Leave voters would neither know nor care.

RedToothBrush · 30/09/2019 19:41

penny drops

I'm being slow.

No title was innocent. But hell if it fits...

When do the Cabinet resignations start?

Especially if BJ chooses the Cummings / Raab camp.

There are too many in Cabinet I think who would be scared of being tarnished by Johnson breaking the law.

Long term it would be career suicide, if they've not committed that already. Unless all the experts are wrong about No Deal.

GeistohneGrenzen · 30/09/2019 19:42

prettybird · 30/09/2019 19:48

Jason - blame my 82 year old dad and his 80 year old Zimbabwean friend who sent it to him Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 30/09/2019 19:49

Cummings looks nothing like JRM's nanny ..... but he seems in charge

JRM today crawling to him: Confused

"If we deliver [Brexit], we win and if we don’t, we lose.

And it’s as simple as that and if you don’t believe me the person who puts this most clearly is the great Dominic Cummings, to whom we should all be grateful"

W.T.F. !! 🤮🤮

boatyardblues · 30/09/2019 19:49

The way you lot were just talking about your cats sounded a bit like marketing/upselling. Will you be bartering with them if it all goes Mad Max in November? “I’ll trade you this meaty moggy for a course of broad spectrum antibiotics and a bottle of Whisky...”

BigChocFrenzy · 30/09/2019 19:51

Random The fight now is about far more than Remain / Leave, more than even just about avoiding No Deal

It's about whether the UK is taken over by the authoritarian right

BestIsWest · 30/09/2019 19:52

Borntobequiet I am appalled at your attitude.
