Whatever the merits of this new WA, it has to be passed by the NI assembly (which isn't even sitting) and anyone can veto it, there isn't the time for any of this.

Also, from a few neutral observers, agreeing to this WA means EU changing their laws to accomodate and then there is the 4 year time limit....again, can't be done in 2 weeks.

His critics are saying BJ has no intention of getting a deal, this POV is backed up by remarks from D.Cummings.
Blame EU/Corbyn, forced by the anti democrats to ask for extension and win the next GE.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 02/10/2019 20:21

Ireland The UK isn't going to be bullied by the UK EU anymore

Oh the Irony of it.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2019 20:33

Bless. Easiest trade in human history/we hold all the cards. How the deluded have fallen.

Where does it say that in the new deal?

jasjas1973 · 02/10/2019 20:36

Absolutely Ghost

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2019 20:38

Given brexiteers are so obsessed with democracy they must be incandescent with rage over the NI assembly being shut down, the DUP calling the shots against the wishes of almost everybody outside their support base.

jasjas1973 · 02/10/2019 20:41

Walking - reported on Radio 4 & BBC news channel.... something to do with the GFA perhaps?

Either way, SF are totally against the proposal.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 02/10/2019 20:43

Ghost... When you say... Brexiter are obsessed with democracy, you make it sound like that's a bad thing?

DustyDiamond · 02/10/2019 20:43

Bless. Easiest trade in human history/we hold all the cards. How the deluded have fallen.

Future trading arrangement (or 'deal') has not been discussed yet though

As Brexiters on these threads said at the time, TM agreeing to EU's insistence on 'sequencing' is what made everything nigh on impossible.

Future trading relationship should have been negotiated in tandem with divorce agreement (which would have made Ireland/NI border less of an issue)

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2019 20:46

Brexiteers have double standards when it comes to democracy.

NI was mentioned pre referendum but shouted down as project fear alongside everything else. Reap what you sow.

BunchMunch · 02/10/2019 20:49

Is it true that a LibDem MP has said they would prefer no deal over a Corbyn led government?

DustyDiamond · 02/10/2019 20:51

Is it true that a LibDem MP has said they would prefer no deal over a Corbyn led government?

Yep!

DustyDiamond · 02/10/2019 20:52

Although can't remember if he's an actual MP or a candidate - think he's a Scottish one?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 02/10/2019 20:56

Maybe I am wrong then but I am watching sky news and they are very explicitly saying Stormont could vote on it 4 years after the transition ends (2025). So that gives them over 5 years to reconvene. But if they weren't sitting then the deal (no change) would just continue until they do.

Stormont do not have to agree this for it to start because it does comply with the GFA.

BunchMunch · 02/10/2019 21:00

Dusty
Crazy times we're living in! I thought I'd imagined it tbh.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 02/10/2019 21:04

Is it true that a LibDem MP has said they would prefer no deal over a Corbyn led government?

It was Jamie Stone, just watched it on Twitter.

BunchMunch · 02/10/2019 21:07

Wow. Corbyn really is seen as toxic.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 02/10/2019 21:09

Corbyn is abominable.

bellinisurge · 02/10/2019 21:13

@Walkingdeadfangirl , can you seriously think the fragile peace in NI should be put under the strain of enduring this crap every four years?

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 02/10/2019 21:19

It's tricky I don't envy government at all

This is the the sort of situation that terrorists are born from.
I'd like to think no one in UK would become one but looking at history, denying people like this (vote not honoured) is sort of breeding ground for big trouble.

bellinisurge · 02/10/2019 21:27

So you and the chairman of the Tory Party (heard him say this on the radio) are threatening civil disorder. I thought we didn't give in to terrorism.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2019 21:28

They should never have promised things they couldn’t deliver.

DustyDiamond · 02/10/2019 21:29

Wow. Corbyn really is seen as toxic.

As much as I want a GE, I hope Jo Swinson sticks to her guns about Corbyn.

I won't be voting for anti-brexit Lib Dems anyway, but I think it will reflect badly on them if they do support him.

Much better to pick a neutral figure with no baggage & no other agenda like Ken Clarke (if they do end up going down the caretaker PM route following VONC)

I cannot stand Corbyn.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 02/10/2019 21:30

I know but that's the eu all over grimes.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 02/10/2019 21:33

can you seriously think the fragile peace in NI should be put under the strain of enduring this crap every four years?

That's a good point. But thinking about what might actually happen... The first vote would be in 6 years (it might force Stormont to reconvene). Enough time to see the initial consequences of Brexit. Time for a GE so the public can voice their opinion. Time for a border poll.

I think the matter would generally be settled after the first vote. It would almost be a second referendum, either the people are convinced following EU rules is a good thing or they would rather leave the EU rules and join the UK. Its probably quite democratic and fair.
