Is it over yet?

The Tory Party Conference is in full swing in the Manchester Rain, and is proving to be its usual fun.

Johnson is caught up in all sorts of allegations of abuses of power - the non-declaration of his "friendship" to a busty blonde whom was getting a large tax payer grant, and then there the Odey question after his sister said he was under the control of the Hedge Funders.

And thats before we talk about the 40 hospitals, his provocative language and how many times he can say the word surrender.

There is lots of distancing from Lyton Crosby. And accusations that Johnson has gone 'rogue' only listening to the wisdom of Cummings and Symonds.

The Queen apparently has asked for advice as to under what circumstance she can dismiss a PM.

AND NO ONE IS EVEN TALKING ABOUT A DEAL.

DG The millions of Leavers didn't lie and ahould not be punished

Who said anything about punishing anyone ?
I just said Leave should not be rewarded.

Can you catch Tory double speak through a keyboard ?

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 15:14

Denying them any Brexit because a few politicians lied IS punishing them for the crimes of others

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 15:15

But my priority has long been preventing our democracy from sliding into the abyss, not Remain.

borntobequiet · 01/10/2019 15:15

Ha ha Clifton-Brown used to be my MP. Couldn't happen to a nicer person not.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 15:16

Thanks, pretty 🙂
Scottish words would be a useful tactic if these threads ever get censored! 😂

Is "thole" broad Scots / lowland Scots (which I gather has Germanic roots and is also what the DUP laid claim to ?) or from Scottish Gaelic ?

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 15:17

So we have to give them Brexit then ?

Brexit is a rarity in politics. It's a binary thing. You either have it. Or you don't. There's no half way house. Taking that as a starting point, I am struggling to see what you are suggesting.

prettybird · 01/10/2019 15:22

Looking it up, it looks like it has Old Germanic or Norse roots.

It is apparently now obsolete in English Wink

MockersthefeMANist · 01/10/2019 15:27

What part of "High Security" does Clifton-Brown not get?

(I do hope he said, "Do you know who I am?")

DGRossetti · 01/10/2019 15:29

returning to the LibDem/JS position on Corbyn ...

is it possible there's some horse trading going on with LibDems wanting a referendum before any General Election whilst Labour are keen to make it after ?

Hasenstein · 01/10/2019 15:30

It is apparently now obsolete in English

Not if we have anything to do with it!

As an aside, when I was a kid in Yorkshire, my dad used to tell us to "put wood in th'ole" instead of "shut the door".

DGRossetti · 01/10/2019 15:32

John Lewis restructuring.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49890058

remember, if Boris had got his way, we'd be on an election footing now - looking at polling in 13 days.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 01/10/2019 15:34

waves to pretty Grin

Not in Yorkshire it's not - to be thole with something is to be worn out/enduring it/tired.

prettybird · 01/10/2019 15:35

We need to get it into some books Grin

This definition doesn't mention the Old Norse roots which I found on some of the other definitions.

But the Germanic/Norse roots would suggest old Scots/Lallans or Doric rather than Gaelic.

I maintain this is the sensible way to do it (and if they're going to cling onto power until 2022 what else are they gonna fucking do for 2 and a half years?) the problem with labour wanting it after is ... if labour or some kind of labour/ lib/ SNP compromise don't get the seats - that P.V never happens. And the tories crash us out on their new mandate (garnered from a whopping 30% of the vote).

BUT ... I don't think Jo Swinson is horse trading in the hope of a preferential outcome. I think she's being an obstinate dick and piss poor politician.

MrPan · 01/10/2019 15:44

McDonnell now reported to be saying no challenge until mid-October. Timing.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 01/10/2019 15:45

Maybe the 2nd largest party in the HOC should ask the 4th largest party in the HOC to change their leader to someone who will compromise

prettybird · 01/10/2019 15:52

I keep on imagining (in my dreams) that the opposition are planning some sort of cunning shenanigans along the lines of the West Wing episode "A Good Day" where Santos and a group of Democratic senators con the speaker into thinking that they've gone away for the weekend, so that he calls a vote on a contentious topic - at which point they appear and vote Grin

MockersthefeMANist · 01/10/2019 15:57

The Tories did that on several occasions in 1978-79, stomping away loudly, saying, "See you next week," then hiding in their offices before all charging out into the lobbies giggling like a load of kids.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 16:08

DG I'm saying that the lies of the leaders are not the reason to override the millions of voters who chose Leave, still want to Leave and are about half the voters

Not a fair reason to state a blanket NO to any kind of Brexit

There are other reasons - such as the GFA, such as it would be an economic disaster,
but I wouldn't choose the reason that the leaders lied

If the leaders broke laws, then I'm all for punishing them

My priority is to protect our democracy and an essential part of that is to avoid No Deal
The WA, an existing deal which the EU has approved looks the safest way to me

An angry rebellious UK after Revoke would be a nightmare for the EU - much more dangerous than the far less powerful Hungary or Poland

We should sort ourselves out first and only then apply to Rejoin

Home Secretary Priti Patel just told the Conservative Party Conference “they are the party of law & order”. It’s not as if they’ve cut 21,000 Police officers, closed 600 police stations, slashed Police budgets, misled the Queen & illegally suspended Parliament

In opposition ?

MrPan · 01/10/2019 16:12

And closed numerous magistrates courts and has CCs on reduced sittings. All due to austerity.

Law and Order Party. Bollocks.

But which party would wish to be characterised by this. "Strong on crime", rather than 'effective on crime'.
