Is it over yet?

The Tory Party Conference is in full swing in the Manchester Rain, and is proving to be its usual fun.

Johnson is caught up in all sorts of allegations of abuses of power - the non-declaration of his "friendship" to a busty blonde whom was getting a large tax payer grant, and then there the Odey question after his sister said he was under the control of the Hedge Funders.

And thats before we talk about the 40 hospitals, his provocative language and how many times he can say the word surrender.

There is lots of distancing from Lyton Crosby. And accusations that Johnson has gone 'rogue' only listening to the wisdom of Cummings and Symonds.

The Queen apparently has asked for advice as to under what circumstance she can dismiss a PM.

AND NO ONE IS EVEN TALKING ABOUT A DEAL.

I do expect the world's smallest violin for his next bit...

I go for a week in Italy next Monday......and was hoping that the alliance of opposition would do their opposing thing this week. Just,. you know, coz it suits me and my holiday plans.

However it now means I will be on hols with no phone (deliberate) and not having a clue about what happens next week.....
I am hoping/assuming I return and Tories are deposed and some sanity is restored, even just for Christmas....

That groping around carton makes me feel sick. Not funny at all.

IDontBelieveYou · 01/10/2019 11:59

Cartoon*

Mistigri · 01/10/2019 11:59

They went to such lengths to stop the prorogation and what have they done since they've returned?

This is silly. The government dictates parliamentary business.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 01/10/2019 12:02

IDontBelieveYou made me feel sick too. Not funny at all especially to those who are victim of sexual assault.

Poor taste DGR.

MrPan · 01/10/2019 12:05

Eeek! DGR.

Have asked for it to be removed.

Inniu · 01/10/2019 12:06

@usuallydormant

No DUP Westminster constituency but most of Arlene Fosters constituency is in the buffer zone. She is an MLA not an MP

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 01/10/2019 12:09

Grinchly

What is Mr Tom worrying about? He’s got it in the bag!

DGRossetti · 01/10/2019 12:10

Whilst I am sorry to have offended anyone (found that cartoon on Scientists for EU, btw), I can't help but feel to pull it is just letting Boris off the hook, rather than making a point. And I write that well aware of means justified ends ...

let MNHQ decide what to do.

MrPan · 01/10/2019 12:13

Feels like a bit of dislocation...this isn't a science mag. It's MN.
And the apology can be better to be honest. End.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/10/2019 12:14

Completely randomly...Sajid Javid's speech at the conference which was on LBC yesterday keeps coming into my head.(Please don't call him the Saj as it just builds a bizarre affection like condensed expressions such as BoJo and Boris.)

He actually said we are cutting red tape. This old chestnut ...and the sheer hypocrisy. Has our esteemed chancellor actually looked at what is happening around him or even glanced on the legislation.gov.uk website to see the statutory instruments that are being made under the Henry VIII procedures? How dare he say there is a purge of red tape .Its a surge not a purge.

Here a screen shot of some of the 2019 red tape being churned out...it goes on and on......

You could have made your point without being offensive to sexual assault victims.

Apileofballyhoo · 01/10/2019 12:15

If that cartoon makes you feel sick go and look at Feminist chat and women being frowned upon or not believed for speaking out at a political time, rather than continuing to keep silent.

MockersthefeMANist · 01/10/2019 12:18

"Cutting red tape" is just one of those things you say when you're a Tory, like "tougher sentences" and "Bring Back Matron..."

  • we already brought her back five times.
  • Bring her back again!
BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 12:19

Phew
Sky says man who doused himself is in custody, no injuries to anyone

ImNotYourGranny · 01/10/2019 12:20

So Johbnson's new cunning plan is the old plan to replace no border with a border so wide it can be seen from outer space. Yeah, that'll work. Hmm

MockersthefeMANist · 01/10/2019 12:21

Plus it's bound to work because everybody who moves goods across the Irish border is totally honest and will declare everything.

PurbeckStone · 01/10/2019 12:23

Just a lurker who hardly ever posts, so I'm sure my opinion doesn't carry much weight here, but I have been sexually assaulted and don't feel offended by the cartoon at all. I understand why others may be but wonder if 'reporting' everything we feel offended by is really the way to go. I often read things on here (not this thread, but AIBU, for example) that I find hurtful or offensive but much prefer free speech over 'safe spaces' and censorship.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 12:23

About 625,000 Irish people put into a DMZ
What can go wrong ? Confused

Don't worry, this will not happen
BJ knows Ireland & the EU would refuse this, without even considering it.

He's just trying to provoke an angry response, like in his recent goading in the HoC

DGRossetti · 01/10/2019 12:26

About 625,000 Irish people put into a DMZ What can go wrong ?

Just got my BBC History Magazine with a feature piece on the building of the Berlin Wall.

Maybe the universe trying to tell us something.

Ian Hislop is also doing a BBC4 documentary (9.00pm 7/10) about a history of fake news ....

Icantreachthepretzels · 01/10/2019 12:27

I've just emailed Jo Swinson about the importance of supporting anyone who could be caretaker PM - and not doing the tory rebels dirty work for them by refusing JC because they won't have him.

email address is [email protected]

Could be good to flood her inbox with "FFS don't go round imposing red lines" emails.

Grinchly · 01/10/2019 12:27

chaz snort Grin
He is feeling ignored and unappreciated as his place cats have passed without comment. His pride is hurt. He is a sensitive soul, Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 12:29

Current NI SoS has never sounded happy in this Cabinet

He may only be staying on to prevent a Brexiter sociopath taking over, or a total ignoramus like his predecessor

Peter Foster@pmdfoster

The Northern Ireland secretary sounding distinctly tepid about a checks-based solution to the Irish border
#brexit issue

Mark Devenport@markdevenport

@JulianSmithUK tells @BBCgmu
"it's clear to me it's not possible to put anything like a customs facility in Newry Fermanagh or many other locations away from the border".

Ni Secretary says 5 or 10 miles from the border is still an issue

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2019 12:34

Grinchly's MrTom !
