Westministenders: Boris Johnson Broke The Law

ITS OFFICIAL
The Highest Court in the Land has ruled that Boris Johnson has broken the law.

Parliament is Sovereign.

Despite the calls for his resignation it is highly unlikely he will under the current political climate.

It must be stressed that the judgement was UNAMINOUS and went further than most expected, and took the hardest possible line again the government

The power now lies with the Speakers of the Lords and Commons to decide when Parliament reopens.

It also means that all the bills which were ended by proroguation are now back in play.

Expect a full backlash from the hard right attacking the courts are going full on 'enemies of the people'. This will be NASTY

The strength of this ruling does pretty much rule out another proroguation as the courts are liable to throw it out immediately if they try it on again.

Johnson is in New York. He needs to get on a plane very quickly.

to rephrase a poster earlier:

Brexiters: We want Parliamentary sovereignty.
Supreme Court: OK then.
Brexiters: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 24/09/2019 18:58

I’ve just thought of a nightmare scenario.

Bojo resigns and is replaced by Mogg😭

DeRigueurMortis · 24/09/2019 18:59

Boris Johnson did not break the law, apart from the one Hale has just made up

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It's like an episode of Scooby Doo..."and we would have got away with it apart from those meddling judges"....

Seriously - how ridiculous.....and how embarrassing to have actually typed this....

lonelyplanetmum · 24/09/2019 18:59

Eleven judges just tried to over-rule the Sovereign, it is an outrage.????

One unelected leader did overrule our sovereign Parliament. There is your outrage.

placemats · 24/09/2019 19:00

There are rumours afloat that Mogg is about to jump ship.

Just rumours.

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 19:00

not It was a joke, but you are obviously not minded to understand humour.
The bottom line is this:

The vote for Brexit, against the wishes of the Establishment, was a peaceful revolution. The Establishment is now doing everything it possibly can to overturn it.

JF Kennedy warned them what the likely consequence will be:

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable."

If they succeed, it won't end well. It really won't and on that note I am joining my friends for a stress relieving glass of wine.

Good luck my friends, for we will all need it in the coming weeks.

MockersthefeMANist · 24/09/2019 19:00

The People are Sovereign, and they express that sovereignty via their elected representatives in Parliament.

tobee · 24/09/2019 19:02

Suspect a few baristas who think they're barristers.

Mockers that made me laugh out loud.

prettybird · 24/09/2019 19:03

I know we're not allowed to troll hunt but are there the same rules against bot hunting Wink

BestIsWest · 24/09/2019 19:03

Crikey, PMK and almost at end of the thread. What a day.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 19:05

The Queen's approval of prorogue is a rubber stamp

She does not make these decisions herself, but does what the Privy Council recommends

  • in this case, the advice was reportedly conveyed by JRM, who had several months ago recommended using prorogue to shut down the opposition

Much as in the Queen's Speech, where she just reads out what the govt write for her to say
She refers in the QS to "my govt" but it really doesn't mean that they or the policies are her personal choice

The only case where she might refuse a prorogue request is if BJ tries it again after the QS, as threatened
That's only because she would suspect it would be found illegal again

However, she might also prefer to avoid getting into a political storm, hence approve it and let the judges take the flak again

MockersthefeMANist · 24/09/2019 19:05

JFK: Now there's a statesman who could out-shag Boris and Trump in a tag-team.

I believe JFK once said: "Budge up Bobby, It's my turn with Marylin."

Grass said.

If you are a real lawyer then, explain the significance of R below?

R (Miller) v Prime Minister, Cherry & Ors v Advocate General for Scotland [2019] UKSC 4

"they have been instructed to exit the EU,"

Theresa May had a deal to leave the EU back in March as per the terms of the referendum, but Leave supporting MPs voted against it.

Just looking at the number of posts already on this thread, I've just been to take a picture of the boys in preparation for the next thread! Grin

I think you can buy bot-jam in Ann Summers.

(But I wouldn't recommend it.)

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/09/2019 19:11

I agree with others that I can’t see Cox remaining in post very long.

What's with all the fake lawyers on here? It's just weird.

It’s a Judge Flounce revival, on steroids. Strange day, I found myself agreeing with Corbyn at times to make it stranger.

MockersthefeMANist · 24/09/2019 19:13

Parliament returns tomorrow and will be demanding the unredacted Yellowhammer and the rest of the aviary.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 24/09/2019 19:13

Someone ate all my Snickers. Had to retrieve an emergency bar from the Brexit boxes.

Need a sweet treat whilst watching C4 news hiding in the bedroom as DH sick of news.

Whatever will happen next? Watching history in the making. BorisTheSpider stuck in his own bloody web.

AutumnCrow · 24/09/2019 19:15

I think Baldrick can spell 'L-A-W' and make a special frothy coffee, Mockers
