Mystery Just before the last thread closed, you wrote:
Threats to children are not good. Hope whoever made the threat is caught. However, Jo Swinson has not helped herself by saying if there was another leave vote she would ignore it. What sort of politician campaigns on the basis of; "You must agree with my opinion and if you do not I will ignore you"

I think the question you should really be asking yourself - from Australia, or wherever - is "what sort of human being says 'you must agree with my opinion and if you don't I will threaten your child.'"?

twofingerstoEverything · 26/09/2019 13:02

I would like to see malteasergeezers questions answered by any one of the Leavers on here. I notice none has taken the challenge so far.

Seriously, do Leavers just mindlessly cheer on BJ - a racist, misogynist, wannabe thug (remember Darius Guppy?) and all-round nasty excuse for a human being - just because he happens to be on 'their' side? Can't you all see what you're supporting? I know you all want Brexit so, so badly, but do you ever stop for one minute and take a long, critical look at who is representing you? It's one thing to support his pro-Brexit stance, it's quite another to be shouting 'Go Boris!' every time he opens his gob to spout populist bollocks. His deliberately inflammatory rhetoric in the HOC yesterday - especially his allusions to Jo Cox - was disgusting, as were his references to 'surrender bill'. And you are cheering him. Shame on you.

howabout · 26/09/2019 13:18

"Genuine" question. Would you compare a work colleague's intellect to that of your 5 year old in a work setting? Would you even mention your 5 year old? This is what Jo Swinson did yesterday.

If a friend and fellow work colleague were murdered would you use that tragedy to politically point score?

I wouldn't.

"Johnny Mercer MP

To be completely clear my kids, wife and I are threatened regularly, BJ should have been more sensitive on Jo, but that aside the outrage is in my view confected from a political class totally devoid of the communities they claim to represent. Dark times. But we will get through"

Random18 · 26/09/2019 13:30

howabout Jo Swinsons constituency voted Remain.

And I don,t think i would be quoting Johnny Mercer as a voice of reason. Another nasty piece of work.

Paperplain · 26/09/2019 13:52

But labour MPs raised Jo Cox's name first? Why is there no outrage directed at that?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/09/2019 13:56

Parliament only agreed to an indicative referendum.
That is technically correct. But your missing my point that MPs were all telling us they would deliver the result, they told us what WOULD happen if we voted leave. Not one MP told us they would ignore the result, or they would overturn the result. They betrayed us and should all be sacked, that is why they are afraid of an election.

Orangin · 26/09/2019 14:02

Twofingers. Leavers cheer on BJ because he is (possibly) going to get us out of the EU. Similarly Remainers cheer on Bercow because he is (possibly) going to prevent it. Both men are have dubious reputations and are motivated by vanity. But we ignore those things because they are useful to us.
That's life.

DustyDiamond · 26/09/2019 14:09

Parliament only agreed to an indicative referendum

And then Parliament voted to recognise & uphold the result & begin the process of leaving the EU with 498 votes in favour, (114 against)

DustyDiamond · 26/09/2019 14:17

I would like to see malteasergeezers questions answered by any one of the Leavers on here. I notice none has taken the challenge so far.

She directed a tirade of drivel dressed up as 'questions' towards the OP, not anyone else.

Even if the 'questions' were directed at leavers in general I wouldn't bother giving any response as I've no interest in engaging with confected outrage & hyperbole. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Orangin · 26/09/2019 14:32

Exactly, if we wanted to engage with hyperbole we'd hang out with the Westminstenders where it's considered normal to equate a desire to diverge from the European Union with the rise of the Third Reich.

Parker231 · 26/09/2019 14:57

MP’s have rejected a parliamentary recess to allow for the Tory party conference.

bellinisurge · 26/09/2019 15:12

No it isn't @Orangin .

DustyDiamond · 26/09/2019 15:15

Westminstenders where it's considered normal to equate a desire to diverge from the European Union with the rise of the Third Reich.

😂😂😂

I've not bothered to look at those threads for well over 2 years - nothing has changed then 🙄😂

bellinisurge · 26/09/2019 15:17

Again, no it isn't.

DustyDiamond · 26/09/2019 15:18

MP’s have rejected a parliamentary recess to allow for the Tory party conference.

Thank goodness they scheduled so many hours to talk about compromise & cooperation moving forwards!

Really seems to have done the trick!

Orangin · 26/09/2019 15:25

I wonder if BJ is relieved or disappointed? Now he has the perfect excuse to do his 'manifesto' launch on Facebook without being shown up by Tory rebels.

Orangin · 26/09/2019 15:40

We really do need a GE now. At least it's all quite clear now.
Tories - Leave plus Keynesian economics
LibDems - Remain
Labour - second referendum plus proper socialism
I am actually enjoying all the drama in the HoC and the renewed interest in our own democracy. I think the turnout will be high.

Songsofexperience · 26/09/2019 16:04

Tories - Leave plus Keynesian economics

Wrong.Leave + Shock doctrine economics.

Orangin · 26/09/2019 16:10

What is shock doctrine economics? Does it involve investing in schools, police, NHS and infrastructure? Because, like it or not, that's what BJ is promising.

jasjas1973 · 26/09/2019 16:11

A GE offers the only way for a conclusion. It's the only option now

...and when that returns a no overall majority for any party, what then?

Look what happened in 2017? May lost her majority and the country/tory party went from bad to worse!

A GE should happen after the brexit question is resolved via 2nd vote.

In a GE we are choosing a govt for 5 years but the next GE will be a one issue election and the major non eu issues facing this country will be ignored and that makes for bad decision making, whatever the result.

jasjas1973 · 26/09/2019 16:15

Does it involve investing in schools, police, NHS and infrastructure? Because, like it or not, that's what BJ is promising

So what! the country has no money to invest heavily in these things without borrowing and/or rising taxes, most major economies are heading for recession or slow down and we will not be immune

Talking of which he is also promising to cut Corp tax and higher rate taxes - that will cost 10s of billions.... year on year.

Neome · 26/09/2019 16:25

Do your expect the general culture of Britain to change after Brexit?

DustyDiamond · 26/09/2019 16:29

A GE should happen after the brexit question is resolved via 2nd vote.

2nd ref should be deal or no deal only. No Remain option.

However, should anti-brexit proponents force a repeat ref on leave/remain, it will only be valid if equal or greater turnout than 72.21%

And on a valid turnout, should Remain win, it will only be a valid result if greater than 51.89%

Anything less than the above would mean that the Leave vote of 2016 has greater validity.

AuldAlliance · 26/09/2019 16:41

I am actually enjoying all the drama in the HoC
Last night was shameful and will go down in the annals as one of the worst days in Parliamentary history for a long, long time.
BJ is incapable of answering a question cogently or coherently, and is deliberately fanning the flames of hatred.

I was talking to 2 German colleagues today and they were quick to point out that they know only two well where this hyperbolic vitriol leads. They were horrified.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 26/09/2019 16:42

I do wonder why the law stuff is only one way. Perhaps people are waiting to see if we actually leave.
