Westministenders: Boris Johnson Broke The Law

ITS OFFICIAL
The Highest Court in the Land has ruled that Boris Johnson has broken the law.

Parliament is Sovereign.

Despite the calls for his resignation it is highly unlikely he will under the current political climate.

It must be stressed that the judgement was UNAMINOUS and went further than most expected, and took the hardest possible line again the government

The power now lies with the Speakers of the Lords and Commons to decide when Parliament reopens.

It also means that all the bills which were ended by proroguation are now back in play.

Expect a full backlash from the hard right attacking the courts are going full on 'enemies of the people'. This will be NASTY

The strength of this ruling does pretty much rule out another proroguation as the courts are liable to throw it out immediately if they try it on again.

Johnson is in New York. He needs to get on a plane very quickly.

A happy PMK.

I had lost hope for democracy these last few weeks.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 24/09/2019 11:49

Wow wow wow and holy wow

Trust me to be at a kids event sans phone when this went down.

Thanks red

Hullygully · 24/09/2019 11:49

happy dance happy dance enjoying the moment

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 11:50

In Germany, folk in my social circle stopped laughing once prorogue happened and started telling me about Germany in the 1930s

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/09/2019 11:50

I think some leavers are confused. This wasn't a ruling about Brexit, it was a ruling that it is unlawful to prorogue parliament for political purposes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/09/2019 11:51

While I was typing that Gina Miller was saying the exact same thing.

LoveGrowsWhere · 24/09/2019 11:51

Of course Boris' out might be to fire Cummings. I guess it all depends on what exactly Cummings has on Boris ?

^^This. Tories won't want to dump another PM & Johnson can't afford to lose any more MPs. Fire an adviser shows action but has little consequence.

"It is not clear to us that any step is needed from the Prime Minister, but if it is, the court is pleased that his counsel have told the court that he will take all necessary steps to comply with the terms of any declaration made by this court" - arf

mydogisthebest · 24/09/2019 11:51

11 judges who I guess are remainers then. I think it's pathetic and I am livid. Even more living seeing that awful Gina woman on tv preaching to us all.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/09/2019 11:52

Lady Hale has firmly put Johnson in the Box of Shame.

Johnson has no shame.

None of the buggers do.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/09/2019 11:52

Does anyone have a link to Lady Hales statement?

Icantreachthepretzels · 24/09/2019 11:52

this is only going to make those who want no deal, even more determined.

No dealers were already determined. But up until half past ten this morning Grin all they had to do was wait for the clock to count down. now they have to start working for it again, trying to find ways to outmanoeuvre the rebel alliance. That's why they're angry and why we have our hilarious new friend on the thread. Because they really don't like having to work don't the no deal lot.

Anyway, I thought the Leave vote was all about bringing back British sovereignty and British Laws for British People?

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 11:53

I think some leavers are confused.

You could start almost any post with that ....

@TheElementsSong

Witches Coven:

A, the Supreme Court when ruling against the government.

B, a gathering of witches.

Witch:

A, a (usually female) person involved in witchcraft and magicks. Possibly derived from the word wit referring to wisdom

B, a derogatory term aimed at women by patriarchal persons who fear the wisdom and power of women who after all have the power to bear children. Creating life is the ultimate power.

bongsuhan · 24/09/2019 11:54

" Are they now conceding that it was about brexit and that the court is therefore right that Boris lied to the queen?"

The court did not say that Boris lied. They stated that they have no knowledge of what was said to the Queen. They also stated that the Government gave no reason - let alone a good reason - that would justify the length of the prorogation. Such a reason could have justified impeding parliament, but as no reason was forthcoming...

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 11:54

11 judges who I guess are remainers then. I think it's pathetic and I am livid. Even more living seeing that awful Gina woman on tv preaching to us all.

@ImNotYourGranny nailed it earlier, so I'm sure @mydogisthebest will be able to explain their reasoning:

Why are leavers so outraged and calling the judges enemies of the people for frustrating the will of 17.4 million? I thought they claim that prorogation was nothing to do with brexit and only about the queen's speech. Are they now conceding that it was about brexit and that the court is therefore right that Boris lied to the queen?

So leavers was it about brexit or was it not about brexit? You can't have it both ways.

Ha ha DGR 😂 . Pmk

TokyoSushi · 24/09/2019 11:55

Twitter says it's likely Parliament will be recalled at 11:30 tomorrow, just in time for, you guessed it - PMQ's!

So if BJ doesn't come back, who does it, Gove?

Also, just say for a second that BJ did resign, who do we think would lead the Conservatives then?

derxa · 24/09/2019 11:55

What ? To break the law (again) ? No. People who voted leave will be even more determined to leave. That's how this will play amongst ordinary people who vote in the general election. Believe me I wish Brexit could be cancelled and it may yet be. However...

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 11:55

"11 judges who I guess are remainers then."

No, just applying the law

Would you be happy after the GE if Corbyn becomes PM of a minority government and then prorogues while he nationalises everything up to the Royal Corgis ?
