From Flamingos to Yellowhammer and Black Swans.

The Tory Remainer is now a Dodo. Instead the party in inhabited by disaster capitalist Vultures. Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, has been labelled by the right wing press as a Chicken. The SNP would very much like Boris Johnson to be a Jailbird. The LDs are keen to sing like Canaries about the contents of BlackSwan. The Br

And the Tower of London is starting to get very jumpy about the whereabouts and location of its Ravens.

I would not, however, advise eating urban wild pigeons if things get desperate, from what I know of their health.

Yes Mship I like that too.

Peregrina · 15/09/2019 08:48

and just imagine the fury in the country ......

This could go either way; the S Yorks people were just as annoyed that Johnson wasn't sorting out his own mess, and not convinced about austerity being over. This is where Labour primarily need some smart campaigning.....

cherin · 15/09/2019 08:50

mship I like the prediction, only I suspect that at the following GE we might see the brexit party gaining even more than the tories. Or not?
I would like the 2 years to be time to come up with a proper plan AND a decent WA (a new one) which includes CU and SM or the softest brexit ever. Keeping in mind that in 2 years time Trump might not be at the White House anymore....

wheresmymojo · 15/09/2019 08:55

Apologies if this has already been posted - looks like there is a loophole in Benn Act after all...

waitingfortax.com/2019/09/15/the-flaw-in-the-benn-act/

TheMShip · 15/09/2019 08:58

Prediction thread!

chomalungma · 15/09/2019 09:06

The bloke from next door with a bucket will do in the absence of a fire officer

This. Or your entire house, contents and family and life is threatened by a truck hurtling towards it. Does it matter who manages to stop the truck...unless it gets stopped.

I fear that the Lib Dems would spend ages arguing about who gets to be the driver.

The Conservatives are just going to keep hurtling towards it, hoping that someone will back down ( I am trying to think of an anology for that)

Labour will stop the truck,,,and then let the people decide what they want to do.

Ellie56 · 15/09/2019 09:17

The loophole in the Benn Act is worrying. And Johnson is planning on poroguing parliament again? We are living under a dictatorship. Angry

Peregrina · 15/09/2019 09:22

And Johnson is planning on poroguing parliament again? We are living under a dictatorship.

I would hope that the Queen doesn't fall for it this time. Or let's pray that the Supreme Court ruling sides with the Scottish court ruling.

chomalungma · 15/09/2019 09:25

If we have a Queen's speech, then I can't imagine what excuse he could give for another proroguation.

Peregrina · 15/09/2019 09:26

Meanwhile - comments on Cameron's book:
Johnson is a liar

Johnson backed Leave to help career with some choice quotes about Gove.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 15/09/2019 09:42

Babooshka It wasn't just because it was an SNP amendment

Apart from them, there is almost NO support to just Revoke, without even a PV

and just imagine the fury in the country .....

Bigchoc I understand there’s no majority for Revoke but there’s also no majority for No Deal. People will be furious either way. I still maintain that given there’s no majority for either of the alternatives to a deal the least irresponsible course of action is to support the option that protects the NHS and doesn’t kill people or drive the economy off a cliff.

Ellie56 · 15/09/2019 09:44

"Johnson is a liar. "

Wow such revelations! Can there really be anybody who doesn't already know this? Hmm

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 15/09/2019 09:47

In other not news, there's a whole swathe of people who don't care that he's a liar. Until they lie about something that directly affects them, then it's shock. Idiots. I include Cameron in that too, not that he needed any help to earn that from me Grin

Hope I'm not linked in with 'Labour operatives slurring Sam Gyimah'.

I'm Labour voter but I'm no operative. The only reason I disclose my leanings is because I don't want anyone thinking I'm trying to do any 'poli-trolling' by stealth.

I add in stuff about Labour from a sense of 'adding to the record', partly because I do see this thread as a kind of 'historical record' & partly because reading & writing here helps keep my sanity, frankly.

What I know about Sam Gyimah could be written on a postage stamp, so I'm learning along with others.

Peregrina · 15/09/2019 09:56

Revoke could easily be the right answer spun in the correct way.

Yes, and this is where Labour, still the largest Opposition party has to be smart. They need slogans like:

Vote Tory - Leave the EU for more Austerity or Vote Labour for a fair Brexit Deal.

Tory Leave will smash the NHS.

ClashCityRocker · 15/09/2019 10:00

Jo Swinson on Andrew Marr.

She's delusional. It's a shame they're the revoke party...

chomalungma · 15/09/2019 10:04

I wasn't impressed with Jo Swinson. Priti Patel wound me up. One hell of an Andrew Marr show.

I can just see the Lib Dems leading us to a No Deal by accident.

chomalungma · 15/09/2019 10:05

Vote Tory - Leave the EU for more Austerity

Remember 'Labour isn't working'.

They have plenty of ammunition to target the Tories - and people won't forget the damage the Tories have done with austerity.

Myriade · 15/09/2019 10:07

Revoke could easily be the right answer spun in the correct way.

I disagree. I have yet to see any politician here who actually defended the EU. All the talk has been about how hard it would be if the U.K. isn’t in it. Not about how amazing it would be to be part of it. Or that they have this fantastic European project they want to share. Being part of the EU is an ‘away reaction’ - to avoid something- not a forward action -to be aiming at something, to be reaching out towards.
As long as politicians and the public as a whole don’t actually deeply WANT to be part of the EU, to build it and create something, then there is no point for the U.K. to be part of it.

I really dont think there is a strong will to be part of the EU in the population. At least not in the sense I have described above. Nor is there a will for No Deal.
Proposing to Revoke and then have a talk about what will happen etc.... is only going to prolong the whole thing. And will be very detrimental for the EU. Having a state member with MEP constantly trying to ambush them, a government that will put pressure to get x and y ‘because they now have more power as they are fully back in the EU’ etc.... is not a future I would be looking forward to.

ClashCityRocker · 15/09/2019 10:15

The trouble is, all the biggest impact campaign posters and slogans seem to have come from Vote Leave or the conservatives.

Yes, they can be easily debunked and don't stand up to any scrutiny, but they're simple, put an idea across well etc.

Labour, lib dems and to a lesser extent the remain campaign all ran things that looked like they had been designed by a middle of the road Gcse media studies student.

Songsofexperience · 15/09/2019 10:15

Keeping in mind that in 2 years time Trump might not be at the White House anymore....

I think this is the key here.
We know there is an alliance between the ERG, Farage and the US far right. Should the Democrats win next elections, the whole point of no deal (And of brexit itself) will disappear. Much better for the Eurosceptics to get back in and undermine the EU from within until their next big break.
They know it. That's why it's do or die. A two year extension kills that plan stone dead. So does any deal that implements a transition period.
Geopolitically, i think unless the UK is openly aligned with the US (ie. in its direct sphere of influence) we've only ever really been useful to them as the ally from within.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/09/2019 10:17

Where are the rumours about an extended prorogation coming from? I've tried fact checking but haven't found anything convincing.

Has Johnson denied it - because if so then it's likely to happen.

Surely even those disinterested in politics would then swarm the streets?

Songsofexperience · 15/09/2019 10:22

Surely even those disinterested in politics would then swarm the streets?

There is a march already planned on the 19th October. Could get big.

Ohflippineck · 15/09/2019 10:26

“And Johnson is planning on poroguing parliament again? We are living under a dictatorship”.

Why isn’t this being widely reported? I heard it as o e throw away line on Broadcasting House. Wasn’t even sure I’d heard what I heard.
It’s terrifying, the depths this Government will stoop to. Led by a man who talks in terms of King of the World and now, FFS, The Hulk. What is this? How the hell did we get to where we are in the blink of an eye? We were a relatively well functioning, relatively successful nation less than 5 years ago. Now we’re imploding, lunatics have taken over the asylum, led by ideologue incompetents like Patel and Raab, and people are just accepting it, shambling zombie-like towards an entirely preventable disaster.
Deep despair doesn’t even begin to cover it.
